Lets face it, even our coach doesn't expect Palmer to last the season. I still don't expect him to make it all the way through our first game. Just have this feeling as stated in the poll.

If that was the case... we would be trading for someone with more experience :)

I wanted to draft Barkly in 2013. He aint as good as Leinart before Denny and Whiz ruined Matty 1. both were great in a pro style offense. If Tom Moore would have worked with Leinart he would have done more than commercial with the manning family.

But I got Barkly graded at 79 with upside - downside is we still don't have an engine on offense - without a bell cow back - we will pass ourselves to death again. like a manure spreader going across the field kicking the crap out of ourselves. We got great backs but aint no Edge or Beanie that took us to the playoffs with hope. qB is not as important imo.

DA Got 2 more years HA HA. Mcowns still winging it - and you guys blew me up when I graded Mcown over Jeff Blake.

Barkley has just average size and arm strength, but outstanding leadership skills. He did not get good protection in 2012, which brought up concerns about his average mobility and athleticism. However, he is one of the more polished products from the quarterback class, coming from the USC pro-style system that relied on getting through progressions. When able to throw with rhythm and timing, he has the anticipation and accuracy to succeed and develop into an adequate starter.

How he fits:

On one hand, this did not look like a critical need because the Eagles already have Michael Vick, Nick Foles and Dennis Dixon. But with a new coaching staff, you get the feeling Chip Kelly would like to develop his own guy. Although it would appear that Barkley doesn't fit the skill set that Kelly prefers his quarterbacks to have, Barkley is a very cerebral player and should be able to run the high volume of plays and make adjustments on the run, which this offense demands.

demands.

It will shock no one that I really like this move. Think people are too deep in the Logan Thomas/Phillip Sims forest to see through trees.

I'm not going to elaborate as the high probability is he doesn't work out, but putting my stake in the ground as a move I like and and one that maybe, just maybe could mean something for the org down the road.

Yes I think he's a better #3 for This season then Loganiz. And yes I think there's a better chance he's the guy down the road then Logan/Sims.

Besides who knows better then BA? Agreed I never thought we would get Barkey because he doesn't seem to fit BAs profile (I really wanted to spend a 3rd or 4th on him when he came out) but this also makes me think back to in that draft how others said "Barkley wouldn't get past #8" (where Cardinals drafted) which was/is laughable but seems like we did have interest.

Maybe this is a Kiem move? Hes telling BA hey have you your guy with Logan now let me try maybe?

I dunno. It's certainly nothing to be up and arms about and maybe he's insurance in case Sims/Thomas don't clear waivers and this is all for naught.

But damn do I love me some USC Qbs lol

He had a shoulder separation at USC and never seemed to have as strong an arm after.

Coming out of HS people thought he had a good to very good arm, coming out to the NFL arm strength was listed as questionable by most.

He is not a great player but he's a smart kid, you won't have to take away 2/3 of the offense if you have another disaster and have to play your #3 QB. He'll pick up the offense.

Totally on the last part. I remember reading some quotes on him by Carroll as a freshman about his leadership/intangibles/brain.

Seems to me that any discussion of Barkley's impact on the field is premature. He was brought in, first and foremost, as an insurance against losing both Sims and Thomas through waivers. The trade was designed for a quick dump at no cost. If one is signed to the PS, the countdown on Barkley's stay begins as it seems evident they want to carry 2 QB's on the 53.

This makes no sense. If they have to use a roster spot for Barkley why wouldn't they just use that spot for LT instead?

I think Barkley has possibilities for the Cardinals. I know he hasn't set the world on fire, but he is smart enough to learn BAs offense in a reasonable amount of time. For the cost to get him I'm okay with this gamble. Maybe he ends up a late bloomer.

I looked through the link of FA qb's I posted, and didn't see one that was 24 years old with Barkly's potential - Smart keim and scout trust move- accuracy matters- just cause Logan can toss it through a wall - so could Mcown, he had wheels too!

I still wish we would have got Hyde or Hill, waited for JB on the Logan pick - but we is what we is.

I think the lack of good UFA QBs next year is a great point! I also think that if Barkley works out, BA&SK won't have to draft a QB early next year, if they have greater needs and BPAs.

This trade was made because, after watching the Raiders game and the OL, BASK knew they would need a 3rd QB some time this season and putting in Logan/Sims is not going to get it done.

I'm tired of Cardinals 3rd string QBs who really have no business being on the field. Lindley, Bartel, Hall, etc. 3rd string QBs are not QOF. I had hoped they picked up a McCown, a McCoy, a Hasselback, a Vick, or somebody this offseason who has played in the NFL before. I like the Barkley pickup.

The premise is really quite simple.

The Cards "in the end" want 2 QB's on the 53, not 3.

They picked up Barkley as insurance against losing Sims or Thomas to a waiver claim.

If either is signed to the Cards PS, they are in a position to dump Barkley at no cost.

Make sense now?

(Further... when Massie comes off suspension they are going have to drop somebody)

How long have you been a Cardinals fan? You could easily change "3rd string" in your sentence to "first string" for a majority of this teams existence.
