When the running game is going, Seattle is very difficult to beat. Great defense as well...granted.

Russell Wilson was a 3rd rd pick and Doug Baldwin went undrafted. Who do they have on offense that has been a star? Washed up Jimmy Graham? They have certainly had one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL.

Interesting article on Bevell detailing his philosophy. Smash mouth running game that opens up big shots. That pretty much described Seattle's O. The question is...what is Wilks philosophy on offense?

I'd be stoked for this. Remember he was forced to start Sowell, for God's sake, and it was still working at the time.
I remember the Hawks being excited about signing Sowell. Have to hope this guy didn't have anything to with bringing him in. The Oline up there has been bad for awhile. Question is who would be the Oline coach?

Reading the Seahawks board during the season a lot of the fans wanted him to be fired. They got their wish.
Will be interesting to see if the Cards hire him how he does.
I just hope we get a damned OL coach worth something and upgrade the OL, particularly at Center.

Is this a Wilks invite or a MBSK invite?

Agree with Buckybird that Bevell got way more out of the Seahawk O roster than one would expect simply looking at the talent. All the Seahawk bucks went into their dominate D with the OL and WRs as afterthoughts.

Problem is our O talent has been build around a stationary pocket passer. Big dinosaur OL guys who will defend a spot (but not mobile enough to defend a scrambling QB), smurf WRs who stretch the field (but not heavy dudes who can fight in the middle of the field and come open for a scrambling QB). Bevell would bring a Beast-mode mentality to the running game with both DJ and AP on the roster. Maybe get more from our TE's over BA's use of them in the passing game.

Currently our OL is not built to protect any QB haha... but I actually like Bevell a lot and at least we are willing to spend money on the OL unlike Seattle :)

Can I ask those who are against this or feel it would be a bad hire, who would they prefer? I don't think ARZ wants to wait and see if JDF will accept a OC position, particularly here where Wilks was chosen instead.

Not a fan.

Problem is, I have no way of knowing who is a young hotshot position coach that would leap at a coordinator position and fly.

Begs the question: What kind of QBOF (pocket, scramble, zone-read etc.) will we seek in the draft? What will our base offense look like?

Why do you think our next QB is going to come out of the draft? We are down in the middle of the first round with several QB-hungry teams ahead of us. It will take massive draft and/or trade assets to move up that will cripple our roster development for years to come.

My guess is that MBSK have a deal in place for a vet QB---a trade for Smith? Manning? I know it is too early to legally contact a FA---but there are a couple guys who will be out there who could step in---Cousins, one of the Viking FA, etc

Wilks is taking a huge professional gamble to sign with the Cards---as will any position coach who signs up for a team without a current QB.

Wonder what promises/secrets MBSK have in hand to convince our new HC, to be announced OC, to come here?

We can use our imaginary FB to stay in for pass protection of our imaginary QB

Cards did invest in the OL via draft picks and FA contracts only to be outplayed by the Seahawk's bargin bin OL

I would have been more intrigued by Haley, but given that he's moved on, my pick would be Mike McCoy.

I'm not going to freak out if we hire Bevell, but McCoy's HC experience interests me.

Please stop this nonsense and go get Defilippo. The idea of having McCoy or Bevell (particularly Bevell) calling plays makes me want to slit my wrists. Two of my best friends are Hawks fans (unfortunate I know), so I watch a ton of Seahawk football. You don't want this clown here. That fanbase has been trying to run him out of town for at least 4 years now. Hard pass

People are discounting that there are good FA QBs to sign when FA opens. There is the option to trade for someone like Alex Smith too. And the draft. Cardinals have options. Whether they will succeed to get it right is an open question

There are a lot of QB options out there this year. Things will come together, but I doubt there's anything planned yet.

But I do agree, the QB coming out of the draft is a bit of a stretch.

It's questionable about whether or not Flip is available. Some are saying his contract is coming to a close, but the Jets apparently blocked him from interviewing for that spot with the Jets. It's awfully hard to hold out for two weeks when Bevell and McCoy both have other opportunities, and we might not even have a shot.

Hope they also told you the competing philosophy between Cable and Bevell that lead to their state of affairs. Add to that they have atrocious OL, no RB and a QB who bails from pocket. Doug Baldwin said time and again it is not the play calling. Bevell made it work as their passing game coordinator. He is not great but will get it done. With DJ, play action will be a staple in his offense. Teddy Bridgewater, Cousins will do well in that system.

If we decide to trade for Alex Smith or go bargain-bin shopping instead of FINALLY addressing this QB position for the future, I'll want Keim fired.

What's your magic solution for addressing this for the future? We're picking in the middle of the first round with tons of QB desperate teams in front of us.

Cards are gonna need the second coming of Christ to do anything with no qb and no o line....and no TE.

Hell. I’ll apply for the OC. Pretty simple to call the O next year. DJ left. DJ right. DJ angle route. TD DJ!!

Well at least I hope. We ain’t got nothing else.

Actually that's how it should be. With Fitz hopefully being here to own the passing game over the middle, and DJ being back at 100% doing his thing, we will move the chains a lot and force opponents to play close to the line. This will open up the offensive playcalling for whomever is our OC and if he have a smart QB he will take advantage of it.
