BTW, I've heard so much about JD Fortune, who won the INXS rock star show and how much better he is than Chris, and how Chris can't hold a candle to him in the rock genre.
I DL'd some JD songs from that competition tonight and listened...I expected to be impressed. Hey, he was singing some great, GREAT songs. California Dreaming...Dirty Vegas...etc.
I was NOT impressed. Chris is a far better singer. I couldn't put my finger on why I didn't like JD though. Something about him really bugged.
So finally, finally, Chris sang a song that JD did as well. Suspicious Minds. I must say upfront that I don't like Elvis. Not a bit. I love the Beatles with all my heart, and I love the Stones, but Elvis just does not do it for me...however, Suspicious Minds is one of my all-time favorite songs...it is fantastic. I thought Chris was fantastic on this one...just brought it. I was so eager to hear JD's rendition, since people online said it was the bomb.
It was not. It was a silly rendition of Elvis. Lounge club Elvis impersonator style.
I shook my head and said...what??
Then I read up some on JD...it seems he WAS an Elvis impersonator for awhile and then it all clicked. I didn't like his style because he has so much wannabe Elvis in him..and not the star elvis, but the Vegas lounge act Guy-kinda-like-Elvis. Yuck.
Chris would have won that INXS show hands down.
It was nice to be able to see them side by side (audio only...maybe JD was a fantastic performer, but his audio sucks).
Gave me a little happiness to think that even the better rock singer chose AI over something more attuned to the genre.
Chris may get bumped tomorrow, but I'll buy (read download) his songs.
JD is a pretender...a pretender Elvis to boot. BTW, in case you are wondering...he made California Dreaming sound like crap. I almost cried, then downloaded the original to cleanse my ears.
