If Philly and the Lakers had the chance to pick again you'd have to think they would select between Donovan Mitchell, Jayson Tatum, and Josh Jackson. Maybe throw Lauri Markkannen in that bunch also.

I could see Lauri working really well next to Embiid. I don't think Philly would do the trade with Boston again. They'd probably like a mulligan and take Lauri at #3. They have Saric already but Lauri is better. They have Covington as a SF already which might make Jackson redundant. Tatum is a great shooter that they could have used. They still owe a pick to Boston for Fultz as well. Boston made out quite well. I don't think they'd be able to take Mitchell unless they stayed at #1 because I think he'd fit with the Lakers the best if they could pick again. He doesn't move Ingram or Randle out of place, they'd still be able to grab Kuzma later. I doubt any star's would look to avoid him in LA like Ball either.

They would run to the podium to changes their choices. LOL

Finally someone with common sense and Basketball IQ, Ball would be a facilitator, push the tempo and run the offense, his very best attributes. He won't have to be the Man like he was being made in LA

It would help to have a PG that can shoot well. Teams will double off of Ball onto the Suns other shooters. They will double off of Ball to disrupt the awesome Booker/Ayton PNR.

You don't get it -- if he can't shoot, then there's no need to defend the guy. If there's no need to defend the guy, then the opposition will put their best defenders on our good shooters, making it more difficult for us to score.

And he doesn't have to be "the man", he simply has to be a complement to our other pieces. And right now, he doesn't check all the boxes. Getting Ball is not a good conciliation prize to improving the Spurs and Lakers IMO.

Hope this goes down. If nothing else it'll be cool to knock off a Lebron led Lakers team on the way to our next finals appearance........

yes, all those players were better before us. Manning was best on the Clippers.

the opposite list is players who got better -- Barkley and Kidd are most notable

I just don't think this is right. According to Barkley, he was clearly at his best in Philly. Manning had a better career with the Clippers but he was not really in decline when we got him. He actually played better for us than he did his previous team (he had a brief stay in Atlanta). He had 3 very impressive months with us before he blew out another knee and it was downhill from there. I think most people believe that Kidd was at his best in New Jersey but regardless, he was definitely better with the Suns than the Mavs. But he was only 23 or so when we traded for him. KJ got better with us, Dennis Johnson was better before us and after us, Nash got better after us and then again with us, and so on.

I just don't see any sweeping claim that can be made one way or the other. Yes, it's almost always best to not spend big or give away major assets for a player approaching or over 30. And we screwed up with Tyson and Dudley. Tyson because his decline was already evident, just ask Dallas. Dudley because every time we've given him a new contract he's used that extra money to eat his way into the slow lane.

Payton is capable of doing the majority of things Lonzo does without the added headache. Lonzo may be better at doing them but the gap between the 2 isn't that wide. There's a reason the Suns decided to go in another direction rather than stick with Elfrid. Neither one of them can shoot 3's, midrange shots, drive to the basket that well, or play very good defense. Difference is Lonzo has better court vision, not all that much better though, and Payton can actually make FT's. So if we were looking for a PG that was only able to be a playmaker and didn't bring anything else to the table, why not just keep Payton?

LOL as opposed to getting Smart who can't pass or shoot hahahahhahaa Ball can shoot and Ayton will make open shots drawing doubles, Ball can shoot his free throws were down, but he was almost 70 in college. You rather have Smart @ 16 mil. Ball pushes the pace, has great Court vision can rebound and he shoots way better than most pgs they are talking of adding, you just don't understand Bball if you can't see how Ball matches this team

Please quote where I said ANYWHERE that Smart is better than Ball for this team. I like Smart, but think he will cost too much money for what he would bring. NOWHERE did I say I'd rather have Smart.

And you don't know me at all -- I don't understand bball? You have no idea what I do and don't understand. So you can get out of here with that nonsense.

Well that's who the Suns are looking at, the PGs they have available are going to make more than Ball, it's a no brainier to land him

Id take Ball in a heartbeat. 2 and 4 last year....1 and 10 this year. That is awesome. Ball can ball think with your basketball mind you know he makes us better big time
For those saying this would be a team ready for a championship in 3-4 years, after LA and GS are over, how do you propose to keep the contracts of 4 top 10 drafted players? Because for the scenario to pan out, they all need to achieve their high rated potential. IMO, at least one of the 4 will have to go...

Taking Lavar out of the equation, I would definitely prefer Ball over Smart. I'd probably prefer Ball over any of the PG names we've talked about signing or trading for. But I'm still not in love with the idea as the spectre of Lavar always looms. Still, if we can get Lonzo without giving up any major assets, I'd reluctantly do it. Probably.

You mimic the Celtics and use that talent to trade for greater talent/draft picks. Having good young talent is a good thing!

What if we could take Hart + Frye instead of Deng + ball ? Is that doable?

Hart has a good relationship with Bridges and seems to be a solid leader .

I'm iffy on adding Ball, because of the headaches, but if you think he and Payton are anywhere near the same level you have not watched them play. Lonzo can't shoot... he's truly terrible at shooting, but he is somewhere between good and elite at everything else. I don't know that Payton is good at anything and he is a truly putrid defender.

Wow. Does anyone really expect this? I think we can be knocking on the door in 3 or 4 years but it usually takes another few years of knocking to actually get there. But I'm not worried about the contracts.

Regardless of the players involved, arguing against adding talent because eventually you'll have to pay more to keep it is... I don't want to sound condescending, but it's inane. Please... let us have the "problem" of worrying about which young stars to keep and which to trade away when they require a huge extension. Is the solution to this "problem" to have guys who are not worth spending money on?

Where did I argue for, or against, anything? I simply pointed out $$ in the future and posed a question.

Thanks, though, for being honest with your condescension...lol

If we could land Hart and Ball that would be amazing. Esp not having to give up any of the 4

I don't see how the future cash situation is a concern. If you've got several guys worthy of big contracts that is a GREAT problem to have.

I admit I didn't watch a ton of Ball playing but from what I did see Payton did a good impression of during his first 2 weeks with the Suns. Payton did look awfully legit when he arrived. I don't think anyone can deny that. I don't know what caused him to fall apart though. It could have been coaching or he may have just had an amazing hot streak but when I looked at his stats in Orlando he did have a couple of similar stretches. So I think he suffers from sort of motivation issue. Perhaps he's the PG version of Alex Len, capable of looking like an All-Star for a week and then falls off completely. If someone found the way to unlock that part and keeping him playing well, he could be a really solid PG. I know he was awful in March and April, there's not way around that.

I'd almost rather deal with the headache of watching Payton go up and down than see Lavar and Lonzo. Lonzo lit up Bledsoe to start the season last year and people were praising him as being as good as Lavar sold him but then he didn't play Bledsoe the next night and came back down to earth. I believe he recorded his first or second triple double of the season when the Lakers played Milwaukee after Bledsoe arrived. That caused a lot of people here to laugh at how bad Bledsoe was and we made the right decision to move him since watching Ball look like an All-Star 4 teams a year when the Suns met the Lakers would not be fun, especially since he didn't show much of anything against anyone else.

Frye is an expiring deal, he's a free agent this summer. So that couldn't happen. If you're looking at salaries make sure you look at the ones for the 2018-19 season.

If PHX could somehow land Love & Ball that would solve exactly what PHX is reportedly looking for. A stretch PF and a distributing PG who can actually play defense. The only thing is that by getting Ball they help LA form a super team unless George stays in OKC and LA just lands LeBron & Leonard.
