Golden has the size to play D-end in a 4-3 and that was his position in College

DE: Jones, Golden
DE/DT: Nkemdiche, Gunter, K. Martin, Mauro, Pierre, Rucker
DT: Peters, Williams
OLB: Reddick, Bucannon
MLB: Bynes, G. Martin, Wright
This. Golden ran like a 4.92 40 at the combine, no chance he plays off ball LB. Dude needs his hand in the dirt.

The 4-3/3-4 debate is interesting and will be something to watch. We've been 3-4 for so long my mind struggles to wrap itself around the concept of a traditional 4-3.

In the end, I wouldn't be shocked if we did what the Pats and other teams do, run a hybrid depending on the situation. As has been mentioned we have versatile players

He ran 4.74 and 4.76 at his pro day, and I don't think he "needs" to have his hand in the dirt. That was the rap on him coming out of college, but he seems to have adapted his game to become a real 3-4 OSLB.

So I’ll predict his real time was like a 4.85-86 considering Pro Day times are faster than Combine times. However, I do agree with you.

Bears fans are tripping over themselves for Bettcher as DC on Twitter.

What a strange world it is.

That is also true that timing by hand is usually better for the athlete. He ran 4.9 at the combine but the average for DE/OLB is 4.78 and the average for an OSLB 4.73. If he ran a 4.5 he would been drafted over Shane Ray his team mate...:lmao:

We’ve had much worse than Bettcher.... he’s solid if unspectacular IMO.
But he seems to play people outside of their natural positions for reasons I don’t understand.
