[font=Arial, Helvetica]INDIANAPOLIS -- The Arizona Cardinals, in search of a veteran quarterback, will make a strong push to sign two-time MVP Kurt Warner this week, according to a league source.

Advertisementhttp://ad.doubleclick.net/click;h=v...ON/go/cbsskvon0300000465von/direct/01/8033070http://ad.doubleclick.net/click;h=v...ON/go/cbsskvon0300000465von/direct/01/8033070http://ad.doubleclick.net/jump/imus...vip=no;sz=300x250;tile=7;ord=933891109462491? Warner, who exercised an out in his contract with the New York Giants in order to become a free agent, wants to go to a team that would make him the starter, which is a role the Cardinals can give him.

Josh McCown, Arizona's starting quarterback in 2004, did get a qualifying offer from the Cardinals this week as a restricted free agent. He received the highest tender of $1.4 million, which will essentially keep him on the roster.

McCown also has high praise from coach Dennis Green, although he hit on just 57 percent of his passes last year while throwing 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. McCown was benched for a time in favor of Shaun King.

Green has had success in his career with veteran quarterbacks, including Brad Johnson and Randall Cunningham with the Minnesota Vikings, which is why the source indicated the Cardinals would move in the Warner direction.

Much of the talk here at the NFL's scouting combine has Warner ticketed to Chicago to play for the Bears, but it appears the Cardinals are willing to make a push to keep that from happening.

At 33, Warner started nine games for the Giants last year, going 5-4 before being replaced by rookie Eli Manning. Giants coach Tom Coughlin said at the combine that he strongly believes Warner can still be an effective starter.

If he does sign with the Cardinals, Warner would be throwing to a heck of a receiving group in Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin and Bryant Johnson. The Cardinals will add a top back in the draft, possibly with their first-round pick.

Warner led the St. Louis Rams to Super Bowls in 1999 and 2001, winning the first one

Wow. This is kinda shocking. I thought we heard awhile ago that we had no intreast in signing him?

I'm really not sure how I feel about this yet.

Yeah same here, they said they had no interest at all in Warner. Maybe it was a smoke screen for what I don't know. I would rather have a lot of guys here but if we get him I will support him. Brenda, Bickley, and Jureki could have a mornig show together.

And I thought McCown held on to the ball too long?! Seriously Warner is better than King...but that isn't saying much...

Well, first of all, this could be a bogus report instigated by Warner's agent.

That said, I don't see this as a bad move UNLESS he's guaranteed to start. I mean, can Brad Johnson be all that much better? At least Warner won a few games last year.

One thing you can't argue with is Green's success with older veteran QB's...Warren Moon was 37 or 38. Randall Cunningham was working at his tile company and in his mid 30's. Jeff George was 30 something and only had success in the run and shoot in Atlanta.

If Green wants Warner...then I am very very excited.

I don't know I just read this part again, and if thats the only reason it might be bogus. Denny likes Veteran QB's and Warner is a Vet so it must be happening.

On a positive note (depending on your POV with this issue), Warner would of had a heck of alot more TD's if the Giants recievers knew hot to break a single tackle. Take from that what you will.

Green has had sucess with vets in the past. So I will go along for the ride on this one (if true).

He couldn't be any worse than Blake and King. But I have a feeling the league source is probably somebody with a screen name.

He could be the 16th different QB to start for AZ since 1992. The 6th since 2002.

Rosenbach,Chandler,Buerlein,Schroeder,McMahon,Kreig,Esiason,KGraham,Case,Plummer,Brown,Blake,McCown,King,and Navarre. :(

Bring him on. He is better than what we have and has a record to prove it.

Bring him on. The guy can still play. He didnt have the WR's like we have here while in NY, plus even without Shelton our Oline is better then theirs.

I have been asking all along, how can Warner be any worse than Johnson or Garcia, look at last years numbers. Garcia had an awful year. Its not like the sacks were all Warners fault. And he is younger than the others. Then look at 1998, a "washed up" Randall Cunningham leads Greens team to the highest season point total in NFL history.

Warner is a risk, but...

if he comes through, and I think he can, we are a serious playoff contender next season. He can make our offense potent in a very short time. If he comes through.

Bring him in. If Warner went thru what he did last year to be the starter, bring him in, I think Josh can beat him out, yeah bring in the rammer.

We're gonna have to get a few more linemen in before this sounds anywhere near good for us.!

For that matter we need a good OL no matter who is QB. But the QB is an important piece of the puzzle too. At least Warner should be able to get the ball downfield to the receivers better. But it should be a competition to see who starts. I will lose interest if its another guaranteed start for McNown.

Considering Denny Green's success with "wash-upped" QBs I would be very pleased to see Kurt Warner play for the Cards. He will have Q, Fitz, and most probably a good RB (Henry, Brown or Williams)... and Denny Green.

If Green can go to the play offs with Salsbury and some of the others, isn't Kurt F'ing Warner worth a shot? I just hope whoever the Cards sign as a vet QB, they make him earn a starting job. I'm a Josh backer and think he will step up big time this year. He's either going to fly or crash this year. I think he will step up dramatically. He was a slow starter in college, and in his 2 first years as a pro.

Shuesters.

P.S. Please don't hate me because I stated my opinion... consider the source. :p

And that goes to show exactly how bad their oline really was last year. We have to get a few more olinemen and we still have a better oline then they did.

Yeah, that line was pretty awful. They where certainly better run blockers than pass protectors (sp?). Davis, Wells and Step (as a unit) are better than anyone on their roster (ok, maybe that's going too far... Maybe...)

It would certainly be quite the story for Warner to be be sucessful here after his sucess with the Rams.

Warner leading the Cardinals to victory over the Rams in St. Louis would certainly burn the butts of Rams fans.
