Yep... I'm from back east (Greenwich, CT). Played football in high school and our mascot was the Cardinals. I graduated in 1982. Coming here to AZ was great for a ton of reasons, not least of which was that the Arizona Cardinals wore the exact same uniforms as what I wore in high school!!
My claim to fame is that I played ball (since we were kids) with Steve Young. Steve graduated 2 years a head of me... However, when I was playing JV in 10th grade, our coach would often have us scrimmage the varsity team whenever he felt we were getting too big for our britches (we went 11 & 0 that year). I played safety and weighed 170 pounds soaking wet... Steve was of course the QB and at that time, our varsity team ran the wishbone offense, whcih essentially meant Steve would take the snap and outrun everyone to the endzone. He was always bigger, stronger and faster than most kids through high school. One rainy day, we scrimmaged varsity and Steve took the snap, ran around the end and was about to rip off another long TD run. I stepped up from my safety position and tried (in vain) to tackle him... all I remember is putting my head down and his knee popping me in the helmet and then, nothing but a big blue star... I think I was out for 15 seconds or so... and ended up with Steve's cleat-marks down the front of my jersey...
Probably more than you bargained for there Reddog... sorry...
