You are so right. My wife's family always votes for the Filipino chick on the show. First it was Trias. When Trias was the worst one left I asked my mother-in-law what she thought and she basically said "she wasn't good, but I voted for her 10 times" and laughed. The thing is you have to factor in VoteForTheWorst.com and the Filipino vote if the last long enough.

The Filipinos love karaoke and that is why you always see so many Filipino performers popping up as lounge/cruise ship singers. Many have great voices but they just lack charisma and stage presence

Malubay has a great voice but she has a karaoke vibe IMO. Plus she bores me to death with her song choices. Mainly because I don't think she can sing anything but slow songs.

yes one night in Australia I was treated to 2 hours of karaoke with my girlfriends family. They couldn't get me to sing. They have pinoy idol in the Philippines and apparently Trias is making a fair living touring the Philippines
and playing shows in Asia and Filipino shows in the US.

I guess my girlfriend saw something today speculating that Malubay had a nose job? I don't know if she did or not she seems awfully young to have done that but who knows.

So is anybody going to take on Revolution, Helter Skelter or Live and Let Die?

I've never been a big Beatle/McCartney fan but those would be 3 songs I'd like to hear. I think Helter Skelter is unlikely I just can't see Idol wanting to be even loosely connected to Manson, but I think there are a couple of people there who have the right style for any of those 3?

I have a feeling that Cook might sing Guns 'n Roses version of "Live and Let Die".

On a side note with regards to the song:

In 1984, McCartney asked Weird Al Yankovic when he was going to parody one of his songs. A couple of years later, Yankovic asked for permission to put his "Live and Let Die" parody "Chicken Pot Pie" on an album (as a courtesy; legally he did not need permission). McCartney denied the use because he is a vegetarian and didn't want to promote the eating of animal flesh. Fellow vegetarian Yankovic said he respected the decision

Manson's back in the news. Possibly more dead bodies found at the ranch. Not a good time to sing that song.

Yep that wasn't out when I posted it but as soon as I saw that story I thought that nixes anybody singing Helter Skelter on AI.

Somehow I just can't see anybody putting on the "Charlie Don't Surf" tshirt Axl wore in the Estranged video and performing Helter Skelter.

I'm up to where Carly is next. So far, not so good.

I actually liked Pariah's version of Day in the Life, but the judges hated it. I thought it was ballsy as hell to try that song in a minute 40, but he did a decent job.

I like David Archuletta and all, but man they are riding him hard. That was a very good job on Road, which I love, but by no means was it as brilliant as they claimed.

Seems like a meh night so far.

This show is becoming unwatchable for me. The talent is thin. I can find 12 more talented singers by visiting choice indie sites.

Tough for me, first off I'm the rare person who's NOT a big fan of the Beatles. I don't dislike them I've just never really liked them. so 2 weeks in a row of people doing Beatles songs is not a dream for me in the first place. Throw in how bad many were last night and it was not fun to watch.

I know it's marketing and stuff but I've never liked the format in the first place where they force them to sing certain types of songs from eras, certain singers etc.

that's got absolutely nothing to do with the way the music industry works nobody tells Mariah carey hey let's do a 80's cover album so I never get why they make it so on AI? I think they claim it's so they can see who's got the broadest range as a singer but again that's irrelevant, they're going to package them up and produce them a certain way anyways so I don't see the point. It's all so they can bring in marketing angles for performers etc.

She has hair? I thought the new and improved plunginf neckline was what made her damned hot.

My sentiments exactly.

I remarked that somebody is clamoring for votes to stay on until the final 8.

The next batch of eliminations in my guestimation are as follows:

Kristy
Sayesha
Chikezie
Ramiele
Johns
Rocker guy
Arizona girl
Castro
Irish girl
Archuleta

The show is already pushing a Irish girl vs hole in the throat kid finale.

Cook is too much of an egotistical a-hole to continue on deep. But he will be the most successful of the group a la Daughtry.

However, the Arizona girl's "whoo hoo" could be her Howard Dean moment. That was hilarious.

Hmmm. I perceive David Cook to be introverted, not at all egotistical. Probably relate to him more than anyone on the show.

I don't know about introverted, but I don't think he's egotistical.

I agree with Simon that he sometimes comes off as smug during his performances, but I think it's more because of a wierd combination of comfort on stage and nervousness.

He is the only person currently on the show that I simply cannot stand. I have no reason, it is just an instant repulsion for the guy (I hate when that happens too).

Well, I can't stand his cockatoo haircut. I couldn't remember his name for the first few shows in which he was a regular, so I just referred to him as "Parrot Head." My wife knew who I was talking about without asking. I didn't like him.

He's grown on me since then.

Oh, and BTW, if Jason Castro wants to get very far in this thing, he'd better bring his guitar with him on stage for EVERY performance. He was so friggin' uncomfortable up there thatI was uncomfortable watching him.

qft

that goes for Brooke as well...without an instrument, both of them have no clue what to do with themselves.

My gf was a year ahead of him in high school. She didn't know him really well but she said he was kind of a quiet, nice guy.

Probably Kristy Lee. Worst "almost good" voice I've ever heard. It's so close to being good, but still bad, that it's really just irritating.
