Axelrod's attorney, Jay Paul Deratany, said he planned to sue Davis and his wife for more than $1 million. Deratany said he was writing the papers Thursday for a battery suit against Kendra Davis and a slander case against Antonio Davis, and planned to file them Friday.

Possibly the most blatant smoke screen in sports history.

I wonder if they will have more video of this. I know most of the cameras were focused on the court, but there could be some more shots out there.

I think he got ripped. Even if it turns out his wife was to blame. He saw a situation with a family member, responded, and didn't go overboard doing it. I think the penalty was harsh. Maybe the Player's union gets it reduced.

chap - figuring that I'm on the 11th floor, i'd immediately phone security on the ground level, alert them of the situation and then make my way out of the building

That's exactly the type of answer I would expect...

Davis gets 5 games without pay....

NEW YORK, Jan. 19 – New York Knicks forward Antonio Davis has been suspended five games without pay for entering the spectator stands, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Senior Vice President Basketball Operations.

"We have made it plain to our players and our fans that players may not enter the spectator stands, no matter the provocation, and that violations of this policy will be treated with the utmost seriousness," Jackson said. "We have concluded, however, that Antonio's actions were the result of his belief that his family members required his immediate assistance, and have taken those mitigating circumstances into account in setting the length of the suspension."

The incident occurred with 1:04 remaining in the overtime period of the Knicks' 106-104 loss to the Chicago Bulls at United Center. Davis will begin serving his suspension tonight as the Knicks host the Detroit Pistons.

I love how their wording makes it sound like they're doing Antonio a favor by giving him only 5 games...

hey, if you would rather her get continue getting attacked while you spend 5-10 minutes getting out of a building that is your perogative

me, i'd rather have someone who can get there in 2-5 minutes meet me at the scene

also, there is a lot of chatter going on that she was being out of control and that security came over and accessed the situation and pretty much told everyone to calm down

also the fan was brought back to seating to finish watching the game after being interviewed by security

looks like this is going to garner a lot of bad press and headaches for antonio and his family - when it all should of been a non issue - but when you overreact and run into the stands this is the type of stuff you have to deal with

5 Games is a bit steep.

But if he had a choice, or anyone for that matter, to either witness their family being victims and do nothing, or risk a fine and do something... the latter is the human thing to do.

2 games tops would of been sufficient, he should appeal, since he has the power to. But its not like the Knicks will be in trouble, might as well have a couple of weeks off.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that he's a Seattle fan... :D

heh .. you mean a seattle fan who likes a team with the loudest stadium in the league ;)

and i'm far from a wussy pacifist ....... all i'm saying there is a time to act and a time to back off and let others do their thing

why go charging into the stands, face a suspension, fine, lawsuit and bad press when you could of just yelled from the court had the same results as running up and saved yourself a lot of headache

Because yelling isn't going to stop a potential fist to your wife's face. You being there might.

once again - you can get security there faster by yelling than by running into the stands

once again a security guy was there waiting for antonio

once again, no one was looking to smack his wife - it was an arguement and by most recent accounts she was being a pain in the butt

I'm a world class athlete used to outrunning most people I meet in life. Yeah, I'm thinking some security joe who is 50 pounds or more overweight is going to beat me to the scene. Whether or not that happened, I'm sure Antonio's thoughts were that he could get there faster than anyone.

I used to be an above average athlete, and I know my mindset was to depend on my athleticism in a situation over that of some other person's. ;)

Oh, and he got there pretty damned fast, JUST WALKING! He could have got there faster than anyone had he REALLY wanted to do so. So saying him yelling at security would have got them there faster is kinda moot. There would have been the "what is he saying" delay. By going towards her, that got security there faster thinking they were blocking him. THEN they saw what was going on. ;)

let's see 40 feet from gate to row for older dude

versus

jumping over a table, climbing over rows and cutting across 3 sections for athletes

yeah - i really wonder who would have a better response time

If you actually, honestly, truly think that security could have gotten there more quickly than Davis himself, I can understand your position. You're talking about a half-asleep dimwit who doesn't even know what section of the arena he's supposed to be looking at. I personally think there's no chance, but we don't have any way to be sure, so you could be right.

Let's put it this way. I would trust Joe getting there faster than arena security! :)

And how was Davis to know that the guy might not take a swing? He didnt, and neither did you. When a man takes a woman as wife, he does take a vow to protect her, does he not?

Unless you have the new vows like Osprey that you love, honor, and protect her IF things get really serious, but if you are playing a game and they say you can't break a rule, then call security. Now, you may kiss the bride! :)
