My wife grew up an Auburn fan. Her brothers were close friends and teammates of Heisman Trophy winner Pat Sullivan. She knows football is a religion.

Melanie is a rabid Cards fan. She knows every roster number and can name the special teams players by the third game each year. She recognizes evey coach.

No lie. Dave McGinnis used to tell her stuff he didn't tell me.

She despised Joe Greene, David Boston and Tito Paul.

Women and football? The general rule is they do not mix. Send them shopping. For those of you lucky SOBs that have women who love football, I hate you!!

There are two reasons imo that women are still not interested in sports. One is that it is genetic.

In my daughter's age group (5th) only about 20% of the girls play sports. For example our local baseball/softball league has over 1000 kids participate. Around 200 are girls. And many of these girls despite their parents best efforts would really rather be somewhere else. Most of the girls we talk to about playing softball or basketball have no interest whatsoever. Only 4 girls older than 12 signed up for softball even though we do not have 6-8th grade softball in our district.

And two, the majority of fathers do not take the same interest in getting their daughters into sports as they do with their sons.

I know from coaching girls softball for several years that most of the girls were taken to practice by their moms. All the dads were at baseball and football practice though. Not surprising is that many of the girls who are supported by their dads either have no brothers or their brothers are still too young to play. It's also not surprising that most of the girls who play select level softball have dads who have taken a strong interest in their sport.

(However,to be fair many girls as noted above do not respond to dad's encouragement.)

Luckily my daughter is becoming a real sports fan thanks to many trips to SDS and UT games. 15 years from now some guy is going to thank me when he finds out he's married a woman who loves football.

Congratulations to all the guys out there, like Jstadvl, who take the time to support their daughters in sports.

Thank you my man.

And its nice to have chicks that dig sports...my wife is a sports fan as well. She and I went to the Green Bay game last year together (Abomb took his girl to another game...but now we each have an additional ticket, so we'll take em more often).

Add to that, my wife also went to the Playboy Mansion with us (I made her work though). This is her with Playmate Deanna Brooks:

And me (the guy in black shirt, with goatee). That night was grand...

My wife watches football without me. She used to be indifferent about sports until she found out about the involvement of alcohol.

Heck she even likes to get autographs now. Look at how she shoved all those little kids out of the way to get one.

Bally’s Sports needs to go away
practice

In all fairness, I coached boys baseball for five seasons and the majority of the boys are brought to practice by Mom, too.

I've been slowly teaching the woman the game for several years now. She shows interest, especially in the drinking part of the game (as cards fans, you know the drinking part. it's part of being a fan, and the only way to numb the pain).

I have the greatest faith that when our saviour DG wins our division title she'll take much more interest in come to the games with me, which would be great, i think. more voices to cheer, more butts in the seats. and hey, by default, women who love football are sexy... within reason, of course ;)

Um.... so Gnomad is only 8 posts into his stay at ASFN, but I'd like to nominate him for Poster of the Year.

Ok? Thanks!
