Roberts dropped a pass during the mixed team drills and either wasn't running hard or didn't seem particularly quick. It stood out since I thought he was supposed to be our speed guy.

Roberts isn't a straight line speed guy -- more a short area quickness guy

Yep, its why he was better at Punt returning then kickoff returning, its why he was used mostly as a screen and slant WR in college then a go route WR in college. As the buzz saying of the combine goes - he is more quick then fast.

& from all reports I remember in his college career never dropped passes. I like Roberts & think he experienced the rookie jitters

Awesome Chris - Thanks so much:thumbup:

Should we maybe sticky a thread called "First hand accounts in Flagstaff" or "TC Write ups" with the explicit reason to be putting in these first hand accounts? Would be pretty cool to see the progression over the course of camp as well as different takes from two people who went on the same day right after each other.

Just a thought.....

Picks 3-7 were probably the worst the Cards have had since 2002.

It was like they were standing there blindfolded and throwing darts at a board with players names attached.

I think that the players weren't bad as individuals, but it seemed like too many projects as a whole class. Small school WR with KR ability, injured DE/OLB hybrid probably 8 months from playing, small school QB, CB who didn't play college football in 2009, and an unathletic TE.

I have said this a couple times, but our offseason loses which resulted in our trading really limited our effectiveness in this draft. Without losing both Rolle & Dansby, we would have had an additional 3rd and 4th round draft picks to work with. However, because we were so thin at those positions, after those guys signed elsewhere the Cardinals had to start trading picks to make sure they got certain positions filled. No offense, but I have a hard time buying that we drafted by best player available when we draft a OLB/DE, CB, QB, WR, & WILB following an offseason where we lose an OLB/DE (Okeafer), CB (McFadden), QB (Warner), WR (Boldin), & WILB (Dansby). This is no coincidence.

Do you think Skelton is a QB to develop for the future and the coach liked his basic projectible skills.Schofield obviously was picked with a eye towards next year.Jorrick is a gamble.Roberts is to take a shot at return role.Dray is being groomed for Bechts role.I don`t see it as a bunch of lost picks.............i see it as planning ahead.

No, not wasted picks, but they were picks designed to fill needs rather than to take the best player which is a better approach. Roberts, Schofield & Calvin are the picks that scare me. Anytime your 3rd, 4th, & 6th round picks consist of a return guy (who may not be able to return punts), an injured player who might miss the entire season, & a guy who didn't play football in he year he was drafted, you have the right to be critical.

Not sure how Schofield was a pick to fill a need since you even acknowledge he likely won't play this year. Given the recent success of later round picks I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Planning ahead for what 2015?

Using your 3rd round pick on a guy who would have to be outstanding to be anything more than a 4th WR when you just got LSH? Are they planning on Breaston leaving?

Using your 4th round pick on a 220lb guy with a bum knee to play OLB in a 3-4 when you just drafted two much larger guys the year before? Maybe they plan on him eventually taking Wilson's place in the defense.

Trading up to use your 5th round pick on a QB who likely won't be ready for 3-4 years when you have a guy who could be your starter for the next 10 years. Expensive insurance.

Using your 6th on yet another small school corner?

I think they're trying to get too cute drafting at the back of the pack like the Cowboys did back in the day with their oddball small school selections.

If Roberts can't return punts, then he was a wasted pick.

Could be they felt Schofields upside was worth having.Same with Skelton and Dray.Roberts could be insurance to take some of the load off Breaston. The CB-who knows.he must have impressed somebody.

I just don't see the upside or rationale with any of the picks after #2.

I don't know, compared to the last 3-4 year's drafts this one just doesn't make sense to me.
