After watching the better camera angles, I have to change my mind. I don't think Bowen kicked Amare in the ankle; I think he stomped on the back of Amare's shoe.

I guess it's a new twist on the Isiah Thomas move (Isiah was famous for stepping on the feet of jump-shooters as they were trying to elevate). Thank goodness we're all able to watch such a fantastic innovator, eh?

Now, as for whether Bowen was targeting Amare's microfracture knee specifically, or whether he only went after Amare's left foot because it was closer to him, I still couldn't tell you.

Also, it did hurt him, since he came down wincing.

He came down wincing because he landed wrong on his left foot and twisted his ankle a little. Bowen still a dirty SOB for doing stuff like this and I hope someone returns the favor the next time he's shooting a 3ptr. Let's see how well he can play defense on a messed up ankle.

I'm sorry, but Amare's foot is not going forward from the kick. The kick happened before his foot even left the ground, and it's not until after the dunk is made that his leg swings forward. His leg swings because of the dunk, plain & simple.

I have a slightly different take. If Amare was thrown off by the contact it could have disrupted his timing on the dunk thus causing Amare to land awkwardly. This is especially true if Amare is trying is trying to compensate for previous knee injuries while landing. I'm sure Amare felt the contact during takeoff.

Yes, I believe Bowen kicked him, Yes, Bowen is an asshat for it. But Amare's leg isn't swinging out because of it.

What I see in the slo mo is Amare going straight up for a dunk, Bowen kicking him, the reaction to the kick then causes Amare to lift his right leg up and forward, then he comes down awkward on his left foot and kind of falls back.

Amare would have gone straight up and pretty much straight down without the kick because he had stopped to dunk, this was not a running dunk where he kicks up both feet.

P.S. my last post on this. We all know about Bowen and have for years, but I really do not like plays like this, and he should not be able to get away with this.
I think he did this on purpose!

Amare is pretty pissed about it, and said it hurt his foot. As long as amare wasn't hurt, it didn't bother me that much, but if he is hurt in anyway then I'm certainly more upset about it than before.

Especially considering this is our franchise player who has already overcome serious injuries.

Stoudemire calls Spurs 'dirty'

Amaré Stoudemire called the San Antonio Spurs a dirty team Thursday and directed most of his words toward defensive specialist Bruce Bowen and sixth man Manu Ginobili.

Hours after the Suns center learned he had made First Team All-NBA, Stoudemire unleashed frustration at what he said were attempts by Bowen and Ginobili to hurt him during the Suns' Game 2 win in the Western Conference semifinals.

Bowen's play irritated him most. In the third quarter, Stoudemire felt a kick to his left Achilles tendon as he leaped inside. He came down awkwardly and said his foot was sore the rest of the night. He got medical treatment before practice.

Stoudemire said he wasn't sure Bowen had kicked him on purpose until he saw the replay.

"It was a wide-open play," he said. "I saw the replay and Bruce Bowen came up behind me, measured his feet and kicked me purposely in the back of my Achilles. That was a dirty play.

"I hope the NBA looks into in and takes a look at Bruce Bowen. In Game 1, I told Bruce to calm down because he might get somebody hurt out there. He had a 'don't care' type of attitude. And it showed in Game 2, when he kicked me purposely in my Achilles. I almost came down wrong and he almost caused an injury. He's known for doing that. I just hope the NBA and the commissioner takes a look because it's definitely a dirty play and that's not something we need."

Stoudemire said the Suns are sending game film into the league office for review. Game 3 of the best-of-seven series is Saturday in San Antonio.

"I'm not worried about it," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said. "I don't think it's a big deal. . . . The league will look at it. Whatever they decide, fine."

Stoudemire has no doubt Bowen meant to kick him.

"For a player to be behind me, there's no way you can try and go for a block and kick me directly in the Achilles," he said. "There's no way. I've dunked on guys. I've been dunked on, so I know how it is to play hard out there. That wasn't a case of someone playing hard, it was just a case of trying to injure someone, plain and simple."

Stoudemire said he didn't react immediately because he didn't want to hurt his team with a technical foul or suspension.

"We're trying to win a ball game," he said. The series is tied 1-1.

Stoudemire said he had told Bowen to "Calm down" in Game 1, because he felt Bowen was playing recklessly.

"He was just kind of out of control," Stoudemire said. "I mean, Bruce Bowen's normally under control, but he ran directly into me. I said, 'Man, you're going to get somebody hurt out here. He was like, 'Shut up." I was like, 'Man, I'm just giving you some cautions. You're going to get somebody hurt.' But he wasn't hearing it. . . . Bruce Bowen, who's a two-time champion, should have more class than that."

Stoudemire was upset with Ginobili for grabbing his knee while falling. He said Ginobili had kneed him in the crotch earlier this season.

"The Spurs are a dirty team," Stoudemire said.

Good, glad to hear it. Bowen already got one "warning." We'll see if the league sees the same thing we see.

Hard to argue with anything Amare says there.

On the other hand, they've still got to play on Saturday, and the league obviously won't do anything about this--they've encouraged and promoted dirty play for as long as I can remember.

The Suns have to just go out and play their game, and if they retaliate, they have to do it against Tony Parker, not any of the perpetrators. That's really the only way to set up a deterrent that the league will endorse post facto.

LOL, excellent timing! Now that he has the clout of a First Team-er, his words automatically carry more weight.

It was nothing. Basketball is a physical sport and contact happens. I watched a HDTV recording of it several times in slo-mo on a 70 inch screen and there was just a slight brush, if anything...

If Bowen really wanted to injure him, Amare would be out for the series. You folks watch too much Oprah!

No soup for you!

Come back one year.

Now we know why we've got Rose on the team. If I was a Spur on the floor, I'd be worried about someone whose season would be made by taking out the other team's starter but would not play otherwise.

Somehow I doubt much will come of it directly; i.e. a suspension or a fine. BUT, I do hope the league finds that some of the actions are questionable enough to have to officials on the look out and tell them to call such actions tight. That "Manu hug" on STAT's leg was the most blatant “dirty” act the whole game and I hope the officials will be keeping a close eye on Manu and Bowen. I think there were a couple calls that went our way that shouldn’t have, but game 2 had some really really bad no-calls.

One of the smartest things Amare ever did was just stand still after Ginobili put that full body lock on his leg. He might have drawn a foul if he'd tried to move but you know Gino would have exploded into action trying to make it look like Amare caused it - and 'accidentally' twisted the hell out of his leg in the confusion.

That's the second dirty play for Gino this series that I've seen - in game 1 he threw a rolling block at Raja's legs. He was exaggerating the effect of a moving pick by KT but the refs didn't buy it and called a foul on him. Any Spurs fan will tell you that the fact that he rolled into Raja's legs was purely accidental - but until he injures a teammate with his wild flops I'm totally convinced he targets opponents. And that Popovich condones it - he has to because Parker and Duncan play are on the floor with him every game and no way would Pops allow a 'loose cannon' that endangered his valued players.
