Larry Fitzgerald'd $10M 2nd day of '15 league year roster bonus is treated as signing bonus & prorated since it's fully GTD at signing.

Larry Fitzgerald's deal has '17 & '18 years at $16M each. These years void 5 days after the '16 league year Super Bowl.

Former agent Joel Corry, who writes for the National Football Post and CBSsports.com, released the details on the Larry Fitzgerald contract on Twitter this morning. The key parts: The Cardinals picked up $12.75 million in salary cap space for 2015. And the deal, while it’s technically through 2018, will automatically void the final two seasons (2017 and 2018, on paper right now as $16M salaries for each year). The voidable years are added to help with prorating the cap numbers.
That means Fitzgerald will be a free agent after the 2016 season. We may not be done with stories of the Cardinals, Fitzgerald and contract talks just yet. Fitzgerald won’t even have turned 34 yet by the time his new deal ends — and I don’t see him retiring at that point. Fitzgerald also got a no-trade clause in the deal, although he could waive that if he so chose.
Fitzgerald’s cap number, which had been $23.6M for 2015, dropped to $10.85M. His money is pretty straightforward. A fully guaranteed roster bonus of $10 million on the second day of the league year (March 11) plus a salary of $1 million in 2015, and a fully guaranteed $11M salary for 2016.

I still don't think it's a guarantee he retires here. Seems like the 2 year deal is best for both sides.

palmer is gone around the same time I am guessing so part of it may depend on who the QB will be.

appears to be a good deal all around.... Larry took a pay cut,...which many were sure he would not do.
Short term allows both sides to revisit the situation in a year or two... Larry likes no trade clauses....this gives him more control over his own future and allows him to see how his numbers will look with more time and healthy legs in this offense. Pretty straight forward and flexible deal all around. IMO $11 Mil a year guaranteed is maybe still a bit too high...but the term and voids make it a decent deal I think.

Gotta love the no trade clause as well, shows any doubters where he wants to be

I don't think you understand the meaning of a "no trade clause." It's not necessarily that Fitz wanted to make sure that he stayed here; it's giving him more control over where he might go if traded. He can always waive the clause to go somewhere.

That's what I was thinking, unless he told the cards he only wanted to play for 2 more years.
That's what I was thinking. LF isn't a dumb guy and has been fighting nagging injuries the last 2 years. I think he knows the Cards have about a 2 year window and then he wants to walk away healthy, and hopefully a champion. Obviously, things can change but I could easily see that being his plan.

Cris Carter has repeatedly said playing for one team his entire career is very important to Larry.

Overthecap has a $10.85 million cap hit this year and a $15.85 hit next season. Then it is $4.85 million in dead money the next two years.

The Cardinals are pushing off to tomorrow what they can't afford to pay today.

Would like to have seen them get out from under the dead money cap hit, but exigencies dictated this deal.

Yup, this same situation will happen in 2yrs or Fitz will move on or retire.
Palmer will be at the end of his extension too. So basically the Cards are going all in the next two seasons for a SB.

This really feels like he wants to be here but if in 2 years the team sort of resets, he probably wants a shot at a ring?
