I know, I know.

It is ESPN, and Adam Schefter, and the whole media outlet is questionable as a "fair and balanced" news source.

Of course the big news is Manning is going to be released today.

Adam Schefter gave his final four options for Manning to go to:

Jets
Cardinals
Redskins
Dolphins

Then he broke each of the teams down.

Jets - Already has cap problems, and Sanchez

Cardinals - No tradition or stability

Leaving the Dolphins and Redskins as the most likely places. Even though the Dolphins and Redskins owners are highly quesitonable. There is an assumption the Dolphins are going to sign Matt Flynn as well.

So that is the story. What iked me was the explanation of why the Cardinals would not get a chance at Manning. Pretty much, without being brutally honest, the reason for Manning not coming to AZ is our reputation of being a poor team more times than not, and not being willing to put together a stable roster of good player, or in other words "They suck, and they always will."

The truth hurts, and when I say truth, I am talking about the preception and reputation this organization STILL has around the league.

Hence why there is so much negativity, and vemon within our fan base, because we all know this franchise is still a LONG LONG LONG way to respectability. Those two years with Kurt Warner ? GONE. The respect that breif era gave this franchise left with the trading of Boldin, which lead to the retiring of Kurt Warner, and the loses of Dansby, Rolle, and Breaston.

There is no doubt that Manning would help this organization. Not only would there be a buzz, national attention, ticket sales through the roof. But, those players that are more concerned with getting a ring than money would be looking to play for AZ.

The biggest hurdle to jump, is the same hurdle that has always been there, that has cost the organization opportunities at players they want, players they want to keep, and prevents this organization from being looked at more than a bottom dwelling, cheap, and non-competitive organization. That would be the well-earned reputation the Cardinals have put together while the Bidwills have run the show.

Just frickin' stinks to root for a team whose reputation is "The Cardinals ? Well, they suck, and always will."

This is a prime example of the past of the Cardinals and the downward spiral it creates coming back to haunt them.

I give the organization credit that they are at least trying a little more these days, but without full scale changes in the organizations way of doing business things will not change.

So, while I never thought Manning would come to AZ (LOL, as I typed that I see I am just as bad as ESPN in what I assume about the Cardinals), it sucks to be reminder that the team I root for is still looked to be a "B-list" sports organization by the sports world, and at 5:30am in the morning no less.

:soapbox: :violin: :deadhorse:

End Rant.

So, now that I feel better typing that out, I say to Adam Schefter. DOUBLE DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUECE!

It only says that Adam Schefter and others refuse to do their homework and revise their opinions. Since the Cards have had new revenue streams through UoP Stadium they have consistently been in the upper echelons of player expenditure. The one exception being 2010, when many teams socked away money in anticipation of prolonged labour unrest. So, frankly, couldn't care less what the national media think, and can't understand why anyone would at 5:30 in the morning. ;)

If I try to look at the situation from Payton's perspective, Miami has one huge advantage-Florida has no state income tax. It's why Karlos Dansby could take a basically equivalent package from the Dolphins over the Cardinals. I realize Manning would play 8 games outside the state of Florida, but all else being equal, the tax situation plays a role IMO.

I don't buy that argument. Long-term history doesn’t matter because Manning only has a couple/few years left. Fitz would counter Schefter in any conversation with Manning and Warner's experience and our Super Bowl run is way fresher than anything Miami or Washington has done. Want to talk about a joke of a franchise in the last decade – look no further than the Skins. Miami doesn’t exactly set the history books on fire post Marino.
On another note, I love Warner but given his constant warnings of how hard it is to assimilate into a new organization like AZ, I wonder if he is concerned that his own star might dim out here in AZ if Manning came in and did well. I am not seeing Warner being a huge advocate for the Cards if Manning asked him.

I saw that on ESPN yesterday also. I still think we have a chance to sign him.

Fixing the Oline and convincing PM we will do that is another matter that may make him hesitate to come here.

Dude, you're from Jersey. Aren't you used to being disrespected all the time by now?

It was a low blow Ken. I wasn't prepared.

That early in the morning, the piss and vinegar hasn't even started flowing through my system. Plus I am feeling a little under the weather. Heck, I hadn't had the chance to flip off any drivers, the report literally came on about 5 minutes down the road.

I am ready now. I will do better next time, and just curse out the radio like I usually do. :D

1. Dome stadium.
2. Larry Fitzgerald
3. Recent playoff/superbowl experience
4. Top 10 defense in the last half of the year

Those are the top 4 reasons why Peyton will come to AZ if we try to sign him.

Hey I look at this way. We signed Emmitt Smith, Edgerin James and Kurt Warner. They all had reasonable to great success.

The 3 major positives we have going for us. Dome stadium, Larry Fitzgerald and the success of Kurt Warner. Manning will also get the keys to the offense in my opinion too.

It's one thing to be a reporter--even one with great access and a high profile like Schefter--and the actual free agent. Manning, if interested, is going to tour the facilities, meet with the coaches, hang out with the team leaders like Fitzgerald, look at housing options in greater Phoenix, and consider a lucrative financial offer if extended. And then make the best choice for his family, personally. Schefter's comment is dismissive--and possibly well-earned by decades of futility--but what he actually said just isn't that relevant. I'm not even ripping on him. I just know that there are actually a number of very positive factors in place in Arizona that were absolutely not there a few years ago.

I think it comes down to us and the Dolphins. Shanahan will not give Manning the keys to the car with the entire offense. Not gonna happen. The Jets can't afford him and they can't even afford their own stadium, and who in the world would want to live and play up in the cold when they could live and play in a warm climate and or a domed stadium. Manning has enough money to last his great grand childrens lives, so I don't think it will come down to the highest bidder. I think it will come down to who will let Peyton run the show on offense and what weapons he will have to work with.

Jets - Rex Ryan, no thank you.
Redskins - Heard today he has no interest in going to an NFCE Team to compete directly against his brother.
Dolphins - Do they have the right pieces around him?

Cardinals - Lot's of benefits, most limited cap room.

If it is about anything but money, we have to be in the conversation. If he wants guaranteed money, we're screwed. Lucky for us, I think he wants to make a decision quickly, so we will have an easy call on the Kolb contract.

You are correct. He was on NFL Network last night raving about how the Jets would be a perfect fit for PM. It was a little sickening for this Cardinal fan to hear. "Rex Ryan could run the defense, and Peyton could run the offense, yadda, yadda, yadda."

Wow that's even more blatant than I thought it would be. The Jets? Really Kurt. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. LT said it was the worst he had ever sen in that locker room. Do you really think the combination of that locker room discord, Rex Ryan's instability, and equally questionable line, the New York media and crappy weather is a great fit for a guy who wants absolute focus to try to rejuvenate his post injury career? No way!

Then again the Cards rep could be an enticement.

Manning has a pretty big ego. Why wouldn't he want to be the guy that finally brought success to a struggling franchise?

The Dolphins have a history of success. No way Manning supplants the undefeated Dolphin team for historical significance. He could however be the most legendary Cardinal to ever play the game if he won a championship here.

The other thing that nobody is discussing much is control. I think Manning is going to want to have SIGNIFICANT input into how the offense is run and personnel moves. IMO it will be a combination of money, recent success AND control that lands him.

Peyton plays golf with Whis.. You don't think they talk about football? I am sure he has a good understanding of somewhat we have to offer. He lives in Miami. So I am sure he has a somewhat understanding of what they could offer. To me on the outside albeit probably bias, I feel the Cards is the best situation for him. Sorry Kolb. I am sure he has been already doing research of both teams through all this hoopla. Film etc. I dont think it will be as drawn out as people think. Get er done Cards

It seems very few of the modern atheletes understand this.

As I have told teams before that I have played on or coached in various sports. There is a champion every year, but there is only one first team to do it.

We have a longtime GM (albeit not the best) and our coach has been here 5-6 years and won a conference title. We've had the same owners for 100 years. How are the Cards "not stable".

Miami has a fairly new owner (with celebrity partners), a first-year head coach and a GM on the hot seat after 3 straight losing seasons. On the field, the Dolphins haven't done jack since the mid 80's.

The Cardinals are the obvious choice over Miami. :D

IMO the stadium & everything else means nothing when it appears the ownership or GM isn't "all in" to being an long term winner. Alot of talent left this place after 2009 & other years, so IMO perception does matter. If Manning is healthy I hope we get him, but I'm also preparing for him not being in red.
