"Green Bay Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk didn't play a single defensive snap in last Sunday's 27-20 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, and you wouldn't expect that to go over well. Hawk, sidelined because the Packers played the entire game in their nickel and dime packages, told Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that "I'm sick of it, but who wouldn't be?"

Hawk is technically a starter in the Packers' 3-4 base scheme, but coordinator Dom Capers didn't use that package at all in Philadelphia. It's unclear how Capers will deploy personnel moving forward, but Hawk added: "What I'm playing in now, the package I'm in, is not my football destiny. It's not to be a part-time guy. As of today, that's how it goes. I'll stick with it and do my thing."

Hawk would be open to a trade, agent Mike McCartney told Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. McCartney: "A.J. is a pro's pro and wants to do his part to help the team win, and his first priority is to be the best Packer he can. But if some team called and wanted him to play on all three downs, I think he'd be excited about that."

Hawk was reported to have had an outstanding training camp, but the Packers emerged from the preseason with Brandon Chillar taking his place in the nickel. I can't say I disagree with that decision. Chillar seems pretty good in coverage. And I would be surprised if Hawk were traded. Beyond this year, however, you would have to assume his days with the Packers are numbered if the defensive coordinator can find no suitable role at any part of a game, no matter what the defensive calls are. "

Isn't he a WILB in a 3-4? That's the one place we DON'T need a LB.

...I could be wrong...

A.J. Hawk is a scrub. Give me a break, guys. You saw him twice in two weeks last season. Did he make any plays? At all? Brandon Chillar took his job.

Aside from Dansby, did any LBs from either side of the ball make any plays in that game? there were 100 points scored, fer pete's sake.

Though not a world-beater by any means, Hawk is a SILB and an improvement over Lenon. If the price is right (4th round or higher) I'd be all over it.

I wouldn't go so far as to say he's a scrub, but I'm glad someone else sees that he isn't the next Urlacher.

Is he a SILB? I thought he was a smaller OLB in a 4-3...did he put on some lbs and move inside?

...again, i could just be mistaken...

Hawk was really good his rookie year 2006. Must be a reason for not playing him now. He's probably near the end of his contract (do not know though). The Pack would undoubtedly want too much for him (i.e., #5 pick overall - six picks before Lienart). Unless it's a steal deal, probably won't happen!

Hawk is definitely the SILB. The WILB is still on the field in nickel (and most) dime situations. Barnett plays next to him and is like 235, whereas Hawk is right around 250.

I never understood the lovefest for Hawk coming out of OSU. Sure you will have great numbers when you play crap teams every week.

Hawk could do a job for us but i think the price to pay for him would be too high. I reckon the packers would want at least a 4th for him and i think even that is a questionable price for him. I was impressed by Lenon and his impressive reads on the plays. He was consistently active in most plays up the middle and had a couple of impressive tackles. Id be inclined to stick with him for now until Hayes is a back and look to draft a SILB in next years draft.

I would rather have Lenon than Hawk. Hawk is much better suited for playing in a 4-3 and has not been impressive since the packers switched to a 3-4 scheme. He's not good at getting off blocks to make plays, he needs 4 DL eating up the blocks for him to put up numbers like he did early in his career.

If it wasn't for that premise, I would never be able to say that I was a "ladies man" back in high school.

If I saw Hawk in the market I would pick him up, spin him around, after a good look I would be semi-impressed. Then I would gawk at the price tag on the bottom of his shoe and simply put him back on the shelf. We got a good D.

Give them a 3rd rounder. At least this way the Cards would get a player who can actually play.

I love how the perception of Lenon has changed on this board. I actually agree with it. If the price was right, I would just want him in the rotation. Who the hell knows when Hayes is coming back, or if he is coming back anyways.

From all that I've read and heard from GB fans is that AJ Hawk is average at best.

edit: doesn't mean I don't want him, but I won't get my hopes up if he doesn't impress.

Hawk was a top 5 pick whom the Packers thought would be an impact player. That never happened and he has been marginal over the past few seasons.
He didn't play last Sunday against the Eagles.
His contract balloons next year and anyone going after him would want to have it reworked.
