Was Houston out of Challenges, or are no challenges allowed under two minutes?

I don't really know what happened there I was doing something else at the same time so I missed the discussion. But the announcers were agreeing it appeared to be a bad spot they didn't get the forward progress

Funny enough I've been seeing people throw Kingsbury under the bus for CW this year, lol.

I think the thing is Kyler will determine whether we draft Caleb or Maye. If he wins enough games then we'll be drafting an OL or maybe trading down again.

If not then they'll draft a QB. Its on Kyler to shown he's not been "broken" by the Kliff era. Caleb and Maye would have fresh starts.
This issues with Williams and coaching began to surface last year. I think Riley actually brought Kliff in to try and be a barrier between Williams and Riley.

I was busy watching Caleb Williams lay another egg against a ranked team who have a lot less talent.

Less talent on offense yes, Utah probably has the best defense in the Pac 12. 2nd best scoring defense, just below UCLA, and UCLA has had this incredible run this year where virtually every team they play is either playing their backup or 3rd string QB. Good defense but misleading on luck of playing against backup QB(including against Utah).

Utah has Luther Elliss' son Jonah he's intriguing. In the end I think he doesn't go very high because he's only 6"2 and people see him as a pass rusher more than LB and about 245 at that height he might be close to maxed out, but he can REALLY get after the QB. He was the reason Utah won, they could not block him without doubling or tripling him and that limited USC's ability to take advantage of their WR talent.

to take the thread in a really different direction for a bit:

any Iowa fans here?

tell me about Cooper DeJean --

a big CB -- 6-1, 205. Productive with 7 picks. the Big 10s top punt returner as well.

PFF has him 11th overall

and possibly the first white CB in the NFL since Jason Sehorn

There was a white CB in this years draft. Riley Moss, also from Iowa if I recall. Was drafted by the Broncos and is still there but only played ST's so far.

For the first time I watched all of NCs offensive snaps. I guess if I'm being perfectly fair, it appears to have been an outlier game for Maye.

It's still pretty alarming to hear people say the Cardinals should draft him with the #1 pick.
I don't see him as a #1 pick type QB

He does have the arm and the poise in the pocket

But many of his throws were behind the receiver last night and caused #8 to drop them

Of course if #8 had better hands Maye's completion rate would have been higher

He has the tools but not ready to step into the NFL without some work

For the record I really like Cooper DeJean I think I mentioned him in this thread a few weeks ago.

It is interesting that he said Iowa was the only major school that recruited him that promised him he would be able to play CB in college. He's not from Iowa he's from South Dakota and said almost everyone that recruited him either wanted him to play safety, or WR, Iowa was the only big time school that didn't discuss moving him to another position.

I don't know how high you pick him depends on his combine, 40 time etc but he's a very good player. his punt return yesterday was insane, 4 guys had him pinned to the sideline and he got through and scored. They called it back because the refs ruled when he used his left hand to wave his teammates away from the punt, that constituted a fair catch signal.

I think he's projected as a 1st rounder not totally sure, he's a player that's for sure. Just has a knack as a punt returner, and he's really good at CB too.

First bolded - Right, the same KK who coached Mahomes to "very good" status at TT, haha. Makes sense.

2nd bolded, agree. And some people bag on Murray about his "heart" but I think you and I know the kid is a fiery competitor that will almost certainly will himself to greatness in the NFL. I could be wrong, but I think Murray is one of those people that needs to be great at his work. I mean really, really needs it. It's part of his self-validation.

So maybe it will take some post Kliff/Keim rehab and therapy, but K1 will eventually get back to being great.

Hope you are otherwise well my friend! BV to Norman looking like a pretty good deal these days! haha.

How am I supposed to get excited about this kid who, at least when I watch him, completes around 50% of his passes? He looks like he's out of central casting. But I ain't feeling it. Fools gold IMO.
Jake Lockerish the last couple of games.

Like all young QBs. He needs to go to the right situation.

Unless him and to a lesser extent Caleb are playing 4D chess to go to the Vikings.

Fair or not lot of people blame him for Mahomes sloppiness at Tech and even Kyler (well outside of ASFN) on Kliff.

As far as Kyler it really is on how well he vibes with Petzing schematically. This is a big shift for the 1st time in his entire football career. The potential is outstanding cause he'll finally get NFL forward thinking.....but there is the downside of him just being a one system QB. We'll find out soon enough.

With less than two minutes (about) and Houston went for it on 4th down. Had to get close to the nine and IMO the ball carrier reached the nine, but the ball was placed just inside the ten. Both announcers said it was a bad call but neither mentioned a Challenge. Houston had one T/O remaining, but I have no idea if they were out of T/O's. Should have been a first and goal from about the nine.

Utah is not much less talented than USC. I know they are easy to overlook but that program is a legit powerhouse. Since 2014 they have nine or more wins every season except for one 7 win season. Now, Virginia, that is a program almost ASU level of talent poor.

To me it looked like the ball almost reached the 8. The spot was over a yard off.

Blaming the losses on either Caleb or Drake is extremely tone deaf. Thought this was actually one of Caleb’s better games. UNC had over 400 yards of offense and lost. Come on guys. Jake Locker ? Troll job with that dude be.

Both deserve a lot of blame and Locker may be too generous in this case.
