its funny Mao because ASU's loss to Duke is the same kind of crap you were arguing should get the Cats in 2 years ago...

Thats of course not really relevant. You can only compare a teams resume to the field that year, not what teams did in other years. Getting into the tournament is a relative achievement, you get in relative to your strength versus other teams that year not versus some all time standard that spans the ages.
You're re-enforcing my point, this is an especially weak bubble so a team with ASU's resume would not even get a sniff in years past.

Either way I think the UW-ASU winner gets in, and perhaps both get in depending on what happens in the mid major tournaments. I hope SDSU does well and wins the MWC tourney, that would help ASUs resume.
That seems to be the way it's shaping up.

The argument two years ago was that it's more beneficial to play a good team and lose than a bad team and win (which is true) and that Arizona had several quality wins both within and outside the conference that elevated their chances. ASU as of today is 0/2 this year on both criteria but accomplish one by beating Washington at Staples and will likely get in. It's not that complicated.

Old Dominion and Siena won tonight, thats good for the Devils. We need Gonzaga to beat St Marys (theyre down 1 at half right now) as well to help things along.

Also, ESPN currently has Gonzaga as a 5 and ASU as a 12 (though in different regions), I wouldn't mind playing them at all. Against common opponents ASU lost to Duke by 11, Gonzaga lost by 35. ASU beat San Francisco by 40, Gonzaga lost to them by 4 and beat them by 6. Gonzaga beat Wazzu by 6, ASU beat them by 11 and 25.

Not that looking at common opponents tells you everything, but the Zags dont exactly put the fear of God into me and 5 v 12 is always good for an upset.

Would much rather see the Zags than Maryland, who Lunardi has us currently facing in a 5-12 match up. Of course, first things first...

Do all yourselves a favor and stop quoting Lunardi, there are countless more respected people on the internet in his same niche that are proven to be better prognosticators. Bracketology 101 seems to be the most respected.

UConn is losing to St. John's right now, that would help us because that would kick them off the bubble

UConn wasn't on the bubble although I supposed they could have played their way on to it. Probably not enough to get past ASU though unless they miraculously got to the Big East finals and ASU lost to UW. Today probably locked up South Florida's bid although ASU was probably behind them anyways.

Lunardi also has UAB on the bubble and they lost today to So. Miss.

All good news for the devils

wow what a depressing result.

Hopefully UW loses and so do all the other bubble teams, but ASUs chances just dropped to nearly nil.

22-10, 2nd in the Pac, they should be in, IMHO.

:sparky:

22-10, in the weakest the Pac10 has ever been, with no wins over quality opponents? It is still possible but highly unlikely ASU gets in. Everything will have to fall their way the the other conference tourneys.

Biggest game of the season and they stunk it up pretty bad. Stanford played really hard, and ASU was flat to start the game.

Honestly, it'd be a national joke if we made the tournament after that. Dick Vitale might have a stroke.

What a miserable showing tonight. UW needs to lose tonight to help our chances at all. With that said, we are a VERY long shot to make the tourny now, IMO.
