Barring a meltdown Cal is in. They currently an RPI of 18 and looking like at least a 12 win team within the conference. The Oregon and LA Schools are out due to too many bad losses and NCAA sanctions unless of course they get the automatic bid at Staples. Everyone else probably has to get to that 12 conference win total to get in and even then it will be dicey due to lack of quality wins. Both Arizona schools assuming they cannot beat Cal will likely have zero top 50 wins at the end of the season which is very damaging to a Tournament resume.

Barring an improbable run, neither team really deserves to be in the tourney.

Agreed, if we can't win the Pac-10. We have had some good showings this season though, so I'm looking forward to the upcoming games.

Matt, I'll see ya at the Oregon game, right??

Well, no championship this year, but the announcer mentioned that he sees the possibility of there being three teams in the tournament from the Pac-10. We'll see about that...I think we deserve to get in if we can win the next two games and step up as a clear #2 team in the conference and also get a win or two in the tournament.

The shots just didn't fall and that's how it is with this team. Kuksiks really needs to wake up. What's most disappointing is how horrible we've been at the free throw line all year. We've taken ourselves out of games by missing these easy ones and that's not acceptable...

If ASU wins out and Cal loses out we get a share of the conf champ. Not as good as undisputed but still a feat that we at ASU have never felt. Its a longshot but still possible.

That's true, but I don't take that as seriously since we lost both head-to-head match-ups. It's like our shared football championship with USC in 2007. So, my focus is on us winning these next two and whatever happens, happens in the Cal-Stanford game.

It's pretty simple really, if we don't hit our 3s, we don't win. We don't have the inside game or driving ability to win games without it. Cal's D played decent, but there was still a significant amount of missed open 3s, uncontested layups and, my god, the free throws.

Kuksiks has completely disappeared and it's either because he's injured or because his mind is already back in Europe. Either way, he needs to come off the bench next weekend.

helllo NIT...

Unless we win the Pac-10 tourney (which for the record I think Washington or Cal will win it) it is NIT here we come...

And thats ok, all things considering, for the year, we had a terrific year thus far...

We will lose Glasser, Boetang, and to a lesser extent shipp will hurt, but overall next year our team should be better, and set up to contend for another PAC-10 championship again...

Good job on exceeding expectations this year Devils... and we also can look at the bright side, UofA is going to be biting its nails just on getting into the NIT this year... it will be the greatest thing in history if UofA gets snubbed... :D

Not to worry - I'm not sure Arizona will accept a postseason bid unless they get three miracle wins at Staples. The NIT and CBI are stupid financial drains.

I also think if ASU wins their next four they're in the field of 65.

Sean Miller publicly said he'd consider not taking a postseason bid with the exception of the NCAA's. Said the time would be better spent in the gym and weight room. He's right although I'm guessing at the end of the day he would accept an NIT berth were we invited (and I assume we would be if eligible simply for the TV draw and Arizona brand).

No matter the records or circumstances, a win over UCLA is always a little sweeter than the normal win. I think if we make the title game of the PAC 10 tourney, we have a shot at an at-large bid.

Also, have to tip my hat to Eric Boateng. That guy worked his butt off from the day he got hee and went from one of the most awkward looking ASU players I had ever to seen to being a true force in the paint.

I feel like we should be in at this point. 22-9 in the Pac-10. Even though it sucked, I still think the committee will recognize it as the Pac-10 and let 2 teams in.

The two teams will be Cal and whoever wins the Pac-10 tournament.

The fact that it is the Pac-10 is irrelevant because the conference is so bad. Couple that with the fact that ASU has exactly 0 signature wins this year and there is plenty of reasons to leave them out of the dance.

Much to my surprise, Lunardi put us in the " last 4 teams in" group yesterday. The guy has an amazing record of projecting the field the last few years. But, if we lose to Stanford in our first PAC 10 tournament game I think we are out for sure.

Lunardi's not actually a projector of anything - he is simply the face of ESPN's sources within the Selection Committee. I think whoever wins that UW/ASU game in the semi's gets in and the loser gets the NIT assuming things go as planned in the lower conference tournaments.

It is funny though that laxman says ASU should be in when he's railed against Arizona teams with better resumes making the Tournament the last two years.

It will be either ASU or Washington even if neither wins the tournament...I believe ASU is the second best team in the Pac-10 and they deserve it, but if they slip up against Washington, the Huskies will have a much better case for making it in the tournament. We need to beat Stanford and then beat Washington, or hope they get upset in the first round.

ASU could still get in even if they lose to UW, but will just need some help in th other conference tourneys. The winner of the UW/ASU game locks it up, that game will be an absolute war.

asu's resume:

RPI: 52
SOS: 71
Record vs. RPI Top 25: 0-5
Record vs. RPI Top 50: 1-5
Record vs. Current Top 25: 0-3
Signature wins: None

IMO, they have to at least make it to the PAC-10 title game, and hope that there aren't many upsets in the other conference tournaments, in order to get an at-large bid.

If a team like UA or UCLA manages to win the conference tournament then asu is out.

Considering we were picked 8th in preseason polls, I'm thrilled we have a chance to even make the tourney.

Thats of course not really relevant. You can only compare a teams resume to the field that year, not what teams did in other years. Getting into the tournament is a relative achievement, you get in relative to your strength versus other teams that year not versus some all time standard that spans the ages.

Either way I think the UW-ASU winner gets in, and perhaps both get in depending on what happens in the mid major tournaments. I hope SDSU does well and wins the MWC tourney, that would help ASUs resume.
