OK but the point is they would have to drive further if you go and don't get it. A FG won't beat you only a TD. They only had to go 70 yards instead of say 96 if we go and don't get it.

I just got my power back so I haven't had time to look but I think the expected win % or whatever it's called is about 25% higher if we go for it than if we kick the FG. A friend of mine is a Vikings fan, she watched the first half got home, saw the score and then watched the 2nd half and first thing she messaged me was why the hell did you kick the FG that was not very good math.

Even if we throw the ball on 4th down and it's incomplete, we still use a few seconds and they get the ball at the 4, not the 30
But they don’t have to go 96 for a fg. It’s easier to tie the game and at that point, away from home, with all momentum against you, the cards likely lose in OT.

Agreed. Petzig seemed to stick to his gameplan all game. Generated 6 scoring opportunities. Tough to argue with that. Can grouse about going too conservative in red zone, but that’s also who he is and maybe he doesn’t trust kyler enough to do more.
So he trusted Kyle to do it in the first half of the season when we were scoring touchdowns but now all of a sudden he doesn’t?

So either Putzis an idiot that needs to be fired or Gannon is forcing changes.

I guess we will just disagree. To me the extra 25 plus yards they have to go if we don't make it are worth me risking going to OT if they kick a FG. Because if they kick a FG they probably went the 70 yards they had to go for the game winning TD.

It's not like a omg you can't do that decision, there are other coaches who would have done the same thing, and Kyler defended the decision too. The crazy thing is that was a bad snap we were very lucky Gilligan handled it and we made the kick.

To me I'm more afraid of them doing what they did because we're only up 6, than going to OT.

The BIG mistake was not going for 2 earlier of course

This was the flag on Tipp where we ended up 3rd and 4 at the end of the game

A Viking fan friend of mine insists someone on the right side of our OL moved first and you can't see it in the video. I can't check if she's right or not but my response was well the refs called it on 87 and the official play by play says it was on him, so going off what they said do you agree the Viking player was in the neutral zone and she said yes.

I got no answers. Just throwing thoughts out there. Also, was he really more aggressive early in the season or was his conservative playcalling just beating fruit so no one noticed how conservative it was. See demercados 50 yard gallop on a draw with time running down before halftime a few games ago. Super conservative play call that resulted in a TD.

I think where I disagree with you most is your conflating going 70 yards for a TD and going 62 yards for a FG. First it’s 8 fewer yards and more importantly a 50 yard FG is much easier than actually punching in a TD.

We’ll just disagree.

I was bitching about that big time. Really, a day later IMO, it's the conservative coaching that is worst part of that. This mistake, not going for 2, not going for the TD on 4th..... damn. It's a harsh damn lesson to learn but I hope Gannon has learned it. The guy hangs on to TOs like we get points for not using them. He's the opposite of Kliff in that sense, and both extremes can hurt you.
