I don't doubt that Shipp will be the starter game 1, but the head games are going to get old (if in fact this is all some motivational ploy).

Uh DG in 10 years won 2 coach of the year awards, had 9 seasons without a losing record, made the playoffs 8 times with 7 different QBs, won 4 division titles etc.

I think he knows what he is doing.

Smith must have scored better on the Wunderlic than Shipp.

Yeah he should be fired right now before he leads the Cards into becoming the worst team in the NFL oh wait a second...
VF, how do you reconcile your feelings on Smith as an NFL RB (much less an NFL starting RB) as stated below from a post dated February of this year, and DG's commitment to him as a starter?

"E Smith playing out there is just sad on so many levels especially what it says about the Cards franchise."

"I don't know why DG asked him [Smith] to stay on. Maybe respect was a factor the dude is a HOFer. How much damage can a back up RB do?"

I don't know how many of you watched the Vikes during their good run, but Emmitt reminds me much more of Robert Smith than Marcel Shipp. Whether this sticks or not, it seems that most football players are effective in certain systems, and DG's system doesn't seem to be tailored to Shipp. All I remember is DG setting up the run with the pass, and then having Robert Smith get dump offs, delayed hand offs, but always being a quick shifty guy. While Emmitt may not be Robert Smith at this point in his career, he may be a better fit than Shipp for the offense.

I aggree 100%

Shipps #s are not as good as Emmitts in the last few games, especially in reception yards.

This makes no sense. Shipp is the Rodney Dangerfield of running backs. I think he would be made second string if his coach picked the guy seling beer out of the stands. We will have to run two back sets all the time just so the FB can run along side him to keep him from falling over and breakng his hip. This must just be a tip of the hat to smith out of respect. Smith will lose the job day one in camp.

when Emmitt started last year Sullivan was trying to convince the world that they were a "passing" team. when shipp started they realized that blake sucked and that they had to run the ball. people act as if shipp is some superstar or something, but last time I checked, he disappeared for weeks last year and never cut the 10 yard bungie cord attached to Leonard Davis. He is not a finisher, and there was a reason that #22 played almost the whole Minnesota game. He is smarter, he is a better blocker, and he is better out of the backfield, and with the weapons they now have on offense, he will shine. I would trade Shipp asap and make Scobey or Anderson the backup.

I just dont understand it what so ever.....Emmit Smith gained 250 yards in 5 games last year before he got injured...Where Marcel Shipp gained 165 yards against the 49ers....I know Stats arent everything...But clearly Marcel Shipp is the better back now!

If anyone other than Jim had posted this, I would have thought it was a bad joke. This is not news I wanted to hear. Shipp should be starting.

Is there an over-abundance of Smith Cardinal jerseys that the team needs to sell or something?

I love Emmitt. Class act. Hall of famer. Super player. But his time has come and gone.

Stupid Stupid Stupid move! I am actually amazed that some people who dont like Shipp are happy to see him replaced by a wore out old man.

Shipp will be the starter by the start or the season. He is better than Smith any day of the week!

Winning the SB involves a lot of luck and non-coach factors. The goal is to win the SB. But a lot of factors go into that. The way to judge a coach is does he get you the opportunity to win a SB year after year.

Look at Ditka he won a SB but he is a terrible coach. Look at Bud Grant and Marv Levy they are both HOF coaches never won a SB. You cannot judge a coach on winning the SB. Non-coach factors and luck play a huge role.

If DG won a SB in his first year or second year then missed the playoffs every year after that he wouldn't be coaching in the NFL for very long.

Gruden never won a SB and TB hired him and you saw what happened. Dungy never won a SB and IND is now contending. Vermeil never won a SB and look what happened in STL and now KC. Parcells didn't win a SB with NE and NYJ yet DAL hired him.

The way to fairly judge a coach is does he get you the chance to win the SB year after year.

No team can win a SB if it misses the playoffs.

I'll take a suck coach and a Superbowl win over a coach with the "opportunity to win year after year" every year from now til the day I die.

I like how all the people that were asserting that Green knew more about football than any of us, that he'd been seeing the players on film and evaluating them, etc., now say that Green has no idea what he's doing, is insane, that this can't possibly stick, and that Shipp's far and away a better player.

This gives me more confidence in Green than ever. Emmitt gained 2.8 YPC last season. Shipp gained 3.6. All this browbeating over 2.4 feet per tote.

This reminds me of Kansas State Fan.
Nobody cares. Win it all.

I don't see where people can say Shipp gets no respect. He started 11 games last year and played in all 16.

Lets not forget, it's not like he lit it up last year. He only averaged 3.6 yards a carry and never found the End Zone. Those are not exactly great stats. In fact they are some of the worst numbers for a RB in the league.

KDUS reported that the reason why Smith was elevated was because he's better suited for Green's system and better at hitting the gaps.....
