your description of leinart's play is not completely genuine. yes, he did dump the ball off when under a constant rush. and yes he avoided getting hit. but he most definitely did NOT "keep the ball moving." his check downs invariably resulted in 3 and outs. to portray his play as anything other than that is disengenious.

I never said he moved the ball far, just that yards were gained.

Your delusional if you think the pathetic display of our qb and lack of offense doesn't affect the defense both physically and mentally! Another game this bad and this team will have zero confidence in da as the qb!

Great post. Not real hard to figure out but for some it is rocket science.

we let them score on 3 consecutive possessions to start the game... with a couple drives and a TD sandwhiched in between. That D was dead from the start of the game. Arguing otherwise is pretty tough.

that being said, the O was terrible too.

LOL....3 and out after 3 and out, great field position, INT resulting in a short field, that has an effect on a defense cheese. Defense sucks, but there is a reason why I am not overly concerned about the defense.

The defense is fixable. They can be good. They have talent. Derek doesn't have either and that is why the QB is a much, much, bigger problem. Derek was a joke in week one and the defense was great. Derek is a joke and our team is going to struggle as long as he is ran out there.

Remember when Leinart wasn't given the C on his jersey a few years back and everyone flipped? Why wasn't it brought up when the ADD QB wasn't given the C?

DA is the WORST starter in the history of the Phoenix/ Arizona Cardinals. This is a much bigger issue than anyone wants to admit.

Yep. Our D just didn't stand a chance. They were getting blown off the line from the first snap. This was the worst I've ever seen them play.

The O as well looked terrible for the most part. On the big Hightower run there were a couple of great blocks. Thats probably the only positive thing I can say about them. That and at least Hightower didn't put the ball on the ground again. If you can consider that a positive.

Cant agree more! That locker room is gonna start to turn on DA and even Whis if something does not change. This team believes they are the best in the division, they believe they can make a run. And when your QB looks as horrible as DA looks and the coach does not make a change it could get back. Remember Whis and all his talk about how it is not just about number, it is how the Offense responds to the QB. Well ding ding, they aint responding to DA in a positive way. The look on Fitz's face the last two games says it all. The last thing this team can have happen is for that belief that they can make a run seem unrealistic, after that happens it is over.

correct me if I'm wrong... but didn't the falcons take the opening kickoff and then jam it RIGHT DOWN OUR THROAT? Then, didn't they take their next possession and jam it... RIGHT DOWN OUR THROAT? If the defense is THAT affected in the first quarter of a game, they suck.

Defense sucks, but there is a reason why I am not overly concerned about the defense.

dude, I think DA sucks, but so does this D, which sucked at the end of LAST SEASON... and then got WORSE in the offseason. They can't generate ANY pressure, we have ZERO linebackers in a linebacking heavy scheme and Toler has yet to show he belongs on the field. They've got major problems as well.

The defense is fixable. They can be good. They have talent.

they have no talent in the middle of the field. Our LBing corp is probably the worst in the league... and we run a scheme heavily dependant on them. That's not going to change so how is it fixable?

Derek doesn't have either and that is why the QB is a much, much, bigger problem. Derek was a joke in week one and the defense was great.

Derek is a joke, but the Defense was GREAT... against a HORRENDOUS Rams team where they made their rookie QB's first performance actually look solid? Sorry, not buying what you're selling there.

uh... no?

this may be true, but whay you guys can't admit that our D, which was rough last year and got WORSE in the off-season, is a huge problem is a head-scratcher to me.

Just ask yourself if DA makes anyone on the team better or if he has done anything as of yet to help the team. If not, he is garbage. If Whiz sticks with him the season is lost.

Sorry man, disagree. Defense isn't the 1985 Bears but they aren't nearly as bad as you portray. At least they kept the crappy Rams in check. DA couldn't do jack against the crappy Rams. If the Raiders light up the defense I will admit that I was wrong. I don't think that will happen. But I can assure you that DA will struggle vs the Raiders. So the defense can contain the poor teams, but not the good teams....DA can't compete vs anyone. QB is the most important position in football. DA is the worst starting QB in the NFL, maybe in North American pro football.

in 3 of their last 4 games (all against teams with a pulse who weren't 1-15 last year and starting a rookie in his first ever game) they've given up 45, 45 and 41 points. Come on man. This D stinks. Hell, even in the pre-season, they were getting pushed around by every first team offense. I mean, when was the last time they actually played well?

At least they kept the crappy Rams in check.

big deal... the Raiders held them in check too... after giving up 38 to the Titans the week before. i think it's safe to say holding the Rams in check ain't a barometer of jack squat.

DA couldn't do jack against the crappy Rams. If the Raiders light up the defense I will admit that I was wrong. I don't think that will happen.

The Raiders offense is are horrific as well... next week's not gonna tell us much of ANYTHING for Offense or Defense.

we'll see if the defense can contain the poor teams. It contained a team coming off a season where it was one of the worst teams of all time. Yay.

You didn't comment on the other part of my post where I said no QB could have done any good taking the pounding DA took today. I'm surprised he was still lucid.

Jay Cutler took a beating in Dallas and played very well.

 I am certainly not happy about Derek Anderson as the Cardinals starting QB. I think Whisenhunt made a mistake in his choice of Anderson over Leinart; better yet why wasn't another QB brought in during the offseason?

That said, given the statement quoted above, you have a very short memory... :|

I'd say its a pretty accurate statement
QBs Better than DA:

Stan Gelbaugh
Dave Brown
Josh McCown
Jake Plummer
Dave Kreig
Stoney Case
Tom Tupa
Jeff Blake
Kent Graham
An Old Boomer Esaison
An Old Jim Mcmahon

I'd give you about half of them. But Jeff Blake, C'MON? Blake is one of the few QB's that could make Leinart look like a leader.

Name one that was worse. Jeff Blake was better. At least he could complete a touch pass.

QBs in the UFL better than Derek Anderson:

Jeff Garcia
Daunte Culpepper
Josh McCown
Brooks Bollinger
Tim Rattay

If you can't throw accurately you can't play QB.

That's not totally fair. He's not Warren Sapp or John Randle, no, but he's one of the best three-technique defensive tackles in the NFL right now.

He has an impact even when he's not collecting sacks because I've witnessed him get triple teamed on some passing downs. That means that you have three OL blocking one-on-one on the other pass rushers, plus a man out of coverage, whether it's a TE or a back.

At that point, it's on someone else (Calais Campbell, anyone? Joey Porter?) to defeat one man and get to the QB.

I was at my in-laws' for today's game, so I can't say whether or not this happened today. But Dockett has an impact even in games where he doesn't show up on the stat sheet because of the attention he demands.

If you're putting him in the same breath as Julius Peppers and Mario Williams as a pass rusher, yeah, he's overrated. But I'd put him up with any other three-technique tackle in the NFL.

mind you, i never said he sucked. in fact, i said he was a robin, which would make him a super hero still, just a lower level super hero. a very good player that this board thinks is the second coming of bruce smith. i just think we overrate him. he was invisible today.

DA sucked.

you still haven't answered why you think the D gets a pass despite letting the falcons march the ball right down their throat for a score on the opening drive. the D sucked from the get go and didn't get any help from the O. luckily mike smith took multiple knees at the end of the game rather than further humiliating the D. which they already did to themselves.

btw, in the steelers-falcons game the week before i seem to remember the steelers not scoring all game too, but somehow their defense continued to play great. must be because they didn't start derek anderson.
