Best part is that behind those two is Andre Ellington and Elijhaa Penny (I am going to go all Mitch and say we will carry 5 RBs because this guy is worth keeping), with Stephan Taylor as the lunch pail backup and K Williams on PS for emergencies.

Our RB depth is starting to look like our WR depth.

Nah, Stephen taylor is a terrible running back, he has only made the team due to special teams. If Penny makes the team it will be because he is adequate at special teams and can take his place.

There is no way we can afford to carry 5 rb's. No team in today's nfl should carry five unless two or more are injured.

I am curious what kind of workload chris johnson gets. Personally if I was coach he would never see the field unless there was an injury to DJ - I would rather use ellington as the change of pace back. I hope he does not become a distraction like he did on the Jets if he is stuck on the bench.

Then again, I never would have resigned him for more than the vet min if that, so the cardinals must think more highly of him then I do.

chris johnson is way, way, waaaay more effective at his role than AE ever was or will be.

CJ hits holes better than any cardinal RB I've seen in many years

Right, exactly. He and DJ will split the load and every once in awhile Ellington will catch a screen pass and make everyone miss for a 50 yard TD.

The years of the 1,500 yard workhorse are over, and if you want DJ to be that guy, he will be worn out by playoff time. You run 2-3 guys in a rotation the entire year and keep them fresh, they're the guys on offense taking the most pounding, and generally with the shortest careers for a reason. I don't see a problem with spreading out the load of running, in a 60/40 pass/run offense like we have, over 3 backs.

Yeah, you are correct, I thought they carried 5 in 2014, but it was an injury situation (just like last year). So Penny and Williams to the PS unless Penny outplays Taylor (which is possible this year as it's Taylor's contract year)

Could you imagine how it would be if the NFL went to an 18 game schedule?

Barring injury I don't think juke will get over 5 touches a game on average with 90%+ going to dj/CJ.

Apparently you didn't watch the first half of the season last year. CJ was our running game. Best we've had in some time. He is part of the reason why we went 13 & 3 last year. Why would you want one of the best rb's we've had in years sit on the bench?

No kidding. We've gone multiple seasons with our entire RB group not breaking off as many big runs as CJ did in an injury shortened season. CJ has "it" when it comes to vision and burst. Arians loved the guy so much that he was going to play in the Super Bowl had we beat Carolina. The idea he won't see the field unless DJ is hurt is just wrong IMO.

You want a good balance of touches for everyone. It's a long season you want to keep everyone as healthy as you can for the playoffs.

Who knows, but Ellington and Johnson were friends last season. When either one scored, the other guy was almost always the first off the bench to congratulate them.

I watched it, if you look at his production it faded fast in his last 4 games, I was not disappointed when he got injured because David Johnson looked like a superior player from game one and deserved his carries.

In my opinion he just isn't a very good back anymore, it seems most of you disagree.

Don't forget that Arians and Keim also disagree with your opinion. If they felt the way you do about CJ he would not have been re-signed.

no doubt age caused cj to slow down around halfway through the season...which is why this season we will see him play a more reduced role, sharing carries with DJ...it would do well for the team to keep CJ fresh, his experience and game savvy could be valuable come playoff time

I would like to see both Johnsons get 10-15 touches each every game. 25-30 run plays per game, more if they are ripping off some good gains in those 25-30 carries. AE would get at most 3-5 touches and maybe see 3-5 passes his way. Talk about wearing down a defense.

My annual RB rant is back, BA pulled a Whiz again in the playoffs 81 passes to 35 runs - yes we were less effective against top playoff defenses but damn it you cant do that- Ba wants to take a shot and a shot and a shot - what shot do we got when Palmer forces the stupid ball and has 6 interceptions? and the fumbles?

Now I like the aggression but has to tempered with solid fundamentals and the Cardinal Virtues in my signature below. the coaches fundamentals in play calling not the players are out of whack - as and old Army Combat Engineer - If I lead my squad like BA leads this Squad- need more toe tags and body bags, earn the shots you take - set them up- establish a balance a sound normal, then execute the big plays at a high percentage.

Best said in 2nd part of author unknown

He who turns and runs away- may live to fight another day! BUT - BUT- BUT
He who stands and is then slain- will never rise to fight again!!!!!!!
