I am not very familiar with this guy but I have coached some football......accuracy very much can be fixed....lower level coaches fix it all the time...

this is not a guy who has played QB for 15+ years......accuracy, game speed, reads, progressions,...they all take time to get the hang of......which is why the guy is showing inconsistencies ...he is getting it, but it takes time..... a big issue for me, is the dude needs to learn to take a lil off of it...a little guy like Brown....do a bubble screen...a 60MPH fastball may knock him out of bounds.

will be interesting to see if the light comes on.

For me it's not hate it's that I sort of feel like Arians threw the kid a bone here. You played at Va Tech, good athlete, no QB here I really like so I'm taking you.

People keep saying we took Arians' type players, Thomas is NOT an Arians type QB.

Wait what?

Logan Thomas is an Arians type QB. Tall, big, with a cannon arm. If anything thats ALL Logan Thomas is. When people say Arians type QB (and Lindley, Palmer, and Stanton all fit that same mold) thats whay they are talking about.

See below chart in link to further the point:

http://espn.go.com/blog/arizona-car.../what-the-bruce-arians-quarterback-looks-like

“Oh, I loved him,” Arians said in September after Glennon was named the starter against Arizona in Week 4. “Big, strong arm. Big, strong guy. Knew his older brother and good family, good football family. Tough, good leader.”

The whole alma mater doing a favor commentary is complete and utter crap and really a simplistic opnion on what is a billion dollar business with heads on the line for each move. Being a VT alum means he may know him better because of that tie, but seriosly ignorant if any poster on this board thinks THATS the reason he got drafted.

Can we all just assume BA know more then we do about the kid. And also that he gets a 4th rd pick is NOT that big of a risk. Will anyone besides k9 be crying if Earl Watford never starts a game for the Cardinals? Probably not because most people get you are going to miss more then you hit in the draft when you look 3 years later. Those are the facts Jack.

That's not a fair bet. Manziel was a 1st round pick & Thomas is a wild card 4th rounder. Not exactly comparing apples to apples. If Manziel bombs, that will be far more devastating to the Browns than if Thomas bombs. I love Manziel, but Arians doesn't covet his style. Not now, not ever. Every once in awhile you swing for the fences with a 4th round pick. I believe that's what the Cardinals did here. I can't say how Thomas will develop, but I have no problem with the pick. He's not just a big buffoon like Skelton or DA. He's a freakish athlete, that adds a running dimension that the Cardinals need at times.

Good post PA.

Problem is I wasn't running my mouth that Thomas would probably end up the better NFL QB. He always goes on the attack with me anyways, so I expected as much. ;)

I wasn't the one running my mouth that this was a sure fire bust, worst pick ever, & the next coming of DA/Skelton when you actually don't know. BTW, attack is a bit strong here. More like calling you out when you are over the top on a subject. ;)

Arians likes POCKET QB's, Thomas isn't one, or hasn't been one yet.

Luck ran some at Indy under Arians but Arians was very clear running is a last resort for him I want him to make plays from the pocket.

He's got the size and the arm, but he's not very good in the pocket.

I would say Logan Thomas is as much a "pocket passer" as Big Ben. Would you agree?

Thomas runs alot but really do does Luck (who led rookies in rushing as a QB in 2012) and Big Ben.

Mike Mayock: "I watched 25 of his tapes. Two were outstanding and 23 were terrible."

If he played at Georgia Tech instead of Virginia Tech, would B.A. have wanted him?

Mike Mayock: The first time I saw this kid play it was a bowl game and I thought he could be the first overall pick in two years.

(and I think he said 23 were bad, not terrible, don't recall).

Just context. Sure, the hokie connection helps but that means that he's had inside knowledge on the kid for a long time, and has said as much.

LT is raw as hell, but a physical beast with a cannon and beatiful throwing motion. Apparently super smart, can absorb the info and that's not going to be a problem.

Is he fixable? We will see, but Mayock also said somebody is gonna want to try to put humpty dumpty together again because the measurables and potential is completely off the charts. If BA and Moore want to do it, with a 4th round pick, in a time when they have a starting quality QB for the next two years, then by all means swing for the fences.

Thomas runs alot but really do does Luck (who led rookies in rushing as a QB in 2012) and Big Ben.

Ben extends plays, Thomas runs. He averaged 160 rushes in his 3 years as a starter, that's more than 10 runs a game. And not a very high average per run either.

Ben is certainly unorthodox but he can sit in the pocket and make plays, I really don't see that as something Thomas does well. He's one of those guys if the first guy isn't open he just isn't very good. it's interesting because the 2 most common things young mobile QB's do, are his biggest weaknesses(aside from accuracy), hold the ball too long, and forget about the progressions and look to run.

Most of his highlights are identical, WR running 5 yards behind the defense catches the long bomb, or him running up the middle.

He's a great athlete but I'll be very surprised if Arians has much success with him. The argument that he's just raw is hard to support because he was better as a soph than as a junior or senior. That is the more coaching he got, the more confused he seemed to get. Some of that was losing his running back Wilson of course, but in my mind it was the more of the system they asked him to take on, the worse he got.

It's odd but if the Cards had picked him at the same point and said we are going to convert him to a TE I think I'd love the pick.

There are some "experts" who think he could be a steal so I hope they're right.

.

Is this counting sacks as runs? How about sacks he turned into 1 yard gains with his athleticism?

I noticed that Steve Keim didn't use his usual line on Thomas, "he's an ascending player." You could understand one bad year. I mean Calais Campbell played more poorly his senior year than his junior year. But two consecutive years of declining production is troubling.

It does make sense to draft him with plenty time to evaluate him as a quarterback while Carson Palmer still has a couple of years left. If he doesn't work out, convert him to tight end and draft another QB in a year or two. It's not like a fourth round pick is fatal. Now a second round pick and a star cornerback maybe, but a fourth round pick...not really.

Even given the fact that the talent surrounding him was vastly superior his sophomore year?

What would Tom Brady look like throwing for the Jags?

how about plays he turned into sacks or almost sacks because he holds the ball too long?

They showed that with Manziel in one clip if you saw too, Thomas is not the only one. But Thomas one of the big criticisms on him is the first guy isn't open and he doesn't look at the progression so even though the next guy is open, the ball doesn't come out. Then he runs around and maybe turns a sack into a 1 yard gain.

the stuff with Manziel BTW was pretty enlightening, over and over on plays even where he ran for a TD, you can see open receivers that he didn't make the throw to. That's the stuff NFL teams don't like because they know that running for a TD stuff is less sustainable in the NFL you get hurt.

A friend of mine is a big UNC fan, he said the word was that once teams had a book on Thomas he was far less effective. Take away the run lane and make him throw the ball, take away the deep ball and then wait for him to throw into coverage.

My thinking as well nothing ventured... nothing gained. Also didn't SK say that he would like to draft a QB every year?

Of course he doesn't see the field well or have a complete grasp of progression. I am also not surprised that he doesn't anticipate any relies to much on arm strength.

He isn't a finished product. He isn't ready to play.

He is a project and one probably worth undertaking.

I am excited about the potential of this pick even though it will be 2 years probably (if at all) before we see the results.

Well they didn't last year Mike ;) I still would've taken a more proven passer in McCarron

blegh. if it was a choice between a guy with huge upside or McCarron, give me the risk any day of the week.
