Shades of Kurt Warner...
Not even close. The Warner situation was just plain stupid. Warner had just come off of leading the team to the Super Bowl and the team was dragging it's feet in giving him an offer. He was forced to go to SF just to get the Cards to crap or get off the pot. Dockett was released free to negotiate with any team. Him going to SF to negotiate isn't going to draw anything from the team other than a shoulder shrug.

love #90 but if he goes to SF I hope he fails miserably.
Yep. I do believe that he signs with them he has absolutely no chance to make the Ring of Honor. I don't know if that matters to him but he IS very concerned about his legacy.

He had an offer when he went to SF, he didnt like it, and used them for leverage and got an extra $3 million from his "visit", which turned out to only be $1.5 million.

if we offered 2.5mil with incentives to reach 4 mil, no one will match that. the only way he doesnt come back is out of spite or if someone offers more than 1 yr.

Cards can make better use of 2.5 million dollars than giving it to a 34 year injury rehab player past his prime.

I think we neglect to remember that employee/employer loyalty is way different than being a fan of a team. A dedicated apple employee would probably go to Google in a second if the opportunity and money were better, but a Apple fanboy isn't gonna rush out and buy the Galaxy S6 so easily.

Dockett, Warner and countless other players have a set value in their heads of what they are worth. Teams have a set amount of what those players are worth as well. If the numbers don't align, and you can't get them to align then sometimes you just have to move on. Dockett may learn that the Cardinals offer was fair if no team offers him much more than what we did and he may stick around. If a team steps in and offers to overpay him, can we really blame him for leaving? Winning a championship is no guarantee, but living after football is a damn near certainty and I'm sure Dockett wouldn't mind getting one last payday before he retires.

While the $2.5M + incentives that could the total up to $4M is a very good offer at this point, what hasn't been reported is that the guaranteed money is. That's probably the sticking point. If the Cardinals didn't offer guaranteed money, then Dockett is likely seeking it elsewhere---if he can get it coming off an ACL injury at age 34. Otherwise, it would seem that the Cardinals' offer is generous.

Even more like Brett Farve.

Dockett isnt going to SF to leverage more money from Arizona. He's going because he's genuinely interested in signing with SF. Wouldnt be surprised if it were for personal reasons.

As @Edwerderespn reported, @ddockett visit with 49ers begins tonight, per source.

Guess he figures that worked with Warner. He would be stupid to tarnish his image with AZ fans if the money money and year(s) is similar to what the Cards would pay.

it could only be one of two things:

They are offering more money

or

He wants to play us twice a year.

Its not very cryptic.

Nope... SK and BA make an offer that's it, they don't budge, the tell players to go see if they can get paid elsewhere and offer still stands if you cannot get better and if spot not filled.

Yes, they are actually former FSU teammates. Dockett used to call Q the best WR in the NFL, and that was when Fitz was here.

Only if he cared, which I really don't think he does.

Dockett's priorities in order are: money, respect, winning. Worrying about his (presumably) former employer and its fans probably doesn't keep him up at night.

I give you two players that are free agents right now and their last four seasons.

Player 1 (Age 34, 6'4", 290 lbs)
You must be registered for see images attach

Player 2 (Age 26, 6'3", 280 lbs)
You must be registered for see images attach

Player 1 wants around or above $4M a year and probably more than just 1 year.

Player 2 is likely to take less on a 1 year prove it contract, maybe more years.

Which would you rather have?

Sorry.. Year, Games, Games Started, Total Tackles, Solo Tackles, Assist Tackles, Sacks... last number is forced fumbles.

Whoever #2 is, he's injured more often than #1...looks like he misses every other year, but is effective when healthy.
