Andre Ellington and Adrian Peterson are not good examples of players that could replace DJ. Andre's out of the league, and AP played all of what, three games for us?

Ellington didn't even break 700 yards rushing.

And I think we can all agree the scheme and coaching were terrible this year. Does it make any sense whatsoever in the situations that Edmonds was subbed in for DJ?

No, he wasn't dynamic as he was in years past, but he was also running behind an offensive line with zero starters.

Okay, but if David Johnson is SO MUCH MORE TALENTED, wouldn't there be a marginal improvement in performance? Like, a little?

Bad system/line is an excuse for underperformance against the rest of the league (although Phil Lindsay somehow managed to average 5.4 YPC), but why would Edmunds put up the same rate stats?

I don't think DJ is dumb by any means, but I can see that. I also think they wanted to prove they hit on a small school kid though.

I don't see why anyone would care about proving they hit ona small school kid and doing so by benching an all star potential player.

But I don't imagine DJ is dumb, just based on different things over the years, he does not absorb the playbook as well as others. BA commented on it plenty and even the play where they were running Edmunds instead of him on the goal line was due to missing assignments.

Y'know, honestly, I don't know why I'm even allowing us to say that he's got the same stats. Sure, the YPC is the same, but DJ's long is much longer, he had many more yards, he contributed way more in the passing game, and he put up 10 TDs to Edmonds' 2.

They're not really the same player at all when you look at the stats. Besides YPC, and that has a ton of factors.

Yes, it's very strange that when you give two players with the same rate stats different workloads, the guy with the bigger workload would get more yards.

Good lord...DJ will be just fine. If we don’t change a thing on offense I would bet we’d score 100 points more than last year. McCoy and Wilks brought a level of ineptness that is hard to believe.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean we can just say YPC is the only important thing. Is Phillip Lindsay the best back in the league because of his YPC? No.

DJ didn't look great, but even still, he did more with the opportunities given. You're not telling me there was a time this season where you were stumping for Edmonds to get more carries, are you?

No he did not. That's why their YPC stats are the same.

DJ is bigger than Edmonds and, looking forward, figures to present a bigger, more durable threat between the tackles...and a more ferocious presence bearing down on the DB on the outside after the catch.

I know, I know - Edmonds may have had better numbers a year ago, but part of that had to do with play calling and game situations. - I'd rather take my chances with DJ looking forward and feel he carries a more lethal punch than Chase. (Think Chase = Ellington and DJ = Edgerrin)

The Rams brought back 10 of 11 starters and the new addition was Cooks. Their starting 5 played all 16 games.

Do you think this may have contributed to Gurley's output?

What makes Johnson great is his ability in the open field. His ability to get to the open field on his own through weak blocking is probably not as good as Edmunds.

This is why I was constantly screaming to throw him the ball - that was how to negate the terrible oline and allow his special talent to work to our advantage, but it was done at a comically low rate.

With all due respect (which means "I don't agree, but don't hit me")...

What separates D Johnson from other RB's is freakish lower-leg strength to go with outstanding quicks, size, instincts and hands. (i.e. take away the lower leg-strength and you've got a bigger version of Chase Edmonds). & come to think of it, the lack of power may have gone hand in hand with his fall-off in production last year.

Someone is suggesting that the Cardinals should not throw “stupid” money at CJ Mosley.
