So what will it take to pick up Drew Brees? With the way he is playing, possibly MVP, I am sure he is going to demand significant money, or a trade. Further, I don't think that any team can afford to pay 2 big money quarterbacks, particularly S.D. when they are going to have to pony up some big money for their star tight end. So if Brees becomes available, is he worth going after and what do you think it will take to get him (Bryant Johnson and a # 3).

Isn't it funny? Could have got him for practically nothing at the end of last year. Know what else is funny. If we would have traded for him back in February, the reaction on this board would have blown a server.

The way I see it Arizona would have to be the #1 place for any FA QB to come to. Whereelse would you have the targets the Cards have.

Brees looked worse than McCown for 2+ years. Then he matured. John h and Stout would have cut him.

Denny Green knows QBs. Whatever he chooses is fine by me.

If Brees has any choice of where he can go he will not choose AZ.

hey - I'm all for cutting Josh a little slack here Skkorp after yesterday but the above is just FLAT OUT RIDICULOUS - In Brees' first full year starting - he and LaDanian got that woeful Chargers team out ot a 7-1 start - he looked pretty good at that point and then started to spiral downward - but at least he looked good coming out of the gates - you can't say the same for Josh and ignoring Brees' start(or maybe not remembering it) really makes your position on the whole issue look kinda foolish.

Brees will have every chance to go where ever he pleases. The only way he stays in SD is if they franchise him.........at a cost of $9MM......and that ain't happening.

I personally think Brees would look very favorably at the Cardinals.........especially considering the WR's we have plus the RB will get either through FA or in the draft.

Drew is a free agent when the season ends so unless San Diego uses their franchise tag on him he won't have to be traded for...but IF Green decides to go after him he will be competing with Green Bay and Miami for his services(just to name 2 teams off the top of my head).

I am getting tired of watching our current QB play it too safe and make very few big plays...but that said I am still hoping he develops in the second half of the season and we can do something else in the offseason(like find a TE, RB, some OLineman who actually earn their salary, another CB and a big--if even part time--run stuffing DT to clog the middle).

If you were Brees would you play in the winter weather that comes for half the season in GB.

I don't see him in Miami........he and Boston got along like oil and water. And would you rather play for a team heading into a new stadium with an offensive minded coach that is on the rise or a team that will be struggling behind an O-Line that's worse than ours as in Miami.

If we want him, we have a lot going for us in a recruiting war.

Unfortunately it comes down to more than just recruiting, reputation and most importantly MONEY will play huge roles in his decision.

We don't need a new QB what we need is a better offesive line. When Josh gets protecttion he is pretty accurate with his passes. Brees would get killed behind this offensive line.

If SD was smart they would trade Rivers. They could get more for him and they don't need him. They could probably get more than a #1 for him beacuse he's been in the league for a year, has a contract in place, and there are no real highly rated QB's in this years draft. The only reason they won't trade him is because the GM won't want to admit his mistake. How Rivers ever got rated that high still baffles me.

San Diego will Franchsie Brees and likely get a number 1 and and 3 for him - that's my call - and then - a good young team, like San Diego is - willhave to pray that Rivers is the man - and if so - stocked with THREE first round draft picks this year (the Giants, their own and whoever drafts Brees) will be in line to be VERY good for years to come.

I however still thinkthat Rivers is going to suck.

Packers would be an excellent fit for Brees. He played college ball for Purdue in the Big Ten so he is used to the cold weather.

i could be wrong, but i don't think denny wants brees. he's anti to almost every qb denny has ever worked with. denny loves the large dudes with cannons. let's see, warren moon still had a big arm when playing for denny, as did cunningham and george and culpepper. denny has never been a big fan of smaller precision-type qbs.

i'll make the bold statement that even if josh doesn't do ANYTHING to give denny the feeling of security in the offseason brees will not be a qb as long as denny is coach.

i think he ends up in gb. and i don't think the sunny winters have much to do in recruiting when you're talking about competitive players, they want to go somewhere to win and gb has a much better history of that then do we.

I was listening last week to ESPN radio and the host was talking to a reporter from San Diego he said the level of talent between Brees and Rivers is very apparent in practice(in Rivers favor) and that all Rivers needs is time...he was very confident in the belief that Rivers will be a star QB and surpass anything Brees is capable of. I'm not saying this myself just repeating what someone has said that actually watches practices and covers the team.

I thought Rivers was a stud QB in college, but I did like Big Ben more, I see no reason to think he will fail.

The cap hit that would be involved by trading Rivers would be prohibitive.

If you ever lived up in the Northeast or MidWest you never get used to cold weather.........you might accept it but you never get used to it.

that's not entirely true. if you grow up in it and never live in a warmer clime, you are, by definition, used to it. however, brees has lived in sd now. so it DOES become an acceptance thing for him.

i know, having grown up in az and then going to college and law school in boston and dc, respectively, that you don't get used to it, you just wait until you can move away once you've accomplished your cold weather goals. brees could move to gb to win a superbowl and then retire nicely to a warm weather team.

I may be the exception here, but I've lived in New England my whole life (save for 7 years in Arlington, VA in the 90s) and the cold doesn't bother me. I don't necessarily LIKE it, but it doesn't bother me (unless it's single digits with a strong wind...then it SUCKS!!!!!! :D ) You can always layer up, and if you don't think about it, it's not a problem.

Spanky: I hope you are right but more than anything these guys want a ring. The good ones will always get the money. We have our history working against us. I have no idea what NFL players think of Coach Green. I would not think firing your starting center and constantly moving around your lineman, and demoting your OL coach in midseaon to be a plus. First things first however and that is Coach Green needs to make up his mind on Josh McCown. That is flat unknown. I think many coaches would already have gone to their backups and let Josh sit a game or two just to shake things up for a while. This is not unheard of. I also wonder about his moving around the lineman to different positions. I have no idea if this is good or bad but I would think you would want some stability. He is constantly tinkering and one day a good is in his doghouse and the next week he is starting. This seems like a strange way to motivate these people. I would think that "most" NFL players go out there and give it there all each week. They may have off weeks but I doubt many of them just dog it. They have to be very competitive to even play at this level. Constantly changing them around does not seem like a great idea to me. I thought L J Shelton should have been starting from the get go but for what ever reason Coach sits him down for several games and then starts him. Yesterday he pulls him then at crunch time brings him back in. What is that all about. I wonder of L J even knows. I have no idea what Coach Green is trying to do other than win but I sure detect some stubborness in him and it also seems he is not one to accept responsibilty when things go wrong. It his assistants or the players fault. He coach you put this act together. You are the director. Step up when things go wrong and accept some of the responsibilty. Play calling for instance. You sure can have some input into that. Taking the ball on kickoff with a 45 mph wind at Buffalo looked bad then and looks bad now. I come from a military culture where if you are the Commander you step up and take the responsibility good or bad. Anything less and your men and women are not behind you.
