DCR:

I'd submit that "getting to the playoffs" at 7-9, only to get beat like a drum once you're there, is nothing to build on. Walking off an opponent's field on the losing end of a lopsided score isn't the last memory you wanna take into the offseason.

In order to go 7-9, the Cardinals will have to win four in a row, beating two division leaders and two second-place teams. If they can pull that off, I think the Cards would be better served to end their season on a five-game win streak, quieting the San Diego fans with a convincing win over the playoff-bound Chargers. That's the way to springboard this team into 2007.

Of course, my greatest concern is that such a turnaround might somehow save Denny Green's job. But I'm willing to cross that bridge when/if we come to it. ;)

I'm with dave..
Even if we lose by 30 in the playoffs, just being there would be a huge springboard to the future. We have to first assume that we could beat Seattle, which we haven't done convincingly in quite sometime.

Look at the bright side we are going to get Joe Thomas if we stink the rest of the way

Do we really want to use a top 5 pick on a guy with a rehabbed knee and who thinks he's a reverse Fred Wakefield?

"the University of Wisconsin’s All-American left tackle, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee when he was injured during Monday’s Capital One Bowl, an MRI confirmed Friday.
“I will have surgery and begin the rehabilitation process as soon as possible,” Thomas said in a statement released Sunday. “I am looking forward to next season and I am anxious for our program to continue where it left off in Orlando. I want to thank all of our fans for their support of me and our team.”

Thomas injured the knee while playing on the defensive line midway through the third quarter of UW’s 24-10 win over Auburn. Thomas played a handful of snaps on defense, in addition to his offensive line responsibilities, to assist.... "

Between this board and the other one several of you have inquired about my whole formula that gets our Big Red into the post-season. Its crazy and far fetched but it works. Here you go:

Giants claim the 1st wildcard spot beating Panthers & Eagles in next 2 weeks.

Cardinals win out to become 7-9 with "5" NFC wins.

Panthers lose to Giants (6-7), lose to Steelers(6-8), then beat Falcons(7-8), then lose to Saints (7-9 with "5" NFC wins)

Eagles lose the next 4 games (Redskins, Giants, Dallas and Falcons) and fall to 6-10.

Falcons lose to Tampa Bay (6-7), lose to Dallas (6-8), lose to Panthers (6-9) and beat the Eagles (7-9 with "5" NFC wins)

A 3 team tie at 7-9 along with "5" NFC wins pushes everything to the 3rd tie-breaker- strength of schedule- which by the end of the season will give the advantage to the Cardinals who played the AFC West this season along with Dallas and the Bears. Also it wouldn't hurt to have one or two of the 4-8 teams also end up at 7-9 to ensure it goes to that 3rd tie-breaker.

Now you know what to root for this upcoming weekend. Cardinals are still alive!

One game at a time!
Tim

This is the kind of thing that once in a blue moon will happen to another team. It will never ever happen to the Cardinals...

Ok, after numerous scenarios, etc. Here it is for all of you to enjoy!
Going into this week for the Cardinals to remain mathematically alive for the playoffs the following must happen:

- NY Giants win at Carolina 1pm EST
- Tampa Bay win vs. Atlanta 1pm EST
- Redskins win vs. Eagles 1pm EST
- Cardinals win vs. Seahawks 4pm EST

We will know our fate prior to taking the field. Anything is possible if you believe!

Go Cards/ America!

I love this site. It's like Pandora's Box--the only thing left is hope. Everyone knows the Kook-Aid is poison-laced, but you can't help but drink it anyway.

I think its amazing enough that under this last scenario that we could go into the final week of the season still with a chance- ha ha. Gotta love this site!

Go Cards/ America!

Well this subject thread has been fun to discuss over the past week. A lot of math, a lot of calculations, etc. Maybe with a little miracle the Cardinals will remain mathematically alive for one more week and we can keep it going!

Go Cards/ America!

Someday soon threads like this, although really examples of positive thinking and nothing to be made fun of, won't be necessary at all or if we are looking at them it will be for homefield advantage, it will involve far fewer teams and it will be much more plausible.

Edge is right, Matt is the foundation and he will lead us to a Super Bowl, it won't be by the slightest of margins, it won't be a fluke, it won't take a miracle to pull off, it'll amaze us all by the relative ease with wich it occurs.

I hope we win out now, screw the draft choice just learn to win.
