You're re-enforcing my point, this is an especially weak bubble so a team with ASU's resume would not even get a sniff in years past.Thats of course not really relevant. You can only compare a teams resume to the field that year, not what teams did in other years. Getting into the tournament is a relative achievement, you get in relative to your strength versus other teams that year not versus some all time standard that spans the ages.
That seems to be the way it's shaping up.Either way I think the UW-ASU winner gets in, and perhaps both get in depending on what happens in the mid major tournaments. I hope SDSU does well and wins the MWC tourney, that would help ASUs resume.
The argument two years ago was that it's more beneficial to play a good team and lose than a bad team and win (which is true) and that Arizona had several quality wins both within and outside the conference that elevated their chances. ASU as of today is 0/2 this year on both criteria but accomplish one by beating Washington at Staples and will likely get in. It's not that complicated.its funny Mao because ASU's loss to Duke is the same kind of crap you were arguing should get the Cats in 2 years ago...
Old Dominion and Siena won tonight, thats good for the Devils. We need Gonzaga to beat St Marys (theyre down 1 at half right now) as well to help things along.
Also, ESPN currently has Gonzaga as a 5 and ASU as a 12 (though in different regions), I wouldn't mind playing them at all. Against common opponents ASU lost to Duke by 11, Gonzaga lost by 35. ASU beat San Francisco by 40, Gonzaga lost to them by 4 and beat them by 6. Gonzaga beat Wazzu by 6, ASU beat them by 11 and 25.
Not that looking at common opponents tells you everything, but the Zags dont exactly put the fear of God into me and 5 v 12 is always good for an upset.
ASU and their bubble competition:
School W-L | RPI | vs. RPI Top 50
Arizona State (Pac-10) 22-9 53 1-5
Florida (SEC) 20-11 51 4-8
Georgia Tech (ACC) 18-11 44 4-7
Illinois (Big Ten) 18-13 74 4-8
Memphis (Conference USA) 23-8 46 0-5 (Lost today to Houston)
Mississippi (SEC) 21-9 56 2-6
Rhode Island (Atlantic 10) 21-8 42 1-4
San Diego State (Mountain West) 20-8 36 2-5
Seton Hall (Big East) 18-11 54 4-10 (Lost yesterday to Notre Dame)
Washington (Pac-10) 21-9 49 2-2
22-10, 2nd in the Pac, they should be in, IMHO.
The record is fine, the problem is ASU did not have a good RPI and coming into tonight Stanford was at 175. ASU's loss is probably going to drop down to the 70's which effectively dooms their chances.22-10, 2nd in the Pac, they should be in, IMHO.

Always ASU, always....
Houston? We have a problem...damn, Houston winning thie championship game today didn't help us.... Our already low chances took another hit.
