Being from Baton Rouge and being a huge L.S.U. fan we got one hell of a player in Minter.....Very good football instincts and most here believed he was the best player on the L.S.U. defense ahead of Reid and Mingo

Not excited about a short SILB taken in the 2nd rd.

I'll take a wait and see attitude though.

Insider Scouts Inc profile:

Overall Football Traits

Production 2 2009: Redshirt 2010: (11/0) 15 tackles2011: (14/11) 61-3.5-1 2012: (13/13) 130-15-4 Career: 6 PBU, 2 INT, 2 FF
Height-Weight-Speed 3 Stocky build and lacks ideal height. Didn't run as well as expected at the Combine but reportedly ran in high 4.6s at Pro Day and that time is more accurate based on film.

Durability 1 Has dealt with cramps on occasion including missing time against Florida this past fall. However, has suffered no significant injuries that we are currently aware of and has appeared in all 25 games during the past two seasons.

Intangibles 1 No red flags. Scouts have called him a pro's pro. Developed into the leader of the defense. Not overly vocal and leads by example. When he does speak he has everyone attention. Good work ethic and he is accountable.

Inside Linebacker Specific Traits

Instincts/Recognition 3 Displays average instincts and reaction skills. Generally makes solid reads but does not show great anticipation and does not diagnose on the move. He diagnoses and then goes 100mph's to attack and catch up. Will become overzealous at times. Can over run from the backside and create a cut back lane Also has a tendency to bite on play fakes. Shows above-average awareness in coverage. Does a nice job of looking up crossers and flashes ability to sniff out screens. Looks to strip the ball when having the opportunity.

Take-on Skills 2 Sound taking on blocks. Stays square to the line of scrimmage. Appears to have good core strength and is packed tight in the lower half. Wide based and takes on blocks with proper leverage and pad level. Doesn't have elite explosive upper strength and didn't see him jar many blockers on tape. Does not slip many blocks and needs to improve in that area. Can't be a 'take on' guy all the time and get away with it in the NFL.

Range vs. Run 2 Easy mover and shows above-average range for his size. Very good motor. Balanced and changes directions fairly well when he's not out of control. Takes a bit too long to accelerate off of cuts. Builds speed as he goes. Protects feet well when moving laterally. Angles can be inconsistent which can hinder his range at times. Will be too flat or duck underneath blocks on occasion in pursuit.

Tackling 3 A fundamentally sound tackler when he's in position. Packs some power in lower half and can deliver a heavy hit. Wraps up upon contact but appears to have shorter arms which can give him issue corralling in space when not in ideal position. Biggest issue is that he gets going too fast at times and will not be able to gear down in time to properly break down in space. Fails to finish on too many open field and/or pursuit tackles.

3rd Down Capabilities 4 Can hold up if protected in underneath zone coverage. Has quick feet and gets adequate depth on zone drops. Shows ability to turn and run to carry TEs downfield but will have limitations in man-to-man coverage. Has some stiffness in hips and does not show good burst when turning and running or coming out of breaks. Opponents in the NFL can isolate him and exploit him with quicker/faster RBs. Doesn't have elite length or leaping ability. Has never been a big playmaker in the passing game and has dropped catchable balls on INT opportunities. Not an explosive blitzer but times pressures well and flashes power to run though blocks.

How far will Barkley drop now? None of the remaining teams in the second need a QB. Maybe Houston will groom him behind Schaub.

I still can't wait to have the trade back explained to me. There were so many good players and they said they would take BPA. Then why trade back? How could they know who they wanted would be there in the mid-40s? Did we need a 4th round pick that bad? Just seemed strange to me. I wouldn't have done it and none of us expected it. Can't wait for coaches explanation.
