Hello DBackers.....

I was wondering if anyone could provide insight into Quinton. I am a sox fan and he has been awesome for us so far and looks like he could become our full time left fielder. Great arm and power to boot...... why was he traded?

It doesnt make sense to the average fan right now but its tough to crack a rotation of Upton, Young and Byrnes. He deserved to be a starter and he had a tough year last year.

I just wish we would have gotten more for him.

Carlos Quentin -- has a number of fans here who are watching him in Chicago with high hopes for his future; I know some of us were totally bummed Eric Byrnes was given that ridiculous contract since it meant CQ had to be moved. Moorad strikes again.

In double-A I think it was, Carlos hit the second longest HR recorded in the league (after Mike Piazza). He was streaky at the plate, though. He has no fear of being HBP, and his OBP reflected that. He's fast and accurate as a right fielder, and we felt like we had finally found our long-term answer for RF. Sigh. But no, we move Justin Upton from SS to CF to RF against his wishes and make our natural RF a bench player (as if that would help his injured shoulder or his confidence...)

CQ is very smart, polite, introverted, and unfortunately, extremely self-critical. Many of us were really hoping he'd see a sports psychologist, because between his injuries and the screwy way the D-Backs 'develop' new talent (see: Justin Upton, Conor Jackson) you could tell he was getting very frustrated and discouraged. So despite our unhappiness to lose him, there was no question he needed and deserved a new environment. Our GM hinted at that, and CQ said so himself. Keeping him here fourth in line for the OF would have been criminal. He's ready to either prove he's got it, or not. I hope he explodes on the scene for you guys.

My brother played with Carlos at Stanford and I consider him a friend. I was disappointed that he was traded because I loved watching him. He is a streaky hitter. He has a ton of power but can sometimes look silly against pitches out of the zone.

He doesn't have terrible speed, but he isn't going to steal 40 bases in a season either.

He had surgery on his shoulder after college and I have yet to hear of any ill-effects from that procedure.

He is a good guy. A little cocky, but he is a great addition to any clubhouse. I am happy to see that he is starting off right in Chicago. He can be a headcase when he goes into a slump.

With Carlos you either get feast of famine. I think he will do great things for you.

he has mental issues. last year he lost any form of confidence in both the field and more importantly at the plate. He gets real down on himself when he does something poorly and he bleeds negativity when that is happening. that said, i think he is a great player with a decent future ahead of himself, however i dont seem him playing in any allstar games or winning any championships. He had to go, especially with the future hall of famer Justin Upton waiting on deck.

The guy your guys traded us, from what I understand was a pretty signifcant piece in the Haren deal...

There was talk that during early talks, one of the pieces the A's GM wanted was this DH/1st Basman from the Sox.... And Brynes was told if he could find a way to get him and include him in the deal, the Haren deal was basically done...

At the time of the trade, it made NO SENSE for the Dbacks, considering they don't use a DH, but now, it makes total sense...

Quinton is a good player, but lacks consistancy, and was never going to be a regular starter in Arizona... so we basically turned Quinton and Carlos Gonzalez into Dan Haren....

His first year with ARZ was good. If I remember right, he got the call up to the Majors in Summer (I think late June/early July) of 2006 and he did good then. He really hit some bombs for homeruns and has a gun of an arm.

In 2007, he suffered from Scott Hairston syndrome IMO, he just didn't get enough time to develop. Like Laxman said, he would crush the ball everytime he got up there. Unfortunately most of the time he hit some mile high pop-ups or really hard ground outs, but when he learns to hit...

He seems to be doing good so far in the three W.Sox games I've watched this season, I wish him the best!

Carlos is playing like the player the Diamondbacks thought he would be. Too bird they made a hasty decision on Byrnes last year. I would of loved to see a Quinton, Young and Upton outfield.

The trade worked out for both teams, giving us pieces that got us Haren, who is more valuable, IMHO.

I like his hustle and personality. I guess I'm in the minority here, but I like Byrnes most of the time.

I do miss watching Quinton kill the ball every now and then though, damn he hit some bombs.

I don't remember him ever hitting it as far as some of the shots Byrnes has hit.

He hit good ones in 06, after his call up. Not too many in 07, the one that sticks out is one he hit off Jorge Julio after we traded Julio to the Rockies, that one almost hit Fridays.

I think you may be thinking of the wrong guy. He bats right handed and all the homers I remember went to right field and Fridays is in left field. For him to pull it and almost hit Fridays would be near impossible. I think Barry is the only one who pulls like that.

Carlos Q-U-E-N-T-I-N had enormous power all through the minors. He hit a couple long HR for us, too. He deserved a chance to start every day and get a rhythm -- it could maybe have happened here if he hadn't injured his shoulder to start last season, although our penchant for platooning guys has hurt young players more than helped. Give Conor some stability as the everyday player, and he's also blossoming into the player many of us predicted all through the minors.

I am ecstatic for Carlos; he's finally healthy and with a team and manager that will let him grow into his on-field role without constantly jerking him around.

Like I said at the time, I would have much preferred to extend O-Dog, and to stick with Quentin instead of Byrnes. Really the only obvious mistake that Byrnes has made, and still not a huge mistake.

why is every one so upset about carlos not being here? He has no spot and we traded to help get a prospect that we traded to get a bigger need in Haren. I would take haren anyday over carlos.
