I strongly believe the reason both Budenholzer and Fizdale have withdrew from candidacy is because Sarver lowballed them entirely.

I don’t get it, if he doesn’t want to spend $$ on this team to see it improve and become a contender someday then WHY EVEN OWN THE TEAM??

Why not sell it to somebody who doesn’t mind spending on the coach and GM to help build the team??

Someone like Joe Lacob who told the Warriors GM “Use my $$ how much ever you need to bring in the best HC and then spend whatever it is necessary to bring in the best assistant coaches for him as well”.

Seriously, Robert Sarver is the worst thing to ever happen to the Suns.

Here is a fact that will never change...under Sarver’s tenure as owner, the Suns have always been the team’s that’s bottom 2 in the league in wages paid to their front office and coaching staff.

Has it actually been confirmed yet that Fizdale bowed out or is it just rumors?

If so, we’re talking about a college coach who’s never even made the tournament, a pro coach coming off a 25 win season and another pro coach who got fired after 1.25 seasons ALL say thanks, but no thanks.

I’d think at this point that SOMETHING needs to change in the front office to give the Suns at least a SHRED of credibility and Sarver ain’t gonna fire himself. If I was him, I’d bite the bullet on McD, hire an NBA emissary like Memphis and the Warriors did years back with West or the Sixers did with Colangelo (maybe a Nash?) or someone VERY respected to be the GM and start the process over, throw a TON of money and promise control to, because THIS is embarrassing.

And yet he took that Clipper team just as far as Rivers ever did.

Yup, its been a sad state of affairs the past four years. The Sterling disaster, CP3 meltdown against OKC, the blown 3-1 lead to the Rockets. Clippers had two amazing opportunities to advance to the conference finals. They blew both of them.

The hilarious part is that Doc's best coaching job (outside the Sterling fiasco) was this season... By far.

Kenny Smith is apparently up for the Knicks coaching job. Haven't heard anything tying him elsewhere but they've talked about him interviewing with the Knicks on Inside the NBA. I don't know what sort of coach he'd be but I'd miss him on Inside the NBA. He is a big part of that show and since Shaq has been added they need Kenny to keep the show on track with Chuck and Shaq tossing barbs at each other constantly.

That is 100% a Knicks hire. I dont think they can even screw up that massively.

I can hear Sarver's pitch now:. Come to Arizona and coach the Suns! Not only will I make you the lowest paid coach in the league, but it hits 120 in the Summer and our politicians are bat poo crazy!"

Nice. Honestly though. If they hire Kidd, I will find it very difficult to be interested in the Suns any more. I am not sure there is anything worse they could do to disillusion me as a fan.

Triano would be worse only because it probably means they couldn't find ANYONE willing to even touch this team.

I find all the criticism a bit odd. They told us from the beginning that they were going to do a broad search and interview tons of people. That is exactly what they have done. Also, no other team has hired a coach yet so it isn’t like the Suns are dragging their feet. I may end up being critical of the final selection but I have zero problem with the process so far.

Kidd took a 15-win Bucks team and won 41 games the next year. There’s no telling if he’ll eventually clash with ownership again so it’s risky.

Maybe. Or the Suns job just isn't as enticing as NY, Milwaukee, and potentially Portland. I know we all hate Sarver but I can't believe he'd be dumb enough to bring in Bud, knowing what he earns with Atlanta, with the intention to lowball him.

Although the fact that Sarver is the owner is one of the big reasons Phoenix isn't as enticing as the other openings. That's definitely true.

Unfortunately, "the process" involves a Managing General Partner who has a piss poor reputation and evidently proves it and the potentials pull out.

Bud is the only one to pull out so far and who knows his reasons. It might of been because Sarver is idiot, but we don’t know that for sure (well, we know he’s an idiot, we just don’t know if that’s why Bud backed out). Maybe Bud is just a high maintenance baby who threw a fit when we wanted to interview someone else before giving him the job on a silver platter... For the moment we really don’t know what happened.

Majerle declined to work for Sarver as well. And it was reported today by Gambo and few people on RealGM mentioned it too that’s Fizdale has withdrew as well.

They can’t all be “high maintenance babies”.

Some people on RealGM is not a sufficient source. I'll wait until Bordow says something about Fizdale pulling out. It could be true but I could also register an account there and say the Suns had a secret interview with Coach K and they're looking to hire him and it would have as much credibility as the Fizdale rumors on there. I haven't seen Gambo put out anything about Fizdale recently, just that the Suns should be finished with their first round of interviews this week.

Are you sure Gambo reported that Fizdale had withdrawn? The only thing I saw/heard was the random realgm poster from Atlanta that said “he heard it”.

I guess I'm in the minority but I like Triano just fine. I dont think having a big name head coach is that big a deal in the NBA. Just someone who can relate to players better than some of our last coaches and FO personnel have.

Bordow is the very last person to break Suns news. As a matter of fact, he doesn’t break news, he merely “confirms” what guys like Woj, Stein, Gambo etc report hours before.

If you’re waiting for Bordow, you’ll be waiting a long time.
