Hell, I will take Billy Zane or Speedy Gonzalez at this point.Zane Gonzales is available.
All the Zane Gonzales love cracks me up. He was so bad he got dumped already.
Cairo Santos should have been signed at 11a this morning
Me... you ... go to a local high school and sign a kicker directly... Dawson is done... washed up, will do nothing but cost us games the rest of the year...Whose better on the streets right now?
Should have went with the kid. He did better than Dawson in the preseason. Is he available or did some other team pick him up?
Now that we know it's a lost season, yeah looking back they probably should've kept the rookie. But I watched him kick for the Raiders & he was far from impressive. Only 3 of 8 kickoffs we touchbacks - the rest were at the goal line or as short as the 8 yard line. (Perhaps he was coached to kick it there.) He was 3/5 on FGs... yep, he made the game winner from 29, but he could've put the game out of reach of ever getting to OT had he made one of the other two kicks. Meh.I said in several posts, that we should have kept McCrane... Almost everyone here said, Dawson was a known commodity, and you can't trust a rookie kicker.
That rookie kicker had a game winning kick for the Raiders... and continues to kick the ball through the back of the endzone...

We can come up with a gazillion ways to justify Dawson's poor play (i.e. stress of close games wind currents, just part of the game etc etc).
But the bottem line is that he'll break your heart at least 2 or 3 times during a season. It's unlikely that there's anyone else out there equally or more reliable.
Best we can do is factor in his miss-potential whenever we integrate the options of kicking or "going for it" into our play calling.

Winning teams don't put up with a lack of execution.
Rams cut Ficken and sign Santos
The Rams signed Ficken earlier this month after Zuerlein suffered a groin injury in Week 2. In two games, the 25-year-old Ficken missed two of three field-goal attempts, including one in Thursday night's win that kept the Minnesota Vikings within striking distance.

But since you knew it was a lost season, what's the point of cutting him and having his dead money on the cap, just to try to make a few more meaningless kicks and possibly win a few meaningless games?? You can't have it both ways!that is beyond defeatist mentality.
he hasn't been even good for two seasons. It's just as likely that you can find someone who can at least boom kickoffs and break our heart 2 or 3 times a season. At least then we'd gain SOMETHING on kickoffs and people wouldn't immediately be clutching their pearls when Dawson stepped on the field.
A team can't go into a season with the mindset that's it's a lost season, for obvious reasons... attracting coaches & veteran players, getting fans to buy tickets, etc.believing it wasn't a lost season before the season started was pretty naive, IMO. And even if so, if you thought we did have a fighting chance... I still question why you bring back the kicker who was bad last year and struggles on kickoffs. And who admitted to having a psychological thing going on last year?
Now that we all know it's a lost season, what would be the point of cutting him loose?but even if you argue that there was no way to know this was going to be a lost season, now that we all KNOW it's a lost season, wouldn't now be the best time to cut him loose and see if you can find someone to trust in live games for the future?
