However, after the Magic announced that they wouldn't be making a T-Mac trade until after the draft, the Suns grew impatient and agreed to the swap with the Bulls.
While Suns sources wouldn't characterize the talks with the Magic as "dead," they claim that they are no longer in active discussions with the Magic for McGrady.
Why would the Suns give up a high lottery pick for only a future first-rounder? The Suns didn't feel that any player left at No. 7 would help their team immediately. They also wanted the extra cap space. By getting the No. 7 pick off their books, the Suns are suddenly looking at $16.3 million in cap space this summer to make a run at free agents.

All I have to say is they better do something big with all that cap room.
playstation said:actually, if there is a new collective bargaining agreement that includes an age limit, next year should be one of the deepest ever, because it'll be the LAST one before an age limit is implemented (hence all the young'uns come forward)

Can the ESPN "Insider" be none other than Jim Gray?
devilalum said:I don't see how this effects the TMac discussions that much.
Orlando might prefer a future lotto pick to the #7 this year anyway given that they already have the #1.
That Chicago pick will probably end up being top 5 in 2005 or 06.
Chicago is going nowhere fast.
Yeah, perhaps Jerry C. and Co intentionally leaked this report to perhaps to force more urgency on the Magic to deal McGrady more sooner than later.... They obviously know how ESPN is always "hungry" to report anything (regardless if its not from a credilble source or the validity of it) and how immediate of an uproar those reports cause.....Even on NBA.com they're just quoting Ford's report....If this actually was consummated, wouldnt you think they'd have reactions from the actual parties involved?Evil Ash said:Good point. I saw the report on ESPNews 1 time and they haven't repeated it.
Anyone see confirmation from any other source?
