Yeah, I am not sure what we have left to get Lillard with - or anyone else of consequence for that matter.

I'm not sure what a package of: Warren, one of Jackson/Bridges, one of Melton/Okobo, maybe Chandler gets you. No more Miami pick to trade. Our own pick will have lesser value.

The bottom line for me is that unless there is another trade coming, we are basically looking at giving major minutes this season to a trio composed of Anderson, Ariza, and Harrison. Frankly, that is garbage and makes us a LOT worse in the long run. We are much better off playing JJ, Bridges, and Okobo (or Melton) starters minutes, taking our lumps in the process and getting a head start on building our long term fortunes.

Any plan that includes depending on three essentially lousy role players for the next one (or even possibly two) seasons is a waste of time and resources and reverses any positive momentum you might be building for the future.

Why is Anderson deserving of "major" minutes? He wasn't deserving in Houston, and here he's just a 30-year-old who fits with the youth movement even less than Ariza does (not to say Ariza is dead weight--his defense is a big deal for this team).

Yeah, I don't get that either - but that seems to be the going speculation - that the Suns are looking at Anderson and Ariza as their starting forwards next year. I can't accept that they would be that stupid, either... but this is a franchise with a recent history of abject stupidity in personnel matters.

Yeah, Anderson is a guy that couldn't get the start over PJ Tucker in Houston. And in fact, D'Antoni had removed him from the rotation completely.

And now we want him to start? On a team built on a youth movement? There is no need for him to start--because I think even now, Bender should get the start. If we're going to stick with him, we need to develop him. Not going to happen behind a non-factor like Ryan Anderson. Ariza, and yes, even Devin Booker, are plenty vets in the starting lineup.

Was the main objective to just unload Knight and this is the best deal they could find? If so is this deal better than just buying out BK?

This isn't looking so bad now after I've slept on it.

This deal was all about getting Chriss and Knight out of that locker room in my opinion.

Well. Sidery loved it. He sure like Melton. We do see a pattern. The Suns are moving toward two-way players at every position surrounding Booker.

Just as an aside. The thread on the RealGM trade board about this trade is trending in favor of Phoenix in the comments but not the poll. The change in the second year for Ryan seems to be swinging it.

There is a lot of positive thought about Melton.

Perhaps another trade is coming? I don't know this Melton guy. Ryan Anderson is now taking minutes from Bender (which might be a good idea?). He's a veteran at least. Are we getting even more Rockets?

Are Chriss and Knight that big of losses? Based on what we've seen, no, they're not.

Amen to that.

We passed on Melton 3 times and everyone passed on him once at this point. No need to shine it up.

Wonder how many of you would like to revisit the thread I made about McD getting fired in the offseason. He has been a disaster. Like "Googs" trade disaster. Like Amare (after microfracture) being announced as our 1st round pick that year. WTF MAN!

It's actually quite overwhelming how horrible this is from a talent and cap perspective. At least it's just 2 years.

Let's see what the corresponding move is.

Yeah that's another open question. He doesn't even have a contract yet.

The Suns could use Melton in a trade if he has not signed. It's another asset the Suns could use in a trade for a point guard.

They're unrelated issues. Chriss has been disappointing, Bender has been much worse. But Chriss has created problems with his attitude, Bender has no attitude. I believe we're at the point we'd like to move on from both of them but they have little to no value. And moving Chriss has greater urgency than moving Dorothy's Scarecrow.

Hit the nail on the head right there.

I'm guessing his value is what his draft position was: #46. Not great value no matter how good you think Melton could become. He's got to have some sort of number attributed to him in a trade--with no contract, we'd pretty much be trading our "rights' to him.

I think there is a lot of truth to this. It was an option to buying out Knight.

Suns fans would have been thrilled to get anything for Knight not long ago. He had negative value. I think we had gotten comfortable with keeping Knight as the Suns FO had convinced us and perhaps the Rockets he had value. Kudos to McDonough.

The Suns get rid of two players they didn't want in Knight and Chriss. At least they get two players in return who may be serviceable in Anderson and Melton.

Also Ariza is going to be a very attractive trade piece later in the season if the Suns are willing to part with him. A playoff team will want him at the trade deadline.

Usually when team trades a player they get a player at the same position in return. Melton or someone else could be that player in a trade.

There may be some team out there that values Melton's rights.
