THIS ONE IS FOR YOU KOC. TIM WE DID IT.
I should be ESTATIC about the coaching changes of Whiz and Grimm but for some reason im not. I beleive they are great choices and will make a difference but having my hopes up EVERY offseason for 19 years has kinda numbed me to getting excited in the offseason this year. I am sick of being let down by the orginzation and the whole Denny Green thing really took the optimisim out of me. Can for once we have a winning season here in AZ with these new changes? or is it gonna be same ol same ol?

I feel the same way except the signing of Grimm excites me more just for the fact that the Cardinals were willing to pay the money it took to get him here.

Seems to me the Cards are slowly changng the way they do things. Every year they do somthing alittle better than they used to. This year they are showing they really want to win by signing guys that should truley help.

There next test is who they get in Free agents...

I've seen it all since I started rooting for the Cards in 1955....time for some positive stuff....and I don't mean I'm positive we suck. Reasons to be guardedly optimistic:

(1) Whiz and staff

(2) Grimm and an OL helped by either FA or the draft or just good coaching

(3) The draft or FA improving the D with guys like Asante Samuel (well I can dream can't I)

(4) Another year of experience for Matt at QB

(5) A somewhat favorable schedule

Besides the "culture of losing" that pervades the Cardinals clubhouse, the fans have become jaded and refuse to believe anything will help this organization.

When you constantly worry about something bad happening, it usually does.

Until we change that bad karma, this team will continue to lose.

There are numerous professional teams that have gone through bad periods. Tampa Bay, New Orleans, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, etc. All of them have eventually turned things around and reached the pinnacle of their professions. The Cards can do the same thing. All the ingredients are in place.

With a little positive reinforcement from the fans, the positive influence Wiz and Grimm will bring and the win at any cost attitudes of players like Q and Wilson, the Cards are facing their best chance of climbing out of this Grand Canyon of losing they've ever had.

You don't have to be estatic about the changes, but at least see the positive side and accept the fact that this team is poised to break this curse and bring us back to the land of the living. The Wiz is gonna be at the end of this yellow brick road and he has the answers we've been searching for for so long.

This wierd feeling that we have is called a good thing and we're not used to that feeling. May it never go away, although we may feel a little light-headed if we stand up too fast from a sitting position. :)

Problem is that there has been a low correlation between expectations and results in the past.

There's nothing wrong with that. It will be far less taxing on the psyche not to get too far ahead of ourselves. Instead of getting all hyped up about what may happen, we'd be better off cooling our jets and waiting for good things to actually happen.

When only bad things happen, it's hard to assess which moves result in good outcomes and which ones don't (because we have no positive outcomes to judge by).

Once we experience a few successes, we'll be better able to understand which moves we can excited about in advance and which moves we should withhold judgment on.

NY Giant fans are good that way. Despite winning a few Super Bowls, you seldom hear them going overboard with the Kool-Aid the way fans in other cities often do.

Bottom line - not being excited isn't necessarily a bad thing/just a battle-hardened thing.

I have been a fan since 1945 and for once I am very pleased and we have not even drafted yet. For once I know who is making the player personnel decisions. We are spending money on top notch coaches. We have a sold out stadium. We have a possible all star QB and two magnificient receivers. Let us just do well in FA and the draft and we could be in the playoffs. I have not felt like this in 60 years. The stars are alligned---

Every year I predict 10-6, 11-5, 12-4.......this year I believe we will go around 10-6. The difference is that I feel for the first time it is a realistic expectation.........:raccoon:

a fan who was around when the cardinals last won the championship.

Pa tells us all the story of how the cardinals dominated in the 47 championship.

The changes look great, but it all comes down to Sundays in September and October. They need to start the season off with some Wins and excitement.

Rallying in November and December to finish a 5-11 season does nothing for me.

Definintely I'm somewhat numb to the changes. I need to see proof on the field before I get too excited about anything anymore. If it had been up to me to pick our coach from the available candidates, Whisenhunt would have been right up there. Its a good hire. But I'll need to see proof on the field before I believe that we've arrived anywhere.

Only 3 teams on the sked over .500 helps. Plus the coaching change. Plus the extra year of experience for the 70% (or so) of the players on this roster with under 4 years of NFL time. You gotta like the chances of a turnaround. But I'll hold-out on lofty expectations until we finish up a FA signing period with 3-4 potential starters, we get more speed from the draft, and everyone (who counts) makes it to the first game at 90% healthy.

Yes, I'm not getting all jazzed up over the new coaching staff. I like them, but years ago I'd have been doing cartwheels. Maybe a cool free agent, or a great draft, will get me excited for a bit. But, until we have a winning record, all these offseason moves will mean diddly-squat really.

I am hopeful but that is as far as I am going. Too much can happen between now and the end of the season. In 1974 the Cards under Coryell started the season 7-0. They pulled out several close ones at the end during that run. I knew then we could definitely have something going on. They of course cooled off a few games and showed some strength and determination at the end and won some close ones against some tough teams. Then they won the division and made the playoffs.

We shall see. I am expecting nothing more than 8-8 this year hoping that i turn out to be foolishly cautious.

Not numb, but your certainly take things with a grain of salt.

This team just signed the #1 Head-Coaching candidate in the NFL AND arguably a top 3 assistent coach. I'm glad, but I should be going crazy, the national media should be going crazy.

Well, I have just been through a few years of disappointment, not decades like some of you guys, but there seem to be some significant things different for 2007:

Heisman Trophy winner QB with Super Bowl winner backup
Two Pro-Bowl wide receivers
Durable running back capable of 100 yard game every week
New OL coach with four Super Bowl rings
Easiest schedule in the league
Weak division

And the best new is: The Bidwills have discovered their wallet and aren't afraid to open it!!

I hear ya. This team doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt nor deserves to be labeled as a changed team until it proves it. I loved the signing of Edge. I actually love the hiring of Whiz and Grim. However, there is no reason to start drinking the coolaid.

:koolaid:

When the Cards prove it on the field and the ownership stops getting in the way of football guys running the franchise..then and only then will it be time to get excited about this team.

I'm not numb. I wish I was. It's like I'm in an abusive relationship, and after everytime I get abused I'm told that things will be different and I believe it.

I can't do anything but hope, because the alternative is too bleak to contemplate.

Good post 100%. I was looking for the appropriate feeling going in to this off season. I think you summed it up perfectly. Hell, I didn't even reply to one post about the signing of the Whiz. Wait and see is the new mantra for me.

Doesn't our new HC have a Super Bowl ring, too?????
