I would add that Ellington is not far behind Hump with respect to BA's doghouse. Ellington got BLASTED after the Brown TD. BA ripped his head off on the sidelines and then in the post game presser, singled out Ellington by name, stating his mental error was inexcusable.

What did he mess up on?

Edit: I see it know

He either missed an audible on the blocking scheme or heard it and did the wrong thing. It was the type of mistake you would think only a rookie who never had to block in college would make.

There were WAY to many free shots on our QBs last night. That has to be cleaned up or this will not be a .500 team, much less a contender.

RT was a hot mess. All 3 guys had bad games.

Some thoughts that aren't worth their own thread.

QB-Stanton will be gone next year, and neither Thomas nor Sims look like a long term answer.

RB-With David Johnson's night, I won't be shocked if Chris Johnson is out. Taylor plays special teams which is important. I don't see CJ doing that, and DJ being that up to speed.

WR-Nice group.

TE-Meh.

OL-Sowell and Massie look like a wash. Humphries was a bit disappointing. The rest looked ok.

DL-Nice group.

ILB-Garbage.

OLB-Physical group that looks worse that it is without help from the inside.

CB-Better depth than I thought.

S-Deep group.

P/K-Neither P has looked good, and Cat is missing FGs.

-Iupati will hurt worse than Peters. i am still amazed at the players who are playing ILB for this team. For such a deep roster, this unit is awful. Worse ILB unit in the NFL. Also is hurting Bucannon's development as a S.

thanks for the post, totally agree with u,ILB is almost like the qb of the defense, and what we have actually is terrible in terms of talent and speed

Well, Sims is an UDFA with 2 preseason games to show and actually looks decent all things considered, I don't know how that call can be made just yet and we can always re-sign Stanton.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see Hughes gone versus Taylor and keeping CJ. Taylor is good at everything, great at nothing. Hughes is good at some things, but DJ looks to be a good candidate for short yardage and we can always use a TE for a fullback, if needed. This will be one of the more interesting roster battles the next two games.

I think you might be right about Taylor over Hughes. It should be a difficult decision. You explain each player's plus point perfectly.

Surprised you have Kareem over Riddick.

IMO, the unknown upside of Riddick is more valuable than the known downside of Kareem.

KMs done nothing. Hes physically weak. Slow. Ive yet to see him make any play on his own. Every once in awhile youll see him pile on a sack or TFL, that a teammate made. They tried moving him to OLB since his stint at DE was a big fail.

Riddicks nagging injury is annoying, but when healthy, he has immense athleticism. I think itd be better just to oust the ineffective KM, and be patient with Riddick getting healthy.

Iupati is the worst loss by a long shot. We can survive w/o Peters and, to an extent, Massie (I do think he's an upgrade over Sowell though). Humphries being as immature as people have indicated is a bit concerning. This would be his opportunity to seize a starting role and never look back, but he's not taking it seriously. Did not like the pick in April and am certainly not liking it right now.

I think Chris Johnson sticks as the team can't rely on Ellington due to health reasons and a veteran presence would actually help him, especially one with a similar skillset. I think the pecking order for RB is:

A. Ellington
D. Johnson
C. Johnson
K. Williams
R. Hughes

Center was a concern and the loss of Iupati doesn't help. If Larsen is starting, the team is going to have to keep a blocker to pick up the man he's inevitably going to let sneak into the backfield. Fortunately, Cooper looks healthy and confident so far this preseason, so that's one less worry on the line.

ILB is terrible. Spoon needs to get healthy and who the hell knows if/when Washington will be back. Ideally, both are back and ready during the 2nd half of the season, but that's wishful thinking at this point.

Other than that, this is a pretty good football team with depth at many areas.

Kareem made a few plays last night.. and can't make the club from the tub. Riddick has to add bulk and can probably be stashed on the practice squad at this point.

I think Chandler Catanzaro is going to be pissed to see that he's been replaced by his illegitimate half brother, Chris.

Admittedly I'm biased having seen taylor all through college but I was thinking the same thing last night. I can't see us keeping 3 RB's who don't play ST and with Ellington, Johnson and Johnson that would be the case.

I'm still not sure what it is I'm missing with Hughes. Again last night gets a carry from the upback position, it's actually fairly well blocked, he comes in completely upright, sheds an ankle tackle attempt and then finds the only defender not blocked and runs right into him, think he gained a yard.

With Taylor they either don't like him and aren't playing him much for that reason, or they already know what they have with him so they're playing other guys? Which is the truth I have no idea.

Taylor played a couple of snaps including ST, I really think he is in and they are evaluating Hughes, Grice and Williams at this point. Lasike barely played either, but I'm assuming that he is PS as best given how raw he is.

That's what I meant by my second comment, they either think they know what they have with him and don't need to see him much he's in, or they don't like him and don't need to see him, he's out.

My guess is he's in. I suspect they want to give Ellington some work because he was hurt so much last year they want to shake the rust. With Johnson obviously he needs reps.

Taylor came in caught the pass first down went right out. My guess is he'll make the team because he can play ST.

If we keep 5 I'm guessing Ellington, the Johnsons, Taylor and Hughes. I'm still not a Hughes fan but I think he must grade well on ST and as a blocker or something. BA seems to like him for some reason.

I'd be shocked if they cut Williams. Just don't see that happening.

Grice will be gone before Taylor...

Can't believe how much BA rides Humphries... His quote from earlier this week was such a punch to the gut when he stated Humphries shows up once a week.

I really really have grown to appreciate Tony Jefferson. He is a consummate pro.

It reminds me of watching Denny Green ride Darnell Dockett like a rented mule up in Flagstaff his rookie year.

I remember DG stopping practice time after time because DD was resting down on one knee between snaps. He would blow his whistle and spend 30 seconds just yelling at DD,letting him know he couldn't rest because he had to be ready for the snap of the ball.

It's because they see the potential that makes them ride them so hard. If they can get them to realize that potential they have something very special.

If we keep more than 3 TE's, that is just plain stupid. I'd go with Fells, Gresham, and Momah. Quartey may have made a couple of decent plays, but the majority of the time he seems to be slow to react and out of position a ton.

What's gonna happen to Sims? If LT claims the 3rd string, he gonna be cut? I like him and think he has serious potential. He's not ready now, but he has all the talent to make an impact. Cannon, pocket presence, fast, etc.. Would hate to see him to go another team and have the possibility of succeeding. I know it's preseason and he's playing against other 3rd/4th and players being cut, but there is something there

Humphries was pissing me off over a small thing Saturday night. Every time he came off the field he went and sat down on the cushioned seat on the golf cart behind the Cards bench last night. He also was getting most of the fan. Everyone else on the oline was on the bench.

It just rubbed me the wrong way.

All day and twice on Sunday!!!
I don't get the Niklas hate... I know he hasn't been healthy, but I think he has a ton of potential if he can stay healthy. Not many TEs can block Calais Campbell 1 on 1 to a stalemate. The other day in practice, he not only blocked Oakafor, but drove him backwards & put him on the ground. He might never be a great pass catching TE, but he could be a top 10 blocking TE in the league. We don't throw the ball to our TEs that much anyways.

Obviously he has to stay healthy & start showing up on game day, but I don't think there's any way the Cards would give up on him this early.

Ha! Think that can even happen this quick?

He's the offensive BUSTer Davis...sometimes it's better to cut your losses. He's a higher paid Housler with the added bonus of being fragile.

D J Humph looks bad to me. in both games he has played hesitant
the first game especially he didn't fire off the ball on runs and he is WAY WAY too passive on pass protection

go back and watch him, he's a long way off being worth a 1st right now. :bang:

just my opinion of course :)
