I know quite a bit about football and watching Williams showed me superior change of direction, burst, better hands out of the backfield, and better vision. Running backs aren't really difficult to evaluate once you compare them side by side.

So in one quarter of preseason football, against Raider 3rd and 4th stringers who will be cut next week, you were able to come to this conclusion?

Sounds like wishful thinking.

Tell that to Thomas Jones, Larry Johnson, and Frank Gore who all took multiple seasons to develop

I don't know them so why would I want to tell them anything? Gore ran for 1600+ yards in his second season? Larry Johnson only had 2 good seasons. Thomas Jones played for Dave McGinnis.

False.

Larry Johnson had 1700 yards in his third season in 2005, but average over 4 yards per carry both previous seasons. Oh and he was behind some guy named Priest Holmes in the previous two seasons, one of which Holmes gained 1400 yards.

Frank Gore totaled over 1600 yards in his second season and averaged 4.8 yards per carry his rookie season.

Thomas Jones played for a terrible Cardinals team for a coaching staff that valued a pumped up wife beater over a more talented back in Jones. He succeeded in the first legitimate system he landed in.

Porkchop and Womack have both been less than impressive. Deuce needs to shed that weight in a hurry.

None of those qualities I described are affected by the level of competition that you are playing against.

You can add Darren McFadden to the list of backs who took a couple of years to learn the NFL game.

I don't see what Darren McFadden has to do with Beanie Wells falling down every time he tries to change direction.

You could accept that he came from the Wild Hog offense in Arkansas and battled injuries his first two seasons. Also I have watched Darren McFadden and Chris Wells is no Darren McFadden. McFadden is probably one of the top athletes in the NFL, Wells is not.

Beanie has looked good thus far in the preseason, runs in a similar style to McFadden and has struggled with the same aspects of the game in his first couple of seasons

And McFadden turned out quite well

Not lost is the fact that Bartel got some playing time with the #1 offensive line.

Both have struggled with injuries, but their respective games are not even close nor is their athletic ability. Wells struggles because he is not athletic enough to change direction suddenly which prevents him from making players miss and from hitting cutback lanes at full speed. McFadden struggles with timing and physicality which causes him to hit holes before they open and try and bounce plays outside when he should plant and drive up field. Totally different games.
