Yeah I don't know the logistics so I might be wrong but my guess is he just woke up one day and said I don't want to do this anymore.
Could be. I also wouldn't doubt that Gannon, Monti or someone else has been having conversations with him all along... reviewing performance and such. Also, if that Cameron Cox tweet means anything, then Colt knew before the game that he was done.

Being known as a place where vets know they will be given every opportunity to show they can play is a positive...

Nah... loyalty just dont mean poo these days.
Like they did with Hopkins? How about Simmons? How about Golden? You think the Budda Baker situation made AZ a place vets want to play? Vets get cut all the time, especially when new regimes come in. Come on.

Lol, good stuff Krango.

How about throwing a fifth rounder (the same round we picked a promising young QB and CB), for a guy who can't possibly be ready for the regular season, and who is a lesser prospect than the guy we JUST DRAFTED in the 5th round?

Incredible straw man though - have you seen anyone propose spending big on a QB?

Through the most cardinal-red eyes! :koolaid:

So, no chance.

Not even a teeny-weeny given that he's previously worked with both the OC and QB coach?

It looked the same. Practice clips, looked the same. Game snaps, looked the same. No noticeable difference which is why Gannon said it wasn't something he didn't do.

This might be shocking to you, but I'm going to guess coaches want to see players on the field before they make a decision about their career.

Ain't nobody here that manages people ever sacked a guy before they experienced working with him first.

Until we hear otherwise I'm assuming that it's likely Colt just told us he no longer wanted to play
Colt has $2.25 million reasons not to retire (his guaranteed 2023 salary)

i think if you retire -- you dont get that

i think that it became more and more clear with every practice that Colt just didnt have it anymore. His family gets a dog now -- and Colt gets his $2.25mm

Coly McCoy is a journeyman player who is 37. If the Cardinals needed to see "more" from him, they have poor self scouting. There is game film from last year. He is what he is, and his game is not going to suddenly get better.

Indecision or a lack of conviction around the QB position impacts everything. Your messaging to the team. The voice in the huddle. Timing and rhythm of the offense. All of it.

Once the draft ended and you had Tune and Blough on the roster, you cut Colt. If you really wanted Dobbs, you spend the extra 2 mil. At worst, you make Colt a camp advisor for Tune and Blough if you are worried about that.
Correct me if I’m wrong as I’m googling as much as my information as my little fingers can as I’m a tick behind on all the off-season threads:

Colt was in the 2nd year of his contract signed from last year(previous regime). At $3.5m why not give him a shot to be a temporary starter. David Blough isn’t exactly a generational talent to replace Colt with. If Tune was a flop and going to be cut before the season, we’d still need the services of McCoy even if he wasn’t a starter over Blough.

I think they did botch the Dobbs deal, but they saw an opportunity to improve the QB room and get a guy that both the GM and OC seem to like. If rumors are true and Kyler is gone after this year, why not go into next season with Tune, Dobbs, and next years 1.

This season is going to be a rough one, but that doesn’t mean we should send Tune out to the wolves and crush any confidence he has year 1 because we’re “tanking”. If Dobbs is awful bring Tune in to start. If Tune starts the season and is awful we have Dobbs ready to takeover.

I don't believe it is a far stretch to think a player would prefer, say, 2 mil more in salary and an almost guaranteed chance to start at least a couple games over less money and no chance to start at all in Cleveland.

The report says the Cardinals wanted him but couldn't get the finances in order.

These aren't big stretches of speculation.
Still speculation. You can infer all you want, but you have no proof that he didn't want more. With McCoy on hand and the chance that Murray might be activated in camp, it would have been dumb to throw money at Dobbs at that point.

Literally half your arguments are "I think X happened" which is exactly the same thing.
It's hilarious the lengths they go to criticize the organization. Absolute faulty logic, conjuring Bigfoot arguments to criticize the team. The team is already going to suck even with a Brissett or an other known quantity backup.

There is a difference between an asset and an older guy coming back from injury.
All those other guys still have it. Colt does not. Imo its the right move to give him the chance to prove that to himself.

It's not. It's literally the opposite. One is using informed speculation + evidence to make an affirmative point.

What you and Krang are doing is asking us to disprove a negative, which is logically impossible, and assumes the most exculpatory explanation as the baseline fact.

Saying "How do you know Dobbs didn't take less to play in Cleveland where he had a 0% chance to start when he could have come here to work with an exec who signed him a few months before and lead to his first two NFL starts and an OC and QB coach who worked with him 10 months ago????" isn't an argument.

Am I the only one wondering how you have to get “finances together” to sign a $2mill/year backup player?

Krang, he could’ve wanted 10 million. Doesn’t mean he and his agent don’t know his market value and he took it at $2 mill.

He’s on his 7th team since 2017. I doubt he’s making contract demands.

That comment meant there was a disconnect in what the player wanted and what the Cardinals wanted to pay him.

Ok. That doesn't mean that he would sign with the Cardinals for $2 million.

Every player makes contract demands. He literally was almost signed by another team.

Right. It's how conspiracy theories are created.

Speculation is followed by a mad search for anything that makes the argument plausible to some.

Technically 5th team, since he's been with Steelers and Browns each 2 times...lol

The dude is 37 years old and has never been able to stay healthy. The guy has game film. If this administration didn't know what it had in him than they are in over their heads. it's a completely different story if Colt decided he just didn't want to do this anymore.

LOL at evidence. He has presented NONE.

No we are saying is that everything you are saying is speculation that you treat as fact.
Saying "How do you know Dobbs didn't take less to play in Cleveland where he had a 0% chance to start when he could have come here to work with an exec who signed him a few months before and lead to his first two NFL starts and an OC and QB coach who worked with him 10 months ago????" isn't an argument.
It's called logic @kerouac9

Maybe he really likes living in Cleveland and would only sign with the Cardinals for $4 million. He then took the Cardinals offer of $2.5 million back to Cleveland who then said "We can't match that, but we will give you the security of guaranteeing the contract." That is a plausible scenario, but if I was to treat it as fact it would....<drumrolls> speculation.

Colt was hurt last season.
Maybe "Typical Colt McCoy" would have been acceptable. But older cant quite make it back from a bad elbow Colt McCoy isnt.
So they took the time to be sure which guy they had.

Either way. I wish the guy luck... broadcast booth or sidelines i know he will give it his best.

I don't think it's about game film or what they had....he was literally injured and I think had surgery on that elbow. They were most likely giving him every opportunity to get healthy and just show he could do the things they needed him to do.... unfortunately he couldn't. They were giving him rest days all camp long. (Which, btw, means Tune got a lot more reps with the 1s than people are realizing.) Colt also only played like 2 series in each of the 1st 2 games...giving Tune a ton of tune up.

I still think Gannon would probably prefer Dobbs, similar to why he preferred Colt vs Tune... probably doesn't want Tune to get overwhelmed on the road in Washington.
