IMO, it's mean-spirited and childish. Spin it any way you like, but my opinion hasn't changed.

Whaaaaaaa! Its a karaoke reality show. I don't think it matters enough to make anything that happens on the show "mean spirited" or "childish." I have always watched it, but having that guy on the show is hilarious and it is entertaining. The show is meant for entertainment. It adds a new element. He's going top 3 guaranteed.

So you're saying it's NOT mean-spirited, or you're just okay with people being a-holes for the sake of being-a-holes?

Normally I wouldnt care.. But this year I do.. And the bolded part concerns me.. The reason I care this year is because Jordin Sparks ( a Glendale resident and happen to know her family) is in the competition this year.. This means if everyone is so gun ho about Melinda and Lakisha then Jordin will miss out of at least the top three because of the fruit cake no singing biy Sanjaya.. So at least for this year I do care if dumb asses that follow old man wrinkle bones acting like a lil kid cuz he got beat up in school Howard Stern vote for the worst.. At least this year..

actually, i think he said it best when he said:

I don't think it matters enough to make anything that happens on the show "mean spirited" or "childish."

personally, i don't watch the show. but from what i can gather, the smaller the field of people, the more votes every candidate will have. let me know if i'm getting this wrong, because as i mentioned, i don't watch the show.

if you have this situation currently (and this is a simplified version, but you'll get the point):

singer 1 - 1,000 votes
singer 2 - 1,000 votes
singer 3 - 1,000 votes
singer 4 - 1,000 votes
singer 5 - 1,000 votes
singer 6 - 1,000 votes
singer 7 - 1,000 votes
singer 8 - 900
sanjaya - 1,000 votes

singer 8, based on this vote, gets eliminated. now there are 7 "normal" singers and sanjaya left. let's say all 1,000 votes for sanjaya are goofball votes. assuming the 900 people that voted in the last were voting based on their opinion of talent, their votes will now go to different "talented" singers. so the next vote might look something like this:

singer 1 - 1,128 votes
singer 2 - 1,128 votes
singer 3 - 1,128 votes
singer 4 - 1,128 votes
singer 5 - 1,128 votes
singer 6 - 1,128 votes
singer 7 - 1,128 votes
sanjaya - 1,000 votes

now, i know there are more variables involved, but the general principle should be the same, correct? eventually, the number of goofball votes will be outnumbered because the legitimate votes won't be so spread out.

Good summary, jenna - which is why the vote-for-the-worst campaigns have worked in the earlier rounds, but have fizzled as you get closer to top 4 status.

I agree to an extent. Jordin is the best in my opinion, but winning this show will have nothing to do with her future success. The best has only won twice out of 5 previous seasons. If Sanjaya won it would be par for the course when you realize no talents like Rueben, Fantasia, and Taylor Hicks have emerged victorious. Maybe a top 3 prediction for him is too high. He'll go at least top 5.

Jordin is not the best - she is a probably the 3rd best, maybe even the 4th best on the show. Right now this is Dolittle's to lose - everyone else is fighting for a #2 spot in my opinion.

I've seen Jordin be good before, but she was really bad last night. Really bad. Well, not Sajoyoyoma bad but mid-tier bad.

Doolittle just scares me...she's a weird cat. I didn't watch any of the songs before Sligh guy, but tuned in when he was getting criticized. Everyone else was bad to ok, with Blake pulling an ok. I honestly don't know what the judges hear sometimes because C-Fed was terrible and Paula and Randy had Cfed orgasms.

I think Simon is bored to death.

IMO Blake is the only unique one out of the bunch and has enough talent to actually do something after this season. The rest don't impress me much.

You say that like there's something wrong with being mean spirited
and childish?

:D

My argument would be it's not hurting Idol because all these people voting for Noah.... err Sanjaya are still presumably paying the cost of the call which is giving Idol money.

And we've already seen in past seasons that the voting is not and never was "fair". Remember Jasmine Trias going MUCH further than she deserved because she was getting a hugely organized voting push from Hawaii and from Filipino fans? The show has always been a popularity contest to a large extent.

.

There is no cost to call, just to text. Or have they changed that?

Also, these arguments of "it's helping AI with publicity" are fairly baseless. It reeks of the school of thought that "there's no such thing as bad publicity," which is false.

Idol is already wildly popular, and bad publicity isn't helping anything.

(I thought of this on my drive home. :))
