I haven't made my annual " Give me Sunday Ticket or I bail" call yet... Truth is.. I'm nervous.

With the change in ownership, I'm 99% sure they will call my bluff...

It doesn't help that Verizon wireless called my bluff just over a year ago, and I left with my tail between my legs..... I have always been completely happy with Verizon wireless, but I can cut my bill in half with ANY other carrier... And it was pissing me off, So I went into a Verizon store. asked for a Manager and politely plead my case... To no avail... "How much to exit my contract I asked?"...... $240 the Manager replied...... "Here is my credit card... I'm canceling"

Manager swings the CC terminal towards me, and tells me to swipe my card.

"Ummm, actually, I need to discuss this with my Wife"

Was a tough plate of crow... Truth is, in my neck of the woods, every other cell carrier is garbage.

If DTV calls my bluff, I'll be eating another heaping plate.

I'm weighing my options also. I've been with Direct TV since I moved into my house in 2003. My equipment is so old, it's ridiculous. My dad just recently subscribed and got all new Genie equipment and Sunday ticket for free, which got me a little fired up that I am still using all this old crap after being a "loyal" customer for so long. I'm no longer on contract, so I plan on calling and battling.

I just sucked it up and made the dreaded annual call. Got it reduced from $360 total ($60/mo) for the MAX plan to $305 ($51/mo). FWIW she said that's the lowest reduction they're offering. I could have tested her by continuing with the cancellation. I think if it really came down to me cancelling, there might be one more reduction level I could have reached before she pressed the kill button. But I just didn't have the energy. I took my $55 savings and was happy with it - just like PP21 took his 4th place Madden ranking and was happy with it. :D

To get through to Retention Dept, just say 'Cancel Sunday Ticket' at the voice prompt. I always just say that it's too expensive this year and I can no longer afford it. As much as I hate doing it every year, if I can save $55 with a 10 minute phone call, I'm always going to do it.

I'm going to wait until after the second week of the season. Since week 1 is a Sunday night game and I will be going to the TB game, I won't really need the ticket until week 3. Hopefully I will be able to work a better discount at that time.

Did you get the $100 credit for "refer a friend" when your Dad signed up?

You made the right call. The regular package is almost the price of what you are now getting on the Max package.

Ouch, that sucks dude. I googled ISPs in Albq and CityLink appears nice, but only available to like 63% of the city.

It's the only way to go. DirecTV is counting on people being scared or hesitant to call. As long as you are on their A-list they will do something. Heck I cut them off months ago and I have received at least 3 offers to comeback. IMO people who don't play the game are playing into their hands.

When I made the call to upgrade my equipment to Genie, I felt they were pretty reasonable about it all, so I went ahead and did it. When I complained about the price of Sunday Ticket, the customer service rep told me to just cancel it, which I did. She said to wait until late August or so and I'll probably get a better deal. I think I'm going to do what you're suggesting.. just until after the Pats game, at least and then call.

Ive found the majority of NFL games are boring.

As cardinal fans we get spoiled by our downfield offense. And then you switch to the Texans-Browns and its 10-6 in the 4th.

Unless you have Josh Gordon in fantasy (and he isn't suspended) why would you willingly watch the Browns :)

I didn't think I could ever give up NFL Sunday ticket. The weird thing is, after I did, I simply didn't miss it like I thought I would.

Says the guy that lives in AZ and goes to every home game and is able to see every televised road game. It may be dumb for an Arizonian but for us outa staters its worth every penny and then some... I get EVERY Cards game and tons of other great games usually not available...

mryeahbut:

How long you been with Directv? I upgraded to the whole genie system free of charge a little over a year ago... Its about the standard now if you've had your old boxes any decent amount of time.. GENIE rules!
There are ways to watch out of market games for free. I won't go into detail here but it's possible.

Not every AZ-nan can get to games either, some circumstances just allow for that all the time BUT I just re-read the OP and yes I do have the Genie and I concur it is awesome to be able to watch and/record in different rooms, I got it for free too

They say its free, but its not. You pay every month for each TV, $7. Advanced receiver $10, Advanced receiver DVR $10, Whole home DVR service $3. They just don't list the Equipment, they charge for services.

Made my annual call today. I signed a 12 month contract and in return received a $50 monthly credit for 12 months. Essentially, Sunday Ticket for free and then 6 months of $50 off my regular bill.

you should wait until dish works out their contract with the nfl....without even a redzone option you really have zero leverage against directv

I've been a customer since launch, and I'm not tied to a contract, so I'm not completely unarmed.... Since the sale to AT&T... it seems most of the CS has been farmed out overseas, and the last few interactions with them, makes me think they don't give a crap at all.

The rep I talked to thought this was the last year of discounts. Next year may be more difficult dealing with AT&T.

I canceled Sunday ticket figuring I'd get it after first or 2nd game. It's showing on my statement this month. Now I freaking gotta call them again!! Man this hacks me off!

A couple of weeks ago I made my annual call. I got $40 off for 12 months. No new contract. Not the best deal I've gotten...

The best way to get to retention is to say, "when does my contract end" at the prompt.

I usually get to retention directly by saying 'cancel' at the prompt. I'm just bitter they pulled this crap again!
