Doucet is part of the solution for the Arizona Cardinals, not part of the problem. The problem with the Arizona Cardinals is a lack of production under center and a lack of protection on the edges.

Ridiculous. Doucet isn't a solution for anything. The Cards had a guy 100x as good as Doucet and let him go. They had a guy 5x as good as Doucet and let him go.

The only time the Cards have had a high powered offense is when they had TWO of the best WRs in the NFL.

Doucet isn't even in the top 50 of WRs in the NFL. Let him go be injured and drop passes somewhere else.

I don't know what you're talking about. Eli was a Top 6 QB at the beginning of this season. Hakeem Nicks was seen as a very good player, but he's not an elite talent at the position. Eli was seen as an elite quarterback before the emergence of Victor Cruz.

People are deifying Eli in the press right now because it's a fun narrative to talk about in a week of no football news before the Super Bowl. No one who has half a brain thinks hat Eli's better than Peyton.

As I said, Eli Manning's raw statistics show that he's an elite level quarterback. He was a #1 overall draft pick for a reason. He's got a higher profile right now because he's playing in the Super Bowl, but six months from now regardless of what happens two Sundays from now he's going to be mentioned after Brees, Rodgers, Brady, and Roethlisberger. Just where he belongs. Any increase in his yardage numbers is because the rules have been relaxed. It's not like two QBs passed for 5000+ yards this year and a record number of QBs went over 4000, right?

I compare Victor Cruz more to Andre Roberts. Cruz is clearly further along, but he also has a better offensive line playing inside him and a better passer delivering the ball. Cruz and Doucet are VERY different players with regard to their abilities, but you know that already.

Teams game plan for Hakeem Nicks first, and then the running game, and then Victor Cruz. If you come in looking to stop Victor Cruz, you end up looking like the Atlanta Falcons in the Wild Card round.

Did you just start watching football this year? It's all right; you've really done a good job figuring out the game. But Drew Brees was pretty good before Jimmy Graham even came into the NFL, and when Darren Sproles was playing in San Diego. Even won a Super Bowl without 'em. Would you put Marques Colston, Devery Henderson, and Robert Meachem in the same breath as even Hakeem Nicks or Reggie Wayne '12? Of course not. Why? BECAUSE THE FREAKING QUARTERBACK MAKES THEM BETTER THAN THEY ARE. Lance Moore looks good playing on that track with Brees throwing to him. Those guys are average or slightly better on half of the other teams in the NFL.

How were Reggie Wayne and (espeically) Dallas Clark when Peyton wasn't throwing to them this year? Wayne had his lowest receiving total since his third year in the league, and only scored 4 TDs. Dallas Clark only caught 34 passes. Is this because they just decided to suck in contract years? Or is it because THE BEST QUARTERBACK IN HISTORY ISN'T THROWING THEM THE BALL? Are Pierre Garcon and Jacob Tamme really above-average NFL talents, or is the guy delivering them the ball an all-time great?

Pretty sure that Tom Brady was "successful" enough before Moss and Welker came. He might have won a Super Bowl or two without them. He certainly did a good job of winning 10-12 games a year before they showed up. Yes, when surrounded by elite talents like Gronkowski and Moss (Welker is a different character that I don't consider to be an elite talent), his statistical production increased, but the Pats were like 2-4 in the playoffs before those guys.

Rodgers won a Super Bowl without Jermichael Finley, and while Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson are really good, they're not as good as they look with Aaron Rodgers throwing them the ball. Replace Greg Jennings with Santonio Holmes and I bet the Buckeye puts up better numbers. Donald Driver? LOL.

But you're bringing in an inferior free agent to an unfamiliar system with a free agent. Doucet (and Breaston) did as well as they did because they'd been in the system for years, developing and finding roles. This isn't Madden; you don't just make a roster change and wait for natural ability to take over.

Neither of us have any idea what Doucet, Meachem, or Eddie Royal are going to make on the open market. You're right that Royal is going to make the veteran minimum plus a five-figure guarantee, but that's because he's proven to be awful and being a wide receiver. Doucet's best days remain ahead of him. How you can say that we've seen the best of Doucet when two of the worst quarterbacks in the league were throwing to him, both with less than a year of training in the offense, illustrates how little you understand about how player development and free agency movement--especially at a position where there are far more busts than successes in free agency.

Doucet is part of the solution for the Arizona Cardinals, not part of the problem. The problem with the Arizona Cardinals is a lack of production under center and a lack of protection on the edges.

We obviously totally disagree here, but a couple points to highlight...

1st: You say that Victor Cruz's numbers are what they are because he teams game plan against Nicks first, and the running game 2nd. What do you think teams do against AZ??? Fitzgerald, then Wells, and then whom? Doucet had every bit of the opportunity this year that Cruz did and he failed to produce better than average numbers.

2nd: The thought that Santonio Holmes is better than Greg Jennings is laughable. Holmes got tossed to the curb by the team that he won a Super Bowl for and then benched by the team that he is currently on when their next best wide receiver was Plaxico Burress. He can't even keep himself on the field to compete with Jennings.

3rd: You lose credibility when you discount Donald Driver since he holds most of the receiving records for the one of the most storied teams in NFL history/

If we can somehow get a healthy Manning at QB next year, all we need at WR according to K9's thinking is Fitz, 3 midgets and a squirrel to run routes to make our passing game potent. ;)

Okay... Do you even understand the thesis that I'm defending here? Victor Cruz has been successful because he has an elite quarterback throwing the ball to him. The difference between Victor Cruz/Mario Manningham and Andre Roberts/Early Doucet is Eli Manning and John Skelton/Kevin Kolb.

If you don't think that the quarterback throwing to the wide receivers makes a total difference in the performance of the wide receivers... I can't even finish that sentence.

2nd: The thought that Santonio Holmes is better than Greg Jennings is laughable. And these things have to do with Holmes' on-field performance how? Holmes is a Super Bowl MVP and near-elite talent. He was traded(?) by the Steelers because he had a drinking issue and I think hit his girlfriend in the same offseason that Ben Roethlisberger raped some girl in a college bar. Holmes was benched for one quarter at the end of a lost season.

It's sad that you can't admit your wrong on this point, and so instead toss nonsense like this in the hopes that I won't notice or let it slide.

LOL. Maybe you did just start watching football. In Donald Driver's 12-year (and counting) career, he's lead the Packers in receiving just three times. He's never scored more than 10 TDs in a season. He's never gone over 1300 yards in a season.

Driver is 6'0", 188 lbs. Loathed and garbage Early Doucet is 6'0", 185 lbs. What special physical skills does Driver possess that Doucet lacks?

And yet Driver's managed to be productive-ish for more than a decade. Why is that? Could it be because he's had Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers throwing him passes for his entire career? Could it be because he's never had to suffer through watching Derek Anderson and John Skelton sail the ball five yards above his head, or Kevin Kolb take a three-step drop into the waiting arms of an opposing defensive lineman?

How did Donald Driver, who has one very good season in his very long career (2006 he had 1295 yards on 92 receptions with 8 TDs) and lacks the physical gifts that you so clearly covet, manage to capture one of the career receiving records for a storied franchise like the Green Bay Packers (he only leads in yardage)?

Because he had an elite quarterback throwing to him and the Green Bay Packers understand that the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the free agency fence. Driver had 20 starts and 107 receptions over his first four years in the NFL.

Donald Driver doesn't support your point. He's the illustration of exactly why we need to keep Early Doucet around instead of deciding he's garbage because he has garbage throwing to him.

he's a near elite talent who's played with one of the best QBs in the game with Big Ben and a guy you think is a top ten QB with Sanchez and yet in his 6 year career, he's topped 1000 yards ONCE? How in the world can you make the argument that he's better than Jennings who a) is much more productive and b) isnt near the head case?

talk about tossing nonsense around in the hopes that people won't notice that you can't admit you're wrong.

You guys are arguing different sides of the same coin. Yes elite WR's make QB's look better, and yes elite QB's make WR's look better.

What Driver has that Doucet doesn't is durability, at least 15 games in all but 2 of his 13 seasons. Doucet has done that once in 4 years.

He'd likely be better with a QB like Favre or Rodgers but I don't think the QB's ni Arizona are the reason Doucet has been hurt so much because 2 of those 4 years it was Warner. For whatever reason he just seems to get hurt often.

Don't think he fakes it or has a low tolerance for pain, he just gets hurt.

I have nothing more to say after this. Well stated.

Santonio Holmes is overpaid garbage. OK, now I'm done.
