I doubt it but that would actually be great for us. Another great player could potentially fall to us.

My hope is 3 QB's, 2 RB's, and one OT go in the top 12.

Yep.

Ideally there is a run on QBs right before the Cardinals pick. That means a blue chip player most likely falls to the Cardinals.

Anyone throwing out Kaayas name isn't paying attention and didn't watch Kaaya play.

He is decent when he isnt pressured, but the guy is an absolute disaster under pressure. Like I said earlier I will be terrified if the Cardinals draft him because it would show they have a highly flawed view of QBs. It's extremely hard to fix a panicky QB.

There is nothing Davis Webb has shown in his entire career that should lead you to believe he's the player Arians was talking about. Every raid QB that's been drafted has been considered not ready to play so what has Webb shown for you to think he's the guy that breaks the mold?

I agree. Maybe they are stockpiling picks to trade up for Darnold next year. :)

Still want Mahomes this year. ;)
Darnold makes every QB in this years draft look like UDFA's. If he's anything like he was last year...sure fire #1 pick.

Remember "tank for Teddy" and assorted other grand assessments of the QBs in the 'next' draft... I say the next draft and the drafts to follow will offer the same athletic projects

We're not going to suck enough to take a top flight QB anytime soon, unless we trade the farm to move up next year for Darnold or Rosen.
The rest of these guys, this year's bunch, are projects, which is fine, but not worth a first round pick and certainly not worth three or four picks to move up.

And then next season, when Darnold ends up not being as highly touted as we thought and we have a chance to draft him, folks will want to pass and wait until NEXT year for a QB.

I'm not saying Darnold will fall like that. Just making a point that the grass is always greener in the NEXT draft...until it isn't.

The whole notion of tanking defeats the whole purpose of competing.

(Mora again): "You play to win the game"; not "to have a nice draft."

+1

The problem is that outside of taking Thomas, the Cardinals have continued to ignore QB options. Barkley could be considered a swing but I don't think the team ever really viewed him as a real QBOTF.

Watson coming in for a visit
Clemson QB Deshaun Watson is visiting the 49ers on Monday and Tuesday and will visit the Cardinals on Wednesday.

The 49ers pick No. 2 overall in the first round and are scheduled to come back on the clock in Round 2 at No. 34. San Francisco won't pick Watson No. 2 overall, but may be interested in trading back into the first stanza if he begins to tumble down the board. The Cardinals sit at No. 13 and have been sniffing around the class' top signal-calling prospects.

ARZ meeting with Kizer today. I think Kizer is the QB BA refers to as being the one NFL ready because of his experience in a pro style offense. Question is, are Kizer's deficiencies something BA can fix (there are quite a few)?

Good God, learn from Stanton????

Here is what a rookie QB could learn from Stanton.

1. If your under pressure.... Throw immediately to your first read.

2. If the line holds, and you have all day: Throw immediately to your first read.

3. How to make ESPN while dancing on the side-lines.

I put the most importance on #3...... But I would teach our QBOTF that for a few tickets and a hot dog or two.

I still love that dance. Great game.

2017 NFL Draft rumors: Mitch Trubisky won't last long, DeShone Kizer could plunge
After Trubisky is off the board, the QB debate centers on Patrick Mahomes vs. Deshaun Watson

After that tier, there are two other quarterbacks under first-round consideration in Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer and Cal’s Davis Webb, but the sense I get from the scouting community is they are heading in very different directions. Kizer might just slip out of the round entirely with execs not sold on his attitude and maturity, while Webb continues to generate a groundswell of support. It could end up becoming much closer between those two than most would have expected back in September.

This is where smokescreen stuff starts to concern me...

But still, @Southpaw's post makes sense to me. I'm not even confident that these QBs are going to MAKE it to 13. The 49ers, Browns, and Jets are WAY more desperate at QB than we are.

Bruce Arians a big fan of this quarterback class. Best in the last four or five years, he said.

I think so as well. The only top guy I don't like is Kizer, but he has a high ceiling.

I like Mahomes the most, but a case can be made for the others as well.

Watson
+ winner, leader, great athlete throws catchable ball
- low velocity, uglier deep ball, lots of mistakes

Webb
+ big, strong, good deep ball, smart
- wonky offense, a statue

Trubisky
+ compact quick delivery, good athlete, good deep ball, smart, accurate
- lack of starts huge concern

Dobbs
+ Smart athletic QB, good deep ball
- not the most accurate, up and down career

I think based on my own litmus I would want Mahomes/Trubisky at 13. I'm more hesistant on Trubisky and would only take him if other players I liked weren't there, which means I shouldnt take him at all. I like Watson on a trade down, Webb on a trade up, and Dobbs 2nd/3rd round.

Mahomes at 13 or Kizer in the second or even Dobbs in the second... simply because they are now in demand and we cannot let our guy get away pussyfooting around playing the draft value championship

Gotta do it. If we think one of these guys can play, make the pick, don't look back. Don't hand-wring over that extra 3rd or 4th rounder we could have gotten. Especially if we move back, lose out on our guy, and end up using that extra pick on Troy Niklas 2.0.

Drafting is a gamble and drafting a QB is a huge gamble but that is the game and the high stakes involved at the professional level. We need a freaking young QB because our older QB already kept the franchise waiting while toying with retirement. Given the situation and then hearing the overtly cautious talk of some, makes me think of the shootout at the OK Corral when Wyatt told Ike Clanton to either get in the fight or get out

It wouldn't shock me if Bill Belichick is the leak saying Mahomes is his favorite QB in the draft. That way he can scare some crappy team picking early in the 2nd round into giving up a bunch of picks to trade for the #32 overall pick.

The Pats traded that pick for Brandon Cooks a couple months ago...but Bill is so good, he could probably trade it again.
