Not sure why Hazen/Lovullo keep trotting Montgomery out there with a 6.37 ERA. Just because you screwed up the signing in the first place is no reason to keep using him as a SP because you feel the need to "play the contract."

He’s actually been slightly better than decent in his most recent starts.
He missed all of Spring Training, so I imagine Torey is trying to give him the chance to work his way into form, which, looking at his last 3-4 starts, might be happening.

As others have said, Blaze Alexander has a locker in the Diamondbacks’ clubhouse. Alek Thomas does not.

When there were reports that teams were calling about McCarthy, I was saying to trade Thomas instead...and I'll stand by that. Should/could have moved him with some value.

Dbacks manager Torey Lovullo: Ketel Marte continues to get treatment and is day to day. Christian Walker is ramping up his activity. Alek Thomas sent down because the rhythm of his game wasn’t where team wanted it to be. Plus Jake McCarthy was taking away playing time.

There's more value in a lefty who destroys left handed pitching. That's much more rare than a speedy outfielder.
Adding WAR for Thomas on his career is 2.4, with 0.0 in 2024. Jake is 5.8 career and 2.6 in 2024. Some people love WAR stats.

Sure. I am just saying that it's not an either or. It's a both.
The real reality in this Alek Thomas v Jake McCarthy thing is that we probably need both. Druw Jones isn't exactly lighting up single A right now. He's probably 2-3 years out
