Yeah, I like Brooke because she represents my home town, but she is getting weaker by the round. Her song (Hero) was going well until she got near the end, then starting rushing things and sounded really nervous.

Carly was off key it seemed her entire performance, so we'll see how it shakes out.

Cook missed a lot of notes and went flat on the big note, but it didn't really matter. Everyone was pretty dazzled by the arrangement. Archuleta was dang near perfect but underwhelming. Syesha gave what I thought was the best singing performance, but again, I think people are tired of the balladeers. Syesha probably would've given Kelly Clarkson a run for her money on the first show. Idol tastes are becoming more challenged by the same ol, same ol.

Don't care what anyone says, don't care if others performed worse, but Kristie Lee Cook is about 4 weeks past her due date. In the name of Sanjaya, this woman needs to go. Now. Please spare me from the Patsy Cline version of Burt Bacharach. I can't take it or her tendency to go nasally sharp on every big note in her upper range.

Sayesha was really good last night. For the first time I thought maybe she could crack the top-3.

Cook is going to be friggin' big, win or lose. And, I think his emotion last night erased some of the criticism I've heard about being too full of himself. At this point, I think he's got to be hoping he gets voted out before the cut-off of being contractually tied to an AI recording contract.

Couple of things I didn't know about Mariah Carey (well, I don't know ANYTHING about her, so this is really just the tip of the iceberg):

1. She's a songwriter. I thought she was just a pretty face and a set of cans.
2. She surpassed the Beatles in #1 singles. Holy crap.

I have a lot more respect for her than I did before seeing that show last night (which wasn't hard to top).

Yeah, she just beat Elvis' record for #1 singles for a solo artist with Touch My Body.

Another female just beat another record of his, too. Can't remember who (Madonna, maybe?) I'll have to look it up. Was a bad month for Elvis in March.

edit: Found it:

Madonna will trump Elvis Presley, The Beatles and Michael Jackson this week, if her latest single lands in the U.S. top ten, giving her her 37th Top 10 hit.

It did make it, so there you go.

I haven't liked Mariah Carey for many years now...she just comes across as WAY too arrogant to me, but she was okay on the show.

David Cook was amazing. I loved Archuletta, even if it is the same every week. He did a great job last night.

I was least impressed with Brooke. It just wasn't good. I like her, but I think she's a bit out of her league. I'm thinking Carly, Brooke & Kristy bottom 3 (if it were to actually go by their performances).

I've always been a huge Mariah Carey fan... She's from NY. I used to see her quite a bit in the city back in the early 90's. When she was married to Tommy Motola, they lived in the next town over from me - always created a bit of a stir...
She's actually one of the most talented singer/songwriters to ever grace the airwaves... Her writing skills alone have always been world-class... And of course, her voice has always been amazing - able to reach notes few others never could...
She's been through a lot in her life (who hasn't I guess), and here she is, still standing strong and looking terrific...She's a very giving/caring person who often goes back to her high school (on Long Island I believe...), to give back, free concerts, etc...

Yea... I'm a Mariah fan!!

So, Kristy Lee Cook leaves the show lats night. I was surprised - although it seemed like she knew she was leaving. Wierd. Brooke's time can be long off, unfortunately for her and those who like to hear her sing. I figured it would have been last night. Syesha is also not long for the show. The final three will most likely be the three remaining men.

I can watch the rest of the show because Kentucky Fried Cook is gone. I'm satisfied with the remainder of the cast. Other than Brooke, I can imagine all of them pulling off an insipid Diane Warren-like Idol ballad, which is I guess is the goal of the show. I'm surprised Brooke has made it as far as she has with one of the most visible cases of stage fright I've ever seen.

David Cook remains the coolest Idol contestant ever.

I think this year Brooke is kind of the only one left that seems like a "real" American Idol contestant? I know she's got some prior experience too I think she already has an agent, but compared to the others she's the only real "amateur" left. The only true amateur in the final 12 was Malubay.

You are right though she is visibly scared up there at times, I find it refreshing she admits to it, but it does become a problem compared to the others who seem so much more comfortable on stage.

I hope Cook wins he'd be the first true "rocker" to win. Didn't hurt Daughtry not winning of course but it would be nice to see Cook take it.

Can't stand Daughtry. Cook is far more interesting to me because it's obvious he has an ear for arrangement beyond borrowing someone else's. He's arranged without assistance the past two weeks and they've been very strong efforts.

I guess I see real talent as opposed to just being technically acceptable, which is how most of the other Idols are. It's not enough in the music industry to be a good singer. You can be a great singer (see: Franklin, Aretha) and sing covers and people will flock because that kind of talent is rare. You can be a good singer but exist for the long term only if you also have an ear for writing good hooks. I think Cook possesses that kind of skill. He also has that fresh husk in his voice that gives him credibility in spite participating in a contest that honors cheeseball balladeers.

Yeah I'm not saying Daughtry is a genius just that I thought he was the most talented in his season but he didn't win because he's a rocker not pop. I'm hoping that won't be the case with Cook.

It's hard to really judge the talent of anybody when all they're doing is singing covers which is why as you said the arrangement is so important at least you can tell if they have some ability beyond just singing it like the original. That's really been what impresses with Cook I hate to quote Paula but he makes songs his own and still pulls it off, the others for the most part can't do it.

I think winning the show will hurt David Cook's creative ability. Brooke is the type that would make a GREAT lounge singer, but I can't see her being a pop star. It seems all the contestants except for Cook, are missing something. Stage presence. We know they all can sing, but what else do they bring to the table? David Cook is the only performance worth looking forward to each week. How is it that he was not noticed before this show?

I can point you to people like Cook here in Phoenix performing every weekend. Sometimes it's merely a lack of opportunity. Anyone who's ever been to SXSW knows there's a lot of talent out there seeking an audience, but big label A&R guys are looking for YOUNG & MARKETABLE, not twentysomething and introverted. The music comes second.

Exactly the music comes second to alot of the record producers. Local talent EVERYWHERE around phoenix area and I am sure many other cities. Their interested in what they can sell, not actual talent and good music.

Can't really blame them, though. Music is a great way to lose money these days. Phoenix talent flees town as quickly as the first opportunity arises because we don't support local acts. Well, music that's not country, I mean. A friend of mine has released three CDs. Good pop music. Two of his songs went gold in Europe and he's toured there to support it. No one in Phoenix has ever heard of him and he plays the Scottsdale/Cave Creek bar scene like all the other respectable cover acts. It's difficult to convince a label to dump money into his projects when he can't generate any interest locally.

Gotta Admit. Carly was pretty good tonight.

David Cook showed me some serious singing chops tonight also.

Carly is still too much of a screamer for me - I just don't enjoy any of her performances. Castro was just plain bad, perhaps even worse than Brooke after she messed up, but he will be safe and Brooke will go home - deservedly so.

I didn't like her performance. To "yelly".

Castro and Brooke were terrible. I hope Brooke goes home. She has 3 memorably bad performances, the stop/start, the whoo-hoo and drunkard spin, and now last night.

Syesha, holy cow. Simon was right that was really sexy and IMO her best performance.

Cook was great again, now proving he's isn't a one-trick pony ala Archuleta. Archuleta can sing but just like Castro it's like they sing the same song every time.

K, I haven't read anything yet. Just listened to a few. They all suck so far, IMO. Archuletta is up next and is singing..holy crap...Think of Me.

Quick outing of myself, as 82 did with Mariah...I freaking LOVE phantom...love it. I just adore the music from this and the story and the heavy hand in all of it. I do. Ef it, you bastards...I love Phantom. A guy singing Think of me???

Ok, I'll be back with thoughts on this, and the other songs after and the results (thanks DVR).

Oh, and Brooke needs voted off...she sucks anyway and the second restart of a song in about 4 weeks? Oh, good-bye. I'm betting she is kicked off. Good riddance.

Sorry David...I love that song and it didn't do it for me...all it did was make me want to hear the original from the play...so I got the CD out.

This is counter to David Cook making me hum HIS version of Mariah's song in the last week...weird.

I hope Cook doesn't falter this week.

Not happy thus far...

Oh crap...Cook. Music of the Night????? Really? Holy hell, man. Oh, either your arrangement needs to be perfect, or you need to sing the original like you are giving birth to it.

Ok, Cook can do ANYTHING.

Yikes...he's my second fave Idol ever...right there with Kelly.

I actually wanted to not like this. It was Phantom. But he didn't do anything to it. Yet he did it which some others did not do (archuletta).

Second listen: very much feels like I'm at a performance of the play, not seeing him singing at the start...A-PLUS!...that's the feel needed there. It's such a building song. He transitions in the song so well. "Only then, can you belong to me.......falling, floating..........touch me, trust me....." so well done. Great strong/soft transitions.

I don't like his sound on "strange new world" but that's about the only thing I don't like. he owns on this though.

Vote him off, America, so he can be more successful!

Yikes...David would be a siiiiiiiiiiick Phantom in a kind of more rocked version of Phantom.

That is all.

Until I see who is voted off in about ten minutes.
