They probably wouldn't, but I don't think Cousins is good enough for us to get rid of three youngsters, and throw in all picks of value.

I wouldn't part with the future Heat picks, but as for everything else, Cousins would have a much better chance of being on the roster in four years than any of those other so-called assets.

Players move around so much that any "acquisition" is really a rental. The more marginal the talent is, the shorter the rental is likely to be. So a longer-term look will usually tip the scales further in favor of the best player, assuming the contract can be secured.

I don't see why the Kings would consider that. McMorris has negative value, and Bledsoe and MkMorris are minimally positive at best. Basically it's Warren or Len plus a bunch of crap for Cousins, and half the teams in the league will beat that offer.

For comparison, when the Suns traded for Barkley, it was Hornacek, Andrew Lang, and Tim Perry. Perry didn't have much value at that point, but Lang had shown more than Len has so far, and Hornacek was much more appealing than Bledsoe is now. Barkley was a more proven commodity than Cousins, but not by much; it's pretty obvious that Cousins is a superstar if he can get his mind under control.

I disagree with both those evaluations. The expectations for Lang were nowhere near what they are for Len. Bledsoe is similar in value to Horny.

However I still don't think it is enough.

Really? In the year before he was traded, Lang started 71 games and averaged 8 and 7 with 2.5 blocks in 24 minutes. True, he was a couple of years older than Len is now, but I'll be surprised if Len ever gets to those numbers.

Bledsoe is similar in value to Horny.

Agree to disagree, as they say. Hornacek had just averaged 20 points per game, was coming off of an All-Star season, and was one of the best shooters in the league. His last two years in Phoenix, he fell short of 50/40/90 by only a few missed free throws. In fact in 1990-91, his second-to-last year in Phoenix, it was literally one missed free throw.

Who would even be left on the team in that scenario?

Here's a worthy question: Would you make an offer to Dragic to have him back now that he's a free agent? It would be an odd arrangement to be sure, but a backcourt of Dragic and Knight would be a winner. And everyone would have a proper role to play without disappointment and confusion.

If you could get Dragic, a blockbuster offer of Bledsoe, Len, Morii and a pick could be made for Cousins. The Kings really want him gone but can't do it without major compensation. We're offering practically our whole starting lineup from last year.

Our setup would be Dragic, Knight, Cousins, and we could focus our offseason on replenishing our forwards. Need one scorer and one defender ideally, and we have some very good young guys to groom into the spots already.

Dragic won't come back. And how would a Knight,Dragic backcourt be a winner? Both are career losers so far.

The whole point of getting Cousins would be to pair him with Bledsoe.

I think Horny was definitely more valued then Bledsoe, think it's a toss-up between Len and Lang, but Markieff has more value then Perry, even with his stupidity considering he's on a very good contract.

However, my bigger issue is with this statement: "Barkley was a more proven commodity than Cousins, but not by much; it's pretty obvious that Cousins is a superstar if he can get his mind under control." Not by much? Cousins is a no-time all-star, who's never elevated his teams to even sniff a playoff appearance. Meanwhile, Barkley had already made the First Team All-NBA FOUR times, had made the Second Team All-NBA twice (making 7 consecutive years on the 1st or 2nd team), was a 6 time All-Star (and game MVP in 1991), and was a runner up for MVP in 1990, not to mention he led the Sixers to the playoffs for five straight years when the East was in it's heyday. He was one of THE superstars in the entire league... even with his head not on straight. Cousins hasn't come close to that level of sustained play/success.

As to Cousins would be a superstar if his head was on straight... well, Barkley's head wasn't exactly on straight either, but he was still a force in the league in every way shape or form.

Comparing Cousins to Barkley is a joke even though I like Cousins. There is no comparison.

Lang was a second round pick, not number 5. He was 26 years old and 4 years into his career at the time of the trade. Youth and potential are the most significant aspects of value.

I think that most people expect much more of Len when he reaches that point. But some people are incurable pessimists.:)

Obviously you are right about the lack of playoffs, but Cousins was an All-Star last year and also made second team All-NBA. We disagree on the size of the gap.

There's no comparison between one player who had ONE very good year and another who was already headed to the HOF, making 7 straight All-NBA teams, runner up in MVP one season, was an Olympian and made the playoffs five straight years. Seriously, showing ONE very good year, where the Cousins stats made zero impact on the team as proof that he's "not much different of a commodity then Barkley" is slin-like reasoning.

If this is a rumor, it is certainly gaining momentum...

Phoenix Suns Must Go All In For DeMarcus Cousins

Nearly every single team in the league is linked to DeMarcus Cousins trade rumors, and rightfully so. The big man, who is arguably the best center in the entire league, averaged 24.1 points, 12.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and nearly two blocks (all career-highs). The Los Angeles Lakers are rumored to be pushing hard to acquire him, along with the Denver Nuggets and Boston Celtics. But can either of those teams put together an offer like the Phoenix Suns can?

Can you name three big men you'd rather have than Cousins? Anthony Davis is one.

Not to mention would anybody really on a good team, rely on Cousins down the stretch to take over a game? That's something that doesn't necessarily show up on stats. When Barkley would take over a game, there were very few that could stop him.

That doesn't describe Cousin one bit. He is more of a consistency guy that is going to put up good numbers for you night in and night out. I just don't remember very many games where the entire team put a game on his back and dared the other team to stop him. I am sure it's happened on occasion but not at the CB level by any stretch.

what does this have to do with the comparison between Barkley and Cousins? Oh... nothing. But since you've now gone full slin and changed the subject... Anthony Davis, Lamarcus Aldridge, Blake Griffin. Easily. None of them are headcases, all of them have done it for longer and each of them are good teammates. But I'll even indulge you're pivot shift a step further, bringing us back to the subject at hand. Could you have named 3 PFs better then Barkley at the time? No. Maybe you could argue Malone when we traded for Barkley, but that's it.

But should we get back to subject at hand about how ONE very good season can in no way compare to the one of the five best players in the league for the better part of a decade? Or are you going to change the subject to something else now?

Yeah on paper Cousins is a terrific player. He plays like one too. But the last important game he played in was back in college. The Kings are always terrible so in effect nothing he does ever matters. No matter how well he plays they're going to lose 50 and not make the playoffs so he has no pressure on him at all. He is completely free to pad stats.

He shoots a low % and turns it over too much but otherwise is a great player, the question is would he still be a great player if he were on a good team and playing in games that really matter?

I think it would be incredibly awkward especially considering the Dragic divorce was an ugly one. I don't think him and McD still like one another so we would have to pick and choose one of the two.

I don't think it's a good idea to bring him back again. We traded him once and then signed him back again, fine. But doing the same thing a second time is too much. I don't think either Suns or Dragic want to do that.

Maybe it was McD's evil plan all along. Trade Dragic for half a year. Get two valuable picks. Trade away IT. Trade away Bledsoe, then sign Goran back to pair with Knight.

In a van...down by the river.
Barkley was the most dominating player on the court during the Olympic Dream team in 1992, and when you look at the All-World HOF teammates he played next to...it becomes even more impressive.

This has nothing to do with Cousins, just thought i'd remind everyone of how truly special Barkley was in his prime years.

I meant comparable in terms of trade value, but I can't deal with your hysteria any longer. So, tell you what: If Cousins ends up being traded this off-season, let's see what he goes for, and take it from there.

I can tell it is draft time. We are getting all worked up with things and then on Thursday we will all be disappointed and weary.
