Copy/paste from another thread.

Not my first options, but like it.

Former 2nd rounder. Not a world-beater. Just solid starter. Better run defender than pass-rusher. Overall solid 2nd DT in rotation.

Pff has him as ranked #32 of interior overall and better than several of the players already gone, but all the money is being thrown at DTs with pass-rushing skills, which is probably why his market wasn't as hot.

I like this so much much more than throwing 20M at Jonathan Allen, where you are paying for past performance and potential of him returning to that level.

What I love about this is what multiple here point out - draft flexibility. Where we are drafting in both 1st and 2nd should be perfect for a solid pool of Edge, OL and DT. Draft BPA at both. Tomlinson is solid enough to ensure we are not forced to draft a DT if Edge and OL are BPA at those spots.

Good signing. The money seems a little high for an older dude who plays 60% of the snaps, but he is a proven player who fills a big need.

Here’s what I like about this move the most… outside of it being a solid move on its own, it shows Monti isn’t afraid to move on from possible prior mistakes in FA like it looks like he made at DT last offseason.

Best minds are those willing to admit they’re wrong. And I’m happy to admit Sweat and Thomlinson are more than I expected to get in FA.

At this point in his career is he comparable to Javon Hargraves and Jonathan Allen? Allen got $17MM per year, Hargraves got $15MM and Tomlinson is getting $14.5MM.

Personally, I do not believe it precludes drafting a DT in round 1. If BPA is a DT, then pull the trigger. Tomlinson is older and this is a two year deal. It might wind up that Jones or Nichols gets released after one year. Which in a weird way, I would see as a positive from Monti.

That said, we do not HAVE to draft DT or any other position really at #16.

Yeah, this works!

The main thing left to address in free agency, IMO, is an OG. And we are not taking an G at #16.
We could. The by far highest rated OL in the draft is rumored to be slipping because of his measurements and a believe that he cannot play blindside.

If Will Campbell is there, he might be BPA at #16.

But 100% agree that a G needs to be added

Tomlinson was the biggest contract the current Browns GM Andrew Berry has ever given out & Browns fans/reporters seem confused/mad that he was cut. Did we finally wind up on the good end of a bad franchise decision?
When was he released. Seems like the other DTs were signed first and we got 3rd or 4th best.

That is debatable, at best, when you don't know who else is going to be there. I know he is decorated with prizes and all that. But in my PERSONAL opinion is he is overrated. I just saw him get beat too often. Everyone will get beat I know.... I am just not excited about him. And now it seems what I saw is coming out in his draft evaluation.

He is actually rates higher than both. BUT! He is more well-rounded in both run and pass defense. Seems like the money is being thrown at the pass-rushing skills more than run-stuffing.

Of course that is debatable. That is why it's a message board.

Do not have time to follow college ball due to work and kids, so only quoting the podcasts I listen to.
