although the comments after the article are horrible
Boy that Jaf1982 guy sounds familiar.
While I can find some commonality in the opinion, I can assure you Russ Jaf1982 me are most definitely not one in the same...
Its not like Matt isn't playing because he sucks. he happens to be on the team with the best QB in the league the second half of the season last year. I would be playing Warner over V Young in a heartbeat. (I would probably play St. Pierre over him to, but whatever---bad example) Matt will have the job soon enough, and I predict he runs away with it this time.
Leinart is a bust, I think Whiz made the right choice going with Warner.
Well thought and insightful post.
On second thought; as a 49er fan and having experienced the bust Alex Smith you may be onto something.......Or not.
You're definitely right. I have experienced the inability from a lot of fans to admit their first round QB is a Bust and watch them come up with a bunch of excuses to defend the player. Leinart is one of them because of his bad work ethic and poor arm strength.
Games played:
Alex Smith - 32
Matt Leinart - 16
Sorry, Matt Leinart has a long way to go. He hasn't been in a tit for tat war of words with his coach. He has a organization that has the patience to wait for him to develop. He has some stability behind him with the QB coach, and offensive coordinator.
Completely different situation, and the Cardinals organization is far from labeling Leinart a bust. The arm strength/work ethic rumors have been squashed, and is nothing but ESPN/national media looking for a story, and in ESPN's case tying to cover thier butts for printing a untruthfull story.
The Cardinals may not be perfect but at least they are smart enough not to have knee jerk reactions like starting Brian St. Pierre over Warner and Leinart because of a good preseason. I hope the Niners have more patience with J.T. Sullivan and his 4 games played and zero starts because IMO they are going to need it.
Matt Leinart had the luxury of having two number one Wide Receiver's. I'm sorry but if you can't even keep your starting job with Fitzgerald and Boldin, their is very little hope for you in this league.
The arm strength issue was never a rumor, it was a fact. Leinart doesn't get enough velocity on most of his throws and tries to compensate by putting too much air under his throws. The Poor work ethic issues will never go away until Leinart gets rid of his Hollywood image like he had at USC.
BTW starting O'Sullivan over Smith is hardly a knee jerk reaction when Mike Martz personally preferred O'Sullivan over Smith. No offense but I'll take Martz's judgment on a QB 100% over your opinion.

Who cares about Alex Smith, he's a bust and this thread isn't about him.
Ridiculous. You mean like Kitna, and O'Sullivan with what they had in Detriot? Or Carson Palmer and the wonderful stats he put up in Cincy last year?
"Kinda like the arm strength issue Montana and Young had."
"Exactly what I think of Whiz's judgement on our QB situation over your opinion that seems to be cut and pasted from ESPN."

Carson Palmer are you serious, at least he led the Bengals to the playoffs. When has Leinart achieved that?
Even Kitna threw for 4,000 yards last year, Leinart hasn't done that either. The two QB's are clearly ranked above Leinart, terrible comparisons.

These guys had work ethic. Leinart will never even in the same sentence as those two.
"Exactly what I think of Whiz's judgement on our QB situation over your opinion that seems to be cut and pasted from ESPN."
Seriously what are you talking about? I agreed with Whiz's judgment on your QB situation with starting Warner over Leinart. May I suggest reading comprehension?
Fine but you didn't address any of my comments about Leinart?
Why does it matter about the Wr's since Warner has the same Wr's?
Why don't you comment on all the stuff from Whisenhunt talking about how hard Matt has worked to improve. I think it's clear he didn't use to think Matt worked hard enough, he's made it clear he no longer thinks that way.
I think the limiting factor on Matt will be health, if he can stay healthy he has a chance to be a good NFL Qb, if he can't he won't.
Hopper,
Personally, I think you made some valid points. Most opposing teams' fans get banned here quickly because we insult them, then when they respond they get banned. I like an outsider's point of view, and I have yet to find you overly homerish. Hope you get to stick around for a while.
