I hope to see Justin Upton and Mark Reynolds follow in his footsteps by next season.

The three of them, along with Montero, could all be All Star candidates. And along with Brandon Allen hopefully developing into a solid power-hitting 1B and maybe the return of Johnson beyond one year and a solid Drew, that could be quite an impressive starting lineup. Add the names Gillespie, Ryal or even Parra in LF, and there would no easy out from top to bottom.

And, on some days, not even the #9 spot.

This certainly puts CY in a good position for comeback player of the year.

I think he pretty much has that wrapped up.

:fans: I was so happy to find out he made it this morning. This season has been a rough one, but at least we have this bright spot and still a solid roster for the future.

Now let's rally and beat the Dodgers!

Chris Young is going to participate in the home run derby this year.

He is more deserving but I'd rather see Reynolds hit the ball about 500 feet.

IMO the winner should be the guy who hits it the furthest.

Objectively speaking, does MLB want to showcase a player who is hitting .213 and beats his own strikeout records every year?

No matter how much we want to see Reynolds succeed, that's not good marketing. Which is what the All Star HR contest is.

Agreed.

BUT, isnt the home run derby there to showcase the best HR hitters in the game?

In that context, yes.

But is it good for MLB to encourage kids playing Little League to swing from the heels? From a moral point of view, I would say . . . no.

It's a tough call.

On that point I think its the coaches/parents jobs to tell their kids that homeruns are fine BUT you dont have to swing for the fences everytime.

I agree it is a tough call because everybody digs the longball, just ask Randy.

Really!?!?

They let players chew tobacco on the field. Why would anybody care about this?

(A) I do.

(B) Joe G, Sr., does.

Two wrongs don't make a right. :)

When was the last time you saw a baseball player go Ron Artest? I can think of one time in my life and he was a pitcher.
