Don't compare last year to this year the coach last year didn't have the record of success in the NFL that this year's coach has.

Do you have standard responses stored away so all you have to do is cut and paste? I hope so, because if you didn't, you would have some sore fingers from typing the same thing over and over.

Well ...it must be true. Emmitt is on the starting training camp roster. I wonder who was on the starting training camp roster last year?

I also noticed Fitzgerald and Dockett on the starting training camp roster. When did they sign a contract?

You see what I'm saying?

Or is it too smokey around here.

Perhaps the ownership promised Emmitt the starting spot to get him to sign here, and Denny just found out about it?

robert smith was never a "quick shifty guy." he was a long strider with breakawy speed. i am very well acquainted with robert smith's career. neither emmitt nor shipp comes close to emulating robert smith's running style.

Perhaps my memory serves me incorrectly......I watched a ton of Viking games, and always remembered him as that. I am sure we can agree that Smith is more like Smith than Shipp, if you follow me.

Josh Scobey's running style is the closest thing we have to Robert Smith's (albeit there may be a giant talent gap). Both of them are very fast in a straight line and are both upright runners (which is why they say Smith was injured so often; he took a lot of big hits)...anyway, if you want a Robert Smith clone Scobey is the closest thing we've got to it, imo.

only in the fact that smith is prolly more useful in the passing game. otherwis, as i said previously, neither back comes close to approximating the way robert smith played.

I would agree with that ! Scobey is the closest to Robert Smith on this team.

i agree and that's why i've said for some time now that i won't be surprised if scobey ends up with a great share of playing time this year. unless he's too stupid to pick up the offense or has horrific hands.

Sorry but I can't get excited about starting lineups being announced in June for training camp. DG will have the best team in place for the season opener against the Rams. He really doesn't "tinker" that much during the regular season unless someone is hurt or really playing badly. Shipp and Smith will see plenty of action during the pre-season (which will be a first for Smith as the Cowboys usually rested him for the regular season). The better player will start.

the other thing that puzzles me is if this is how Green wants to play, why didn't we draft a RB who can play that way (Kevin Jones maybe) or pursue one in trade or FA?

But I guess you can't fix everything at once maybe he went into OTA with Shipp and just decided Emmitt fits better and there is no conspiracy to drive me nuts?

For the record a while back during a thread about another switch he made(can't recall which) I said I would give him a free pass until he did something stupid like demoting Shipp for Smith, thus my outrage (-:

Unfortunately he could prove both fears true...but I don't think he will (I hope not, anyway). I'd like to see him get a shot. Those running lanes get REAL big when you are killing someone with the pass so let's hope our passing game comes together...because it'll make up for very poor vision and a lack of shiftiness (assuming that's even a word)...

My guess is that Marcel can't play without a fullback showing him the way. Running out of an empty backfield take a different set of skills and uses a different set of plays.

My guess is that Marcel was unable to make the transition. Emmitt has seen a lot of three-wr-one-rb sets in his time, and knows the ins and outs.

Marcel controls his own destiny in that if he can learn how to gain yards without a fullback, he'll be fine. If he can't, he's history.

Just watched the DG press conference. INTEREST NEWS: DG is committed to running the 3 wide set as the primary set. He wants to get his best players on the field all the time. He also said that Emmitt's cutting, slashing style is best suited for this attack. This makes sense to me; if he was running the two wide-power running set, than Shipp makes sense. Now that Green has committed to the 3 wide set, Emmitt does seem like a more logical option. Man, I can't wait to see this offense next year, it's gonna be a friggin track meet every game.

I am not sure if anyone mentioned it, but with Emmitt in the backfield you know you have a back that is able to pick up the blitz.....and if we are using the 3 wr sets alot, that is extremely important... the RB must pick up the blitz....also..... I always thought Emmitt did a good job with screen passes or catching the ball out of the backfield.....I will give DG the benefit of the doubt.... he is the one with the winning record, we should trust he knows what he is doing

you know, hopping up on this up-on-emmitt-smith bandwagon for a second here, wouldn't it be sweet to see emmitt have a blowup year and rack up some 1500 all purpose yards?

.

Last year he was 3.6 YPC as as the lone back, 3.4 from I formation and 4.1 from the split back. 3.6 with 3Wr, 4.1 with 2. Emmitt was better in 3 WR and lone back formation in admittedly less carries. Most of Emmitt's success was when the team was way behind running out of the 3 Wr set.

When we were close Emmitt was not good at all.

So last year he was better in the 3 wide set.

ESPN doesn't have the year before to see how Shipp did that year.

Boy I hope he's right that Josh is ready to run that offense.

Last year Josh McCown 3wr

24/44 218 yards 54.5% 4.95 YPA 1 TD 1 INT 6 sacks.

That's one sack every 7+ attempts.

I have a suspicion this move has a lot more to do with Josh than it does with Shipp I think Green is realizing in camp that if he runs 3 WR's as his base set that Josh is going to get sacked a LOT and he wants the best pass blocking RB possible in there to help in that regard even if it does hinder the run game threat somewhat.

Oh well, Shipp has time to win the job back, if he doesn't, I'll live.

Hey Vikesfan, would you pass me one of those Dennis Green Popsicles you have been sucking on. I bet they go great with Cardinal Kool Aide.

So, when is James Hodgins getting cut?

He's not. He's spent the entire OTA time practicing saying: "If you need 2 yards I'll get you 3. If you need 5 yards I'll get you 3." :D

Wake me up when training camp starts and Vikesfan has broken the "D" and "G" keys on his keyboard from overuse and can't post anymore.

I still don't like the hiring of Dennis Green. I went on record of that on day 1 of this whole thing. Its Buddy all over again.

I just hope Dennis doesn't have a son that is a player agent.

all you need is 4 yards per down. not 3. that 2.4 feet could be the difference in an entire season. Emmitt is old and busted. He can't cut like he once could. He doesn't see as well as he did. he certainly doesn't have a moose blocking for him at fullback either. he never could clear his own lanes, whereas Shipp has the ability to do it time to time.

all right, all right. Thats enough. Emmitt may not be able to cut like he used to, but, he still possesses better vision than shipp, and is still shifty. Of this, I'm sure. Emmitt scored a couple of touchdowns last year with some nifty cuts around the goal line. Shipp never made a run like that in all the time I've watched him.

I'm for giving a the HOFer another chance.
