it's not a horrible trade....it's actually a pretty good one. i was just really looking forward to the draft and the suns not having a pick takes alot of excitement out of it.

exactly. It sucks because it takes some of the excitement out of tomorrow's draft day.

I still wouldn't rule out more dealing tomorrow though.

I switched a nice mid shift to a 6am-11am to make sure I got to see the whole draft. Not to mention pushed back my departure to San Diego to late late Thursday night.

I heard about the deal on 1060 (national feed - just the announcement and no details). I have to admit that my first reaction was severe disappointment in that I had been looking forward to the draft for so long.

However, by the time I got home I had a chance to think about a few things.

1. They had been warning us for months that they were looking to trade the pick and did not want to get younger.

2. The Suns had the seventh pick and a six player draft. None of the players being considered were going to become starters this season and several were projected to take as many of as three years to do anything.

3. The Chicago pick has the potential of being very valuable. Betting on the Bulls continuing to be a bad team is a pretty good bet even if it risks them being in the top three.

4. $2 million in cap space is not huge, but it is 1/3 of what the Suns just got done paying a draft pick to get. If the Suns are serious about finding starters through free agency, even a couple of million could be crucial. I really doubt that Kobe is going anywhere, but the Suns were about a million short in making an offer if they had to pay a high draft pick.

5. The Suns have clearly announced that either Vujanic and/or a FA point guard is in their plans. They had been looking at a lot of PG's and must have decided they aren't ready.

I have to admit that my desire to keep the pick was based on the hope that one of the top six would drop. I am have to think the Suns decided that just wasn't going to happen and they could get more value from using the $2 million on a free agent.

I like this trade.

Right now it seems to be this year's #7 for at least another #7 plus a high 2nd rounder plus cap relief. What's the problem?

Gordon won't. Let Igoudala to fall anywhere.

There are rumors that the Bulls are trying to move their #3, which is why they wanted the #7. I don't know if that will happen, but it could mean that someone who wants Gordon might take him there.

Some interessting news from the Bulls front.

Apparently the Bulls since adding the 2M$ of a #7 pick and sending 3M$ cash to Phoenix are now likely not planning to match offers for Jamal Crawford...

I think it would probably prove that 3M$ is still a lot for ANY NBA team. It just doesn't look like much to the fans because we are probably signing guys to contracts worth more than 100M$ this offseason.

Those 3M$ might have been a big part in the trade with Chicago because according to Philly news the Suns contacted them as well about moving out of the draft.

Considering we just sent 3M$ to Charlotte so they would take Jahidi White..

Washington only got Antawn Jamison and his horrible contract out of their #5 pick while giving up decent players in Stackhouse and Laettner with decent contracts.

The top picks seem to have very little worth this year...

Jerry Stackhouse is only a good player if he actually plays. He basically missed the entire last season and hasn't been the healthiest of players over his career. Christian Laettner only have this next season on his contract, but it is for $6.2 million.

Jamison makes 58M$ over the next 4 years...

Laettner makes 6M$, Stackhouse makes 22M$ over the next 3 years.

The Wizards got very little out of their #5 imo.

I don't mind this deal one bit. The Suns obviously felt they werent going to get who they wanted at 7, and a possible top 4 pick next year is just as good as a this year 7, IMO, in terms of negotiating with Orlando.

I bet the Suns are saying they arent in active negotiations for TMac to push Orlando a bit. If the SUns truly had the best offer on the board, changing the pick isnt going to kill the deal. Especially considering that most everyone feels like beyond pick 6, no one is going to have an immediate impact this year anyhow.

The overreacting by fans on this board is hilarious. Skkorp, the ultimate Colangeli hater, is spouting about cheapness when its not even a factor, and cheesebeef is screaming and yelling over something that affects NOTHING we were purportedly working on anyhow.

I love having an early 2nd rounder, and I love that we just got back the 3 mil we shelled out to get rid of White.

A good deal.

I'm starting to be less down on the trade, but I think "possible top 4 pick next year" is an exaggeration. The pick is top-3 protected, so the only way the Suns get a top-4 pick is if Chicago winds up exactly at #4. That's not too likely.

Hmm, but it is "possible," which is all you said. Never mind. :p

you guys think a 4 pick is coming just because its top 3 protected?

a bird in hand is worth 2 in the bush

if this paul pierce thing happens for the bulls, they make the playoffs in the east, and pax kills us again.

hell, even without paul pierce, they've got a couple important pieces in contract years, so you know they're going to bring it. I think we'd be lucky to get a top 10 pick out of this. in the last year, we've given up 1 future pick, 2 knicks picks, 1 cavs pick, and 1 lotto pick. thats just sad

i also don't understand you're unwavering faith in a franchise that in the last full year has done NOTHING to earn that trust. seriously, are you all living in 1993 or something? at this point, the suns are GUILTY until proven innocent. they have to show me something, and if its okur, they will have only succeeded in turning wine into water...

Apparently Crawford is gone. He may be a cancer, but he's their best offensive option one-on-one, unless I'm forgetting someone.

I don't have a problem with this trade at all, but I want to see the Suns actually make a real move and aquire somebody. Being under the cap is nice, but what good is it if you are not going to sign anybody?

I am sick of this.
